We are back to the swing of things as the New Year commences. One would have thought the never-ending-parties would cease as pockets are being pulled tighter to accommodate the financial excesses of the just concluded festive period. But that doesn’t seem to be the case as events are still propping up though not quite in the same frenetic pace of two weeks past. Our cover personality, Chief Rasaq Okoya’s 80th recent birthday celebration was a full on high-octane

party to celebrate one of Nigeria’s most successful industrialists! Though eight decades old, he is still going strong as you will read

about in his latest interview. All the same, we still thank God that we are here to witness the new

decade. While at it, we have to prepare ourselves, mentally, financially, spiritually and physically to make this new decade a worthwhile venture. Learn from our failures, pursue our visions and goals harder, be more tolerant of other people’s excesses or bad behavior, be more forgiving, talk less and listen more as and when required, have better foresight and wisdom, strengthen our faith, fight off inner demons and fears, be more courageous and just generally try and be more impactful in the lives of those we know and meet in this journey called LIFE.

As you know, one thing that never fades regardless of year or time is Fashion. It is an every revolving cycle and there is always something new coming up! In this edition, we have many interesting topics that will catch your attention and hopefully you might learn a thing or two from them. Style Trends To Try, Style Tips, You Be The Judge amongst others should give you something to feed your eyes on!

It was a thrilling fashion and cultural fusion as renowned author and fashion icon Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, hosted friend and Christian Dior Creative Director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, in Lagos recently. Chiuri held a Masterclass for Nigerian designers and also took part in a very insightful conversation with Adichie, to the delight of guests. Ms Chiuri and Ms Adichie were also hosted at a cocktail reception by the French Network-represented by Ambassador of France to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr. Jérôme Pasquier, and Consul General of France in Lagos, Mrs Laurence Monmayrant – in collaboration with the Consul General of Italy in Lagos, Dr Maurizio Busanelli, at the Alliance Française/ Mike Adenuga Centre, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Chimamanda’s affinity for Nigerian fashion is no secret. She has taken on the role of ambassador for the Nigerian fashion industry and given brands more visibility and global recognition through her Wear Nigerian project.

Atafo, The Lady Maker, Lola Baej, Emmy Kasbit, Kiki Kamanu, FIA Factory, The Wuman Brand and Meena Official were invited to showcase their collections at the Wear Nigerian mini-fashion show, which took place during a formal gala evening branded: “An Evening with Maria Grazia Chuiri and Chimamanda Adichie in Lagos”.

Fashion trends come and go, but there are clothing staples that last from season to season. There are clothes you need to focus on having

rather than buying every trendy item that catches your interest. Investing in quality, must-have pieces for your wardrobe can actually save you time and money in the long run. Such items go with almost anything in your wardrobe and compliment with a piece you decide to splurge your cash on. Staples that match easily saves you preparation time in the morning when

deciding what to wear.

IF NOT ME THEN WHO?

She was exquisitely dressed as usual, carrying herself with the confidence of a woman who has faced many battles and was accustomed to winning. Her makeup was subtle and perfect applied on a skin that radiated with the freshness of one who knew she was beautiful and took care of herself. She was her best brand and had built an empire on the products she so easily displayed and in the process had inspired a whole generation of entrepreneurs in the art of beauty, proudly Nigerian and an advocate of the best that the nation had to offer.

As we sat briefly in the green room, one of many we had occupied together, set once more to inspire and share life experiences with a room full of young entrepreneurs hungry yet uncertain of what lay ahead of them, our conversation inevitably centered on our nation and the growing sense of despondency amongst the youths. The spontaneity with which the masses latched onto reports of xenophobia in South Africa to steal, rob and destroy was a sign of barely contained anger. Engulfed in the violence, her children barely escaped with their lives after the mob smashed windscreen and windows of their SUV. The acts of violence unleashed on any perceived wealthy citizen found in a luxury vehicle was the rude awakening that all was not well in paradise.

