What exactly is superbag???

It is a bag that can tell you its weight!

Page 4: SUPERBAG

problem identified

Students are carrying overloaded bags that give them shoulder aches and even stunt their growth in the long run because they do not know the weight of their bag.

Page 5: SUPERBAG

Target 对象Students, especially primary school students

Page 6: SUPERBAG

Current solutionsO SPI bag (bag with special shape to

prevent user from slouching) – very expensive so not all students can afford

O Pamphlets/flyers/videos/websites that give people tips on how to prevent shoulder and back aches – not effective

Consequences of carrying heavy bags

O “Heavy bags put kids off balance, causing them to have a posture that increases the likelihood of lower back pain” ---Dr. Wayne Yankus, American Academy of pediatrics

O Study conducted at Auburn University reported that carrying heavy bags may threaten the developing spine

O Of the children who participated in the study, over half suffered from muscle soreness and back pain, while others suffered from numbness and shoulder pain

Comments/suggestionsO I’ll be able to know if my bag is too heavy

so I won’t get shoulder aches! That’s cool!O I can prevent shoulder and back aches so

my spine will not get injured. However, users might just ignore the weight even if it’s too heavy. There should be an alarm or buzzer.

O It is a good idea, pretty practical, and cannot be found anywhere in the markets.

Design of Superbag

OOriginal: Just a platform connected to the weighing scale

OAfter modifications: platform connected to weighing scale with piece of material in front to prevent books from falling out of platform. Base of platform is also tilted inwards so the books will not fall forward, hence making the reading more accurate.

Bad Points of Superbag

OYou have to lift the bag up first then only can it weigh itself

OIt doesn’t have an alarm if it’s too heavy for you

OThe weighing scale might take a while to switch on sometimes
