Music has no boundar-ies and knows no limits. The language of music is universal and is easily under-
stood in every country of the world. Whether it is Mexican, Eurporean, classical music of Pakistan or it is the beat Japanese all the different kinds of music have the same element of rhythm and harmony. Like elsewhere in the world the World Music Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and fervour in Pakistan. As always Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop organised a

World Music Daycelebrations concert at the Rafi Peer Cultural Centre on Raiwind Road on outskirts of the city of Lahore.
The jazz concert was organised in collaboration with Alliance Fran-çaise de Lahore and Goethe institute Annemarie-schimmel Haus. Pakistani and French artistes came together to celebrate the World Music Day. Two events were held in connection with the celebrations. A German jazz group Mehmet Ergin performed in one event where as a French group Caravan Quartet along with Balochi singer Ustad Mumtaz Ali Sabzal performed
at the second event. A large number of music lovers from across the city and nearby suburbs attended the event. Some foreign nationals were also pres-ent at the concert.
The event’s entry was free and be-gan early in the evening and continued till late at night. The audience was a mixed crowd with some leading people from different walks of life and a large number of young people. The music was mesmerising and left the audience spell bound. The music displayed an enchanting fusion of borders and cul-tures that enthralled the audience like
never before. The form of music from different countries was so different in ideologies, but when it came together it created an experience and an ambi-ence that could never be forgotten.
Tasneem Peerzada told that ‘The music of these artists hold some mystical importance’. Mehmet Ergin, before every performance told the audience of the story on which the song was based. They revolved around his personal experiences and what had inspired him to write that particular song. The event which was held on 26th June was also attended by large

number of music enthusiasts. The audi-ence was hooked as soon as the musical performances started and yearned for more. The organizers of the event were completely taken aback by such a positive response.
The Balochi singer, Ustad Mumtaz Ali Sabzal used an instrument known as a Ba-lochi banjo. The instrument was invented by his grandfather and his teacher, Ustad Khaliq Daad in the 20th century. This was the first time that this folk instrument was used in formal classical music. He played ancient enigmatic tunes which earned him hordes of appreciation. With these very tunes he has left a mark on the Pakistani Music and also won hearts internation-ally. Other people who accompanied him were Umer Sarozi, Mujahid Baloch and Fida Umer. Umer Sarozi is the top balochi artist who used an instrument known as Surinda.
Talking about the fusion of two dif-ferent types of music forms they said,
“It was simply wonderful to play those patterns and our.” Events organised in a far reaching international spectrum widen the horizons of culture integration. They promote and focus on Pakistani culture and help people from other countries appreciate our heritage. The CEO of Rafi Peer, Saadan Peerzada, said that it is important to promote such events to revive the importance of our own culture nationally and internationally.
The second performance was of the French group, Caravan Quartet. The Quartet comprised of Samuel Strouk, Mathias Levy, Oliver Loranf and Danial Bouillard. They are inspired by the music of Django Reinhardh, considered as one of the world’s best jazz guitarist. The Quartet compositions also show influence of hip-hop, techno, rap and other modern music. Commenting on the fusion of such different forms of music, they said “It was simply wonderful to play those patterns and our.”
The balochi singer, usTad mumTaz ali sabzal used an insTrumenT known as a balochi banjo. The insTrumenT was invenTed by his grandFaTher and his Teacher, usTad khaliq daad in The 20Th cenTury. This was The FirsT Time ThaT This Folk insTrumenT was used in Formal classical music.
