The Church Is Not By Andrew Connally

The church is not made up of people who believe they

    are better than others...

...but rather of those who believe they ought to

be better than they are. The church is not made up of perfect people...

...but of people who follow a perfect Lord and

realize they ought to do the best they can. The church is not made up of people who never make

    mistakes...

...but of those who acknowledge their mistakes

and try not to make the same ones again. The church is not trying to withdraw from everyone...

...but rather to bring everyone into its fellowship

    and love.

The church is not trying to set up arbitrary rules to hinder

    anyone...

...but to show how following the rule of Christ

helps us all. The church is not trying to take the joy out of life...

...but to put real joy into life. The church is not trying to make you feel ugly...

...but trying to instill the beauty of holiness in

your life. The church is not trying to separate you from your

    money...

...but trying to keep your money from separating

    you from God. Via BulletinGold

From Matt . . . We’re still discussing what the spiritual DNA at Eastside should look like. We desire, as God’s children, to imitate our Father by imitating our “elder brother,” Jesus. The pages of the NT tell us how Jesus lived,

and the lives of His earliest followers demonstrate how they implemented His teaching in the ebb and flow of daily

existence. When reviewed and summarized, we see these practices reducing to five categories of action, which we

    are calling WRP+4.

This week, we’re talking about how God’s people are a Serving people. Jesus served. His earliest followers served. It

is unquestionable that Christians are called to serve. However, what is the context of Christian service? Where did

Jesus place the emphasis on serving? Where did his earliest followers focus their serving efforts? To be the church

that God calls us to be, we must be a Serving church, but we must serve with the emphasis and within the contexts

that God has wisely prescribed. Follow along this morning as we discuss what this looked like for the early church

and what this can look like at Eastside.
