Criteria for meeting AYP:

1. AYP performance requirements are met if the percent Met Standard for all students and each student group summed across grades 3-8 and 10 in reading/language arts and mathematics meets or exceeds AYP standard.

• The AYP standards for 2007-2008 are 60% for reading/ELA and 50% for Math

• The AYP standards gradually increase.

• By 2013-2014, the standards are 100 percent for both reading/language arts and mathematics.

2. AYP participation requires 95 percent of all students and each student group to be tested to meet participation requirements, calculated separately for reading & math.

3. Other AYP requirements must be met for all students: 70% graduation rates for high schools and 90% attendance rates for middle and elementary schools.

Grade 8 Summary: Our subgroups were up in Reading and Math. We also jumped a little in Social Studies and we are above state average on Science. We need to continue working on improving the skills that students need for these subjects.

Grade 9 Summary: Overall reading scores are up 10% and above state scores. All reading subgroups are up with very positive gains for Hispanic and Econ. Disad. groups. Math scores were down 2% overall with the White subgroups significantly down by 14%. Math scores are still not at the 80 & 90 percentage levels yet in all subgroups and overall, which is the aim for each testing period.

Grade 10 Summary: ELA and Soc. St. continue to be a strength. All groups were up or the same in both of these core areas. Science and Math core areas both had drops in the Hispanic group and Science also had a drop in the Econ. Disadv. subgroup. These were small drops in these two subgroups, but they were still drops and not gains. All of the scores at the 10th grade need to be raised to the 80 and 90 percentage levels, but the overall scores in the four core areas had increases from 2007 to 2008.

Grade 11 Summary: ELA was down overall, but all subgroups saw increases or stayed the same. Social Studies saw gains overall and in all subgroups. Both of these core areas have all groups in the 80 and 90 percentage levels. The Science area was up overall, and Math remained the same overall. Math had drops in the Hispanic and Econ. Disadv. groups, but the math scores were all at the 80% or above level. Our Hispanic and Econ. Disadv. groups continue to be lower than the other subgroups. Science scores, which have been a concern continue to have gains each year at the exit level.

Need to get the decreases to be increases. We want to stay above the 95% level and we are only 1.4% above in the overall attendance rate for SHS.
