INTRODUCTION

Project Context

This study is about a Local Area Network (LAN) Based examination that

tries to eliminate the use of manual processing into a computerized system by

developing a System. Major Examinations in universities are taken in different

ways. Some are matching type or the OMR, and some are on test booklets. This

non unified procedure of examinations creates conflicts in keeping records of the

students. On a student¶s point of view, keeping their own records and exams are

not quite an easy task.

It has been found that the study helped lessen the work of the instructors

especially on checking the answers and having the scores tallied. This will

handle all of the major examinations in our university as it follows the

examination week. This will follow the OMR procedure of examination. The

system will be having a reliable database that will store and keep records for

references.

The system has sets of questions that will be input by the professor. This

will generate on the system and will be displayed randomly. The examinations

are on the forms for easier navigation. This system will generate reports for the

professor and for the student.

The proponents used VISUAL BASIC. NET as their language and MS

 ACCESS as their Backend.

Purpose and Description

The proposed system makes the existing system paperless and can save

time as well. It is appropriate for multiple choice type questions and sets of

examinations. It will cover all major examinations from prelims up to finals. The

user of the system can acquire the results of the examination immediately after

the student finishes answering the examination. User will just submit his answers

simply clicking on the submit button. The administrator can add users account

such as the professors and students. The administrator manages also the

database where the data or information of the users stored. The professor has an

authorization to manage and update their respective subject examination. The

users can able to print the examination result as report.

Objectives of the Study

General

The program aims to improve the existing system of major examination in

LPU, instead of having written exam, students will take their exam through

computers. Also helps the faculties to record the examination results. This may

also help to eliminate the use of papers for major examination.

Page 3: Super Final Printout

Specific

y The program can give the examination result directed to professors

y The program gives random questions

y The program will generate reports for the professor

y The administrator can create faculty and student accounts

y On the reports, the system can show the corrections for questions

Scope and Limitations

The capability of our proposed system has random sets of examination; it

can compute the result of the exam, and has the function to show and print the

whole report of the results in examination, it has a separated account for the

admin and the students for the security of our system. For the admin and

professor account, The student can only access their examination page once; it

will be having a function that can edit, add and delete some of the question that

has been recorded to our proposed system.

However, the system is incapable of the following; the professor can`t

identify the sequence or the set of the exam that the student is currently taking

up. The professor will still generate his/her own examination question. The

system is not capable of password retrieval when a student or a professor forgot

their passwords. Only the administrator could retrieve/replace the passwords.

CHAPTER 2

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND SYSTEMS

Lan Based Examination software has been developed for various

platforms to provide flexibility and try to examinations. This has simplified the

preparation of examination and assessment of examination and assessment of

examinations result.

Constructing pencil and paper test is a professional skill. An instructor

needs to be familiar with the different types of test items and how to write them.

The development of lan based examination had simplified the preparation of

examination and assessment of learning achieve by the student. (³Online

Examination in Trigonometry with Analytic Geometry: An Assessment ́ by Arlene

Abracosa Paradero, October 2007) This statement shows and proves the

importance and usability of a lan based examination. Decreasing time

management and avoiding confusion in assessing grades and results. 3:30pm

September 5, 2011

According to Jhon Ferdinant Ramos (March 2005), Checking of papers

are to made easy with the aid of Computerized System Software. This Software

was equips with an examination for the professional and non-professional driving

license. It automatically checks the examination question which limits the

problems encountered by the examiners. (³Computerized Examination in Land

Transportation Office for Driver¶s License Application´) 3:40pm September 5,

2011

(³Centralized Comprehensive examination for Engineering Students´) was

conducted to automated examination in the form of software. The centralized

comprehensive examination is capable of presenting reports and student¶s score

in comprehensive examination easier and faster. Through this method, burdens

of the coordinators will be lessen because the computer does the automatic

checking. A database was created to prevent loss of records. The Automated

examination made the manual type of examination more organized and secured.

et.al, 2004) pp.16-24 3:55pm September 5, 2011

Based on Online Test Conducting System, the purpose of on-line test

simulator is to take online test in an efficient manner and no time wasting for

checking the paper. The main objective of on-line test simulator is to efficiently

evaluate the candidate thoroughly through a fully automated system that not only

saves lot of time but also gives fast results. For student they give papers

according to their convenience and the time and there is no need of using extra

thing like paper, pen etc. Source: http://www.iijaipur.org/iiim-curent-08/MCA IV

Our examination system for basic computer operating skills has the

following characteristics: The question types include not only objective question,

Page 6: Super Final Printout

8/2/2019 Super Final Printout

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/super-final-printout 6/41

but also operation question as Windows, Ms Word, Ms Excel, Internet skills, etc.

The goal of the learning and testing system is to train the practical skills. As a

result, Operating And testing in the actual environment of the client machine is

the best learning method. It is urgent to develop an automatic grading system

which can grade the operating question as well as the objective ones. However,

the previous Web-based learning and testing system cannot support such

functions. We have developed a novel online examination system based on a

Browser/Server framework using state-of-art computer technologies, which

carries out the examination for basic computer operating skills including objective

tests, Visual Basic Programming, Microsoft Windows operating, Word, Excel and

Power point editing, Internet and Email Skills, etc It has also implemented

automatic grading online.(Zhenming, et.al) 4:25pm September, 5, 2011

Technical Background

Operational Definition of Terms

ADMINISTRATOR ± a type of user who can fully access the system

FACULTY- is a division within a university comprising one subject area, or a

number of related subject areas referring to academic staff

LAN BASED- ³LAN´ Stands for Local Area Network. A kind of network within a

small group.

LOGIN-  process by which individual access to a computer system is controlled

by identifying and the user referring to credentials presented by the user.

PASSWORD- is a secret word or string of characters that is used

for authentication, to prove identity or gain access to a resource

REGISTRATION ± a process for registering in the system. Upon succeeding in

registration, one will have an account to log in and navigate the system.

REPORTS ± a generated output of the system
