The St. Joseph community extends its prayers and hopes for the following intentions:
Let us walk closer to the Lord and trust in His wis-dom and grace in every situation. May we take time to pray for peace in our world, in our families and
in our hearts.
For those whom we have been asked to pray: Jim, Joel, John, Julia, Larry, Margaret, Mike, and Steve.
Mass ChangesThe weekend in-person Masses will now be capped at 75 peo-ple instead of the previous 50 people. Additionally, there will no longer be a Monday 7 am livestream Mass, we will continue to livestream Tuesday - Friday daily Mass on our YouTube channel.
Important ReminderRemember: make sure you social distance when you are inside
the church. At least six feet apart!
Say Their Names: Victims of Seattle Police, 2010-2020At the invitation of Immaculate Conception Parish, in solidarity with Seattle’s Black community, we remember the people who have died at the hands of the Seattle Police Department over the last ten years. Each one was a son or daughter, and many were fathers and mothers. Each was a child of God, beloved by the Creator.
Use this opportunity to meditate on ways that you can contribute to a more just and peaceful society. Talk to your family about racism in America, and pray for the families of the victims. Not only must we remember them, but also realize that Seattle is no different than other American cities where Black folks, Indigenous folks, and People of Color, often unarmed, are killed by police. Say their names.

Invitation to Join in Solidarity with Victims of Police ViolenceSt. Joe’s is planning a public display of solidarity for victims of police violence. On the first weekend in Novem-ber, commemorating the Feast of All Souls, we will be placing thirty signs on the northeast lawn, each containing the name of a person killed by the Seattle Police Department.
Before the installation, we invite families to take a sign home with them and decorate the border of the signs with tasteful art and phrases of hope, healing, and solidarity. You can pick up the signs in the Vestibule during the times listed below, and drop them off in the Hospitality Room any time the church is open before Oct 26th. For more information or to arrange for a different pick-up or drop-off time, contact Deacon Steve at [email protected] or Mark Petterson at [email protected]
Pick-up times: Tuesday, Oct. 13, 12-1pm, Thursday, Oct 15, 12-1pm, Sunday, Oct. 18, 12-1pm, & Tuesday, Oct. 20, 12-1pm.
Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Gloria
Entrance Song
1.We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.
2. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.
3. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.
A Place Called Home FINLANDIA/Joncas
Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to people of good will.
Gospel Acclamation
Psalm 96: Give the Lord Glory and HonorPsalm
First Reading Isaiah 45:1, 4-6
Guimont
Thus says the LORD to his anointed, Cyrus, whose right hand I grasp, subduing nations before him, and making kings run in his service, opening doors before him and leaving the gates unbarred: For the sake of Jacob, my servant, of Israel, my chosen one, I have called you by your name, giving you a title, though you knew me not. I am the LORD and there is no other, there is no God besides me. It is I who arm you, though you know me not, so that toward the rising and the setting of the sun people may know that there is none besides me. I am the LORD, there is no other.
O sing a new song to the LORD; sing to the LORD, all the earth. Tell among the nations his glory, and his wonders among all the peoples.
For the LORD is great and highly to be praised, to be feared above all gods. For the gods of the nations are naught. It was the LORD who made the heavens.
Give the LORD, you families of peoples, give the LORD glory and power; give the LORD the glory of his name. Bring an offering and enter his courts.
Worship the LORD in holy splendor. O tremble before him, all the earth. Say to the nations, “The LORD is king.” He will judge the peoples in fairness.
Second Reading 1 Thessalonians 1:1-5bPaul, Silvanus, and Timothy to the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: grace to you and peace. We give thanks to God always for all of you, remembering you in our prayers, unceasingly calling to mind your work of faith and labor of love and endurance in hope of our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father, knowing, brothers and sisters loved by God, how you were chosen. For our gospel did not come to you in word alone, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with much conviction.
“Shine like lights in the world as you hold on to the word of life. “
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us (men) and for our salvation he came down from heaven, All bow. and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. All stand upright.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Matthew 22:15-21GospelThe Pharisees went off and plotted how they might entrap Jesus in speech. They sent their disciples to him, with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. And you are not concerned with anyone’s opinion, for you do not regard a person’s status. Tell us, then, what is your opinion: Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not?” Knowing their malice, Jesus said, “Why are you testing me, you hypocrites? Show me the coin that pays the census tax.” Then they handed him the Roman coin. He said to them, “Whose image is this and whose inscription?” They replied, “Caesar’s.” At that he said to them, “Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.”