The Creator of all mankind had set out a world devoid of envy, greed, avarice, pride, selfishness and hatred until man was deceived into believing he wasn’t who he already was. That fall replaced one created to fulfill purpose with those who abuse purpose, ignorant of who they are. The disappointment in the heart of the masses at directionless leadership has endangered all who have found their purpose and walk daily in actualizing it. My friend looked me in the eye and said for the first time in her life, the concept of leaving the country with her entire family was a vivid reality. The unquenchable fire in her heart for building her nation dimmed in the light of the danger her children faced at the hands of fellow citizens who simply sought for good leaders and found none. My heart bled for if she could leave who would not.

Will no one arise to save us from ourselves?

Whether you’re a denim addict or a jean fanatic, denim is a source of joy

for all. From a festival staple, to a new season

basic to an old pair of jeans you can’t get rid of, this particular trend is one that never gets old. Take the traditional jean mix with a hint of unusual, add some pieces you wouldn’t expect

and you have yourself a whole new wardrobe. Mix,

match, and wear top to toe if you like, the rules are there to be broken. Get ready for the

denim revolution.

FLAREDThese jeans initially started getting popular as a 90s fashion statement, and are now back with a bang. While the boot cut jeans open up slowly below the knees, this style flares up.

BOOT CUTWhat was initially considered mommy jeans slowly became a hot favorite among women of all age groups. These come with a great fit till the knees and then subtly open out past your calf muscles, and they flare out a little above your shins.

BOYFRIEND JEANSPeople started calling these boyfriend jeans because they look like they were borrowed from him. From runways to airport looks, everyone is sporting these. These give you a great fit near your waist and hip area, and broadens a little bit as they move down. Boyfriend jeans or boyfriend crop jeans are both great choices for curvy women.

LOW RISELow rise jeans look great on women with a well-defined waist because they start a little below your belly button. This style blends well with skinny, straight and super skinny design patterns.

Billionaire Industrialist and founder of Eleganza Group of companies, Chief Rasaq Okoya needs little or no introduction as he is one of Nigeria’s foremost business men. He started and built his multi-billion Empire with just £20 investment back in the 70s and like they say, the rest is history. Today Okoya is known as the industrialist, whose quest for excellence has pushed the boundaries of entrepreneurial distinction and he continues to set standards not only as an industrialist, but also a real estate mogul and businessman with the Midas touch. As he turns 80, FUNKE BABS-KUFEJI speaks to some of Chief Okoya’s close family members and friends who give an insight into the enigma and business mogul’s life. They also speak about his entrepreneurial journey and the impact he has made in the lives of those he has touched one way or the other. The celebrant himself, Chief Rasaq Okoya, also speaks about turning 80 and his plans for the future.

RASAQ

OKOYA

You have been fortunate to live a very fulfilled life. As you turn 80, do you have any regrets?

I have a few regrets which include a few failed marriages in the past and every business decision I have made has either been unsuccessful or a learning experience. But overall, Allah has been very kind to me and I’m indeed gratefull.

With over 60 years in business what other plans do you have for the the next five years?

Production is my life. I enjoy manufacturing goods.

I have travelled to several countries and get inspiration from what I see in Europe. I believe in this great country Nigeria and I believe that with good policies, it will be greater than before. The Eleganza of today is stronger and more able than it ever was.

You built an empire from manufacturing different products, but took a break when the business and economy wasn’t very lucrative only to revive it once again. Why did you make this decision?

Eleganza had been under the storm in the recent past, trying to survive in the industrial sector - as a result of past mismanagement and planning. This led to my factory not running in full capacity which incurred lots of debts and liabilities.

As a result of this, l had to diversify into property investment on a large scale and concentrate on it to help keep everything afloat. But thankfully, we back now bigger and better, ready for what ever is thrown our way.

What lasting solutions do you think should be put in place to encourage more people to manufacture locally?

