Super Light WeightRoller (SLWR)
SLWR is designed to help protect lighterMine Resistant and Ambush Protected
(MRAP) vehicles from the effects of VictimOperated IEDs (VOIEDs) over the track widthof the vehicle.
Specification
SLWR is used to detonate and neutralise
mines and VOIEDs ahead of the host
vehicle. The system is generally used
where there is the possibility, rather than
the probability, of the presence of such
devices on an intended route.
SLWR is particularly suited to the lightest
weight MRAP vehicles.
SLWR is compact, robust and light weight
meaning that the vehicle does not need
to carry the excess payload of self-
weightrollers.
SLWR is comprised of two track width
roller gangs each comprising six rollers
each mounted on an individual swing arm
suspension system. Each roller gang is
free to castor and is mounted on the end
of a transverse crossbeam and longitudinal
linkage arrangement that allows the
roller wheels to articulate over undulating
terrain. The wheel tyres are puncture proof
being made from a special wear resistant
semi-compliant polyurethane compound.
A steering system can articulate SLWR
right and left protecting the vehicle when
negotiating corners. Furthermore, a
manually operated variable roller width and
variableroller extender systems can vary
the width and distance of the roller wheels
relative to the vehicle.
Key features
Light weight
Minimal effect on vehicle mobility
and manoeuvrability
Roller wheels follow ground contours
providing constant ground contact
Puncture proof tyres
Rapidlyrepairable
A robust and compact system which
requires little maintenance

Operation and control Modular
SLWR is attached to a light weight MRAP
vehicle by a simple interface bracket that
enables rapid connection to the vehicle.
No modifications are required.

To cover the ground where the vehicle willrun, the whole frame of the roller can behydraulically moved left or right as thevehicle turns.
The degree of movement is controlled by
inputs from the driver. The steering system is hydraulicallycontrolled.
Hydraulic power is provided by an in-builtelectrohydraulic power system.SWLR is controlled from a Roller ControlUnit (RCU) mounted within easy reach ofthe vehicle driver.
