THE VILLA

Experience the Sunstone Estate with a stay at the luxurious

Sunstone Villa. Once a private residence, The Villa is now

proud to share its unique architecture and artifacts with

guests. Staying at the Villa offers you the opportunity to

see and touch a piece of history.

Surrounded by sweeping views overlooking the Santa

Ynez Mountains and the winery’s 55-acre estate, the Villa

at Sunstone is an old world architectural masterpiece. Built

from imported limestone from a small village in France,

and wood beams and roof tiles reclaimed from a 19th

century lavender factory, once owned by Queen Victoria,

the Tuscan-inspired Villa boasts 8,500 square feet of luxury

living space.

Completed in 2004, the Villa was constructed entirely

from artifacts and materials recovered from buildings

and rural villages carefully selected by Sunstone founders

Fred and Linda Rice while on numerous trips to quarries

and reclamation yards. The Villa has five master suites

each replete with its own private bath, fine linens and

bedding. It also includes eight fireplaces, Billiards room and

numerous terraces and patios with views of the mountains

and vineyard. The Villa’s Center Courtyard with fireplace

is the ideal setting to enjoy a glass of Sunstone Winey and

embrace the wine country lifestyle.

The Villa is ideal for family and friend getaways. You have

the option of renting the entire Villa or a single suite.

Private chef and personal concierge are available upon

request. Located in the heart of the Santa Ynez Valley, the

Villa is surrounded by world class recreation, fine dining

and renowned vineyards and wineries.

RETREAT

The best getaways are spent with family and friends

relaxing in wine country. The Villa at Sunstone sleeps ten in

five master suites complete with private baths, fine linens, a

full kitchen, eight fireplaces, and gorgeous courtyards with

sweeping views of the mountains and vineyards. In addition

to a private tasting and twenty percent discount at the

winery, you will find a complimentary bottle of Sunstone in

each suite. While you may become inspired to cook at the

Villa, our private chef is available upon request.

2012 GRAND RESERVE

TASTING NOTES: At the core, the 2012 Grand Reserve delivers concentrated fruit aromatics of dark plum, dried cranberries and cassis, fused inextricably together with petrichor, wet/hot stones, dried herbs, sweet tobacco and smoky oak. Dark cherry compote and raspberry coulis flavors are accented by French oak and crème brûlée, and finishes with black tea, bitter-sweet cocoa, and anise. Powerful, complex and balanced, this wine has a superb mouth feel of medium tannin and acidity.

CRAFTED: The 2012 Grand Reserve is produced from certified organically farmed grapes grown on our 20-year old Estate vineyard. Farmed to California Certified Organic Farmer specifications, Sunstone Estate produces ultra-premium quality wines with distinct varietal character, thanks to the site’s unique terroir. During harvest the grapes were sorted, gently de-stemmed and pumped into open top fermentation bins. After cold soaking for two days, the grapes were inoculated with BDX yeast and allowed to ferment for 11-days on the skins to extract maximum color and flavor. Following fermentation, the wines were racked to 100% new French oak barrels. After barrel aging for 21-months, the separate lots were blended to to taste and racked back to just two new French oak barrels in September of 2014. The wine was bottled on November 20, 2014 to 46 cases 12/750mL.

CELLAR: With proper cellaring the 2012 Grand Reserve should be opened from 2015 through 2018 for those who appreciate youthful, fruit-forward wines, or from 2018-2020 for a more aged wine with a softer palate.

2013 Sauvignon Blanc $35 | 24.50 Spring esters of citrus blossoms, lemon zest and sourgrass evolve into Summery incantations of tropical honeydew and ripe cantaloupe, finished by decorative Fall-like accents of jasmine, orange honey, glycerine, cinnamon, and nearly ripe apricots.

2013 Chardonnay $32 | 22.40Citrus blossoms, mangos, Gala apples, ripe pears, fresh violet petals, pineapple and nectarine aromas and flavors are graced by orange honey, butterscotch, toasted almonds and French oak. This Chardonnay’s sumptuously buttery palate is complimented by vibrant acidity that accentuates the finish.

2013 Grenache Rosé $28 | 19.60 Watermelon, fresh strawberries and floral-honey aromas leap from the glass. Similar flavors of bright strawberries, as well as a slight dried herb and cinnamon component that adds nuance and interest.

2011 Merlot, Santa Ynez Valley $26 | 18.20A serious Merlot that is rich in color with upfront notes of black cherry and plum. The vibrant dark fruit gives way to notes of cedar, spice & vanilla with a long smooth finish. The tannins are well integrated into this wine giving it structure and longevity allowing for instant gratification and ageability.

2012 Milestone $38 | 26.60Aromas of blackberries, black figs, baked plums and hints of cherries, anise seed, and ground mace. Flavorful blackberries, roasted coffee bean, pomegranate, toasted almonds, tart cherry, dark chocolate and light pepper grace the palate along with medium tannin and nice acid to balance.

2011 Merlot Reserve $50 | 35.00A spicy and floral array of complex aromas from crushed red peppers, rose petals, thyme, black tea, dill and white pepper elongate into dried cranberries, dark cherries, dark plum, blackberries, and orange rind, followed by caramel, subtle smoked cedar and wet-hot stones.