Young Adult Community Listening SessionYou’re invited to a Young Adult listening session, on Zoom, on October 21 from 7:30-8pm.
This might be the hardest time ever to get connected with other Young Adults as a new member of the commu-nity. We’d like to change that. The goal of this session is simple - we want to find out what’s working at St. Joe’s, what’s not, and how we can help.
We want to help you stay connected as we grow in our faith together and do our part to stop the spread of CO-VID. For example, we are looking into how we can safely and responsibly gather in small groups at the church.
We know many of you spend endless hours in front of a screen because of your work. But this Zoom call will have a direct, immediate impact on St. Joe’s plans for the Young Adult group. We really hope you will join us for this.
For the Zoom link, or to contribute thoughts and questions for a post-session survey, email Deacon Steve at [email protected] or [email protected]
Young Adult Bible Study Thursdays, starting October 29th, 6:30pm-8:00pm - Virtual via Zoom (email us for the link!)
Join us every Thursday from October 29th through November 19th as we read through The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis! This is a great opportunity to dive deeper into your faith through thought-provoking and encouraging discussions. Contact [email protected] for more information.
Art & Environment CommitteeThe Beauty of the Liturgy Reflected in the
Beauty of the Church
St. Joe’s is forming an “Art and Environment Team” that will have the opportunity to enhance and vivify our ex-perience of the liturgy through seasonal planning and decorating of the church. Participation of team members revolves around the liturgical calendar, gathering in an ongoing way as each new liturgical season approaches and may include one-time projects reflecting your per-sonal talents.
For more information and to offer your gifts as a member of this team please contact Director of Music and Lit-urgy Bob McCaffery-Lent at 206.965-1649 or [email protected] or Matthew Pyrc S.J. at [email protected]

1st Friday Online Healing Prayer Service

In keeping with our tradition of gathering every 1st Fri-day for our Healing Mass, we invite you to join us for an online Healing Prayer service led by Sr. Mary An-nette Dworshak, Deacon Steve Wodzanowski, and Bob McCaffery-Lent.
This is open to anyone who wants to join with others to pray for healing, individually and collectively. If you want to participate, contact Deacon Steve and he will send you the Zoom link or instructions to call in: [email protected] or 206-965-1646.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word – worship.pastoral.center
This is an independent online service created with Catholic families in mind. It’s a bit more interactive than watching a Mass. There’s an opening and closing song with motions that the kids can sing/dance along to, the gospel reading (a kids version or the NAB translation,) a brief cartoon or video about the gospel aimed for young kids, reflection questions for the family to discuss together, and a time for intercessions, etc. Families that use it can follow all the elements, or pick and choose those parts that work best for their family and the ages of their kids. The services are offered for free and are posted a few days before each Sunday.

Financial UpdateMonthly Budget: As you can see, beginning in September, we are starting to track under budget for ordinary in-come. Some of the offering usually collected at Mass is being made up by higher monthly online donations, but we are still short for each week. If you have not yet signed to up give monthly, please consider doing so. We will keep coming up with creative ways to reach out, as we continue to support each other during these challenging times.
ACA & Called to Serve: Thanks to all of you who donated, and thanks to the hard work of our new Assistant for Stewardship, Mary Wiseman, we reached our ACA Goal.
Up next in our bumpy 2020 road is the Called to Serve as Christ campaign. Everyone should have received their packet in the mail. This is an important campaign and we will be able to see some capital improvements on campus as part of our 15% parish kickback. In order to complete the campaign, we need 30% participation. We are asking that even if you are unable to give at this time, please mark your card with a prayer and send it in.
Thanks - Marti McGuaghey, PAA
Thank you for your Support of the Called to Serve as
