    Wedding Anniversary

A Message from Deacon Rick . . . . A comment was made to me recently that our weekend Masses could use some perking up with flowers. If anyone would like to donate to a “Flower fund”, so we can beautify the altar on the weekends and move the flowers over to the chapel for daily Mass. These flowers bring to Mass the beauty of His creation. Just place a plain envelope marked “Flowers” with an offering in the collection basket. On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, we have the opportunity of hosting the National Chess Champion of Indonesia here for up to a 40 person challenge in the convent dining room. If there are chess clubs or individuals that would like to give it a try, contact Lucy at 716-715-8989, for more information. From our Gospel reading this weekend, we hear Jesus ask, “Who do you say that I am?” Mk 8:28. If we were to be asked, what the meaning of life is, we would get many answers. If you were to ask me, I would answer that, ‘Life is a test.’ Just as Jesus was testing his disciples with this question, we too get tested to answer that same question. Some days we will have to answer that question many times by our actions. We could answer what we have heard about him as an historical figure, nothing personnel – or we could relate what we know of him by our relationship with him. The latter is what we are called to do – to have a relationship with him; to know how he would respond to the many choices we make daily – to eventually become another Christ. To become this can take a lifetime, because it takes a lot of effort to overcome our short comings of pride, ego, self-centeredness and all our other weaknesses. The good news is that if you are reading this, the test is still going on, and we are judged by how we finish – the person we have become - not how we started. Peace +, Deacon Rick

Faith Moment Reflection Christians are called to be disciples of Jesus, faithfully living His Word in their daily lives. The readings today remind us that discipleship is not always easy. Isaiah describes being beaten, insulted and spit upon because of his devotion to God. But rather than compromise his faith, Isaiah "set his face like flint" against those who opposed him and remained firmly committed to God's Word. Hopefully, our faith today will not draw such severe hostility and abuse. But when we do face ridicule or discrimination, God is always near to help us stand strong. Our commitment to discipleship may require us to "set our face like flint" from time to time. However, the reward for doing so is the ultimate triumph of God's love. Remember what Isaiah tells us: "The Lord God is my help; who will prove me wrong?" Today's Faith Moment was provided by Christ the King Seminary. You can listen to Faith Moments on WLOF 101.7 FM, WBEN radio 930 AM, or at www.faithmomentsonline.org.

Twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time – September 13, 2015 In today’s Gospel Jesus clearly reveals himself to be “The Christ” who will suffer and die to accomplish the work of salvation He was given by the Father to do. He can ask us to follow Him on this path because he has already shown us the way to new life is through death. If you feel God may be calling you to a Religious Vocation in His Church, call Father Walter Szczesny ~ 716-847-5535.
