Meet them by taking adrive through the pretty villages of Maleny, Montville andMapleton. Visit galleries, purchase locally made arts andcrafts, or do the food and wine trail to experience thegourmet delights of the region.

Coral CoastBundaberg might be famous for its rum, but it’s alsogaining notoriety for something else: Bargara and its hard-shelled inhabitants. The seaside town of Bargara lies justeast of Bundaberg and boasts a lovely foreshore lined withwalkways and cafés. The nearby star attraction is the MonRepos Turtle Rookery, where endangered sea turtles nestand hatch from November to March. Further north 120kmis Agnes Water, and its neighbour, Town of 1770,Queensland’s northern most surf beach. Day tours to theGreat Barrier Reef leave from 1770.

Whale watching is becoming one of the world’s greatnatural experiences, and nowhere is it as enthralling asin the calm waters of Hervey Bay.

Every year thousands of humpback whales travel fromAntarctica along the east coast of Australia to givebirth in the warm waters of North Queensland. On theirreturn migration they stop to rest and play and nurturetheir calves in the safe, calm waters of Hervey Bay inthe protected lee of Fraser Island.

It is an amazing experience to watch whales leap outof the ocean and splash their powerful tails.
