SCRIPTUREJames 5:1-12 ... Lisa BriseboisCome now, you rich people, weep and wail for the miseries that are coming to you. Your riches have rotted, and your clothes are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver have rusted, and their rust will be evidence against you, and it will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure for the last days. Listen! The wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. You have lived on the earth in luxury and in pleasure; you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the righteous one, who does not resist you. Be patient, therefore, beloved, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious crop from the earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains. You also must be patient. Strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near. Beloved, do not grumble against one another, so that you may not be judged. See, the Judge is standing at the doors! As an example of suffering and patience, beloved, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. Indeed we call blessed those who showed endurance. You have heard of the endurance of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful. Above all, my beloved, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “Yes” be yes and your “No” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.

SONG OF GATHERING (INSTRUMENTAL)(We invite the congregation to take a moment of reflection as the children leave for Sunday School.)“Blessed Be Your Name” Blessed Be Your Name In the land that is plentiful Where Your streams of abundance flow Blessed be Your nameBlessed Be Your name When I’m found in the desert place Though I walk through the wilderness Blessed Be Your nameEvery blessing You pour out I’ll turn back to praise When the darkness closes in, Lord Still I will sayChorus: Blessed be the name of the Lord Blessed be Your name Blessed be the name of the Lord Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be Your name When the sun’s shining down on me When the world’s ‘all as it should be’ Blessed be Your nameBlessed be Your name On the road marked with suffering Though there’s pain in the offering Blessed be Your nameEvery blessing You pour out I’ll turn back to praise When the darkness closes in, Lord Still I will say ChorusBridge You give and take away You give and take away My heart will choose to say Lord, blessed be Your name Chorus

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest, hosanna in the highest. (No. 942)

Minister: Wherefore, O God, we set forth before you this holy supper following his command who, the night in which he was betrayed, took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to his disciples saying, “Take, eat: this is my body.” Who in the same way took the cup saying, “This is my blood of the new covenant.”

All: Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive all power and wealth, wisdom and might, honour and glory and praise.

Minister: And now, Almighty God, we pray you to send your Holy Spirit, that the bread which we break may be to us communion in the body of Christ, and the cup of blessing which we bless, communion in the blood of Christ, that being built up in love we may be strengthened by the unity of the faith, and come to the fullness of the stature of Christ.

The Night Before ChristmasA traditional nativity pageant. December 24 @ 3:00 & 5:00 PM

For many years TEMC’s Christmas pageant has been a highlight of the Christmas season. More than 2,000 members of the congregation, their families and friends gather in the sanctuary to await the coming of the baby Jesus.More than 200 volunteers donate their time to make the pageant possible and many months of planning and work go into the two productions. As well as being a Christmas tradition for the members of our congregation, the pageant provides an opportunity to welcome many of our friends who may not be frequent visitors to the church at other times of the year. Patrons will be recognized and their names will appear in the pageant program unless you’ve advised us you wish to remain anonymous. Please make your cheque payable to “TEMC Christmas Pageant.” Receipts will be issued in February 2018. We thank you for your generous support. Please fill out Pageant Registration forms and turn them in to the Volunteer Office or Mallary Davenport’s mailbox in the Lawson library. You will find the forms at Connect Cafe, and in the Volunteer Office.