When I started, there were a lot of business opportunities in Nigeria. But now so many products have flooded the Nigerian market. The federal government should stop the importation of goods that can be produced locally. The government should improve on the power supply and promote more technical schools for training of our youths. Good roads will also help to boost any country economy.

Tell us a little more about the new Eleganza factory and the products you manufacture.

The new Eleganza Industrial City Limited is situated at km 68 Lekki Epe Expressway, on 30 hectares of land. We have a vast range of products which includes: chairs, coolers, luggages, diapers, ladies sanitary pads, beauty and multipurpose soaps, PET bottles plus caps, Pre-form bottles, shoes, hair threads, disposable/reusable plates and cups, waste disposal containers (dustbins) and stainless water tanks, just to mention a few.

ELEGANZA Biro is also coming to production again with modern improvements.

One would think by 80, most people will be slowing down in terms of work but you seem to still be very involved in the day to day running of the factory?

As I said earlier, I have a passion for what I do and seeing products or items overseas stirs a passion

in me to see the same or similar products produced in my country. I love to go to trade fairs all over the world and when I get ideas I put them into actualization.

I can’t be running the day-to-day activities as I don’t have the patience or time, but I am always on board to give necessary/useful advice and information when needed. My wife, Shade handles all the daily affairs.

Take us through your typical day? I have capable hands working in

my various organizations, and I feel fulfilled partnering with the Federal and State governments in providing employment to the team of youths in this country.

I love what I do and as a result, I don’t see myself working because when you enjoy your job it becomes a hobby.

What measures have you put in place to make sure your factory out lives you?

I have already taken a back seat. As of today, my wife Shade, is running the factory, she works 7am to 7 pm daily and honestly she is doing very well. I just give her support and advice if and when needed. The factory runs without me being there and the factory is already able to sustain itself such that Eleganza Industrial City will be a company for today, tomorrow and the future. I want my legacy, Eleganza groups to live on and it is my prayer that it lives on Insha Allah.

What life philosophy do you live by?Hard work, honesty, determination and most of

all, believing in the Almighty Allah’s blessing.

How will you describe your style? My wife would say I’m not a fashionable man but

I like to be comfortable in anything I wear. Comfort is key.

What advice will you give anyone who wants to go into manufacturing in Nigeria to make sure they are successful?

With my knowledge about production and life so far; passion with the drive takes priority in all endeavours. But to be successful and be able to maintain market leadership for years, you must be wise.

Study the market closely and know when to diversify or invest further when necessary. Manufacturing is a very tasking and energy consuming business so it is important that you have interest and passion in whatever you choose to put out there for the consumers. Make sure it is something you yourself can use.

With my knowledge about production and life so far;

passion with the drive takes priority in all endeavours. But to be successful and be able to maintain market leadership for years, you must be wise. @ 80!

What is the secret to your successful 20 year marriage with such a wide age gap?

God has been very good and kind to me .I am a loving, caring, loyal and understanding

wife. My marriage to my husband has been

kept this long because it was built on a solid foundation of love, truth and sincere understanding. I respect and cherish my husband very much. I have, over the years, adjusted to his ways, likewise mine to him.

What qualities of his make him stand out?I admire my husband, very much. His

tenacity and astute sense of business is one I greatly respect. I have learned a lot

through him and for that I’m grateful. But most importantly, through him, I have learnt

not to relent in my efforts to succeed in any of my endeavours and that if I fail, my mistakes are

learning opportunities to try again till I succeed. Above all, he is a very loving and supportive man who cares for all that I stand for. He is a teacher, advisor and much more. Till date, his humility amazes me.

You have worked closely with him running the Eleganza group of companies/factory, what are some key business traits you have mastered?

I have learnt a lot from his wealth of experience in manufacturing, investing, administrations and

life in general. He taught me the importance of hard work and to take nothing for granted. I see the passion he has for any project he embarks on and this has rubbed off on me too. I put my heart into all I do and just like him, failure isn’t an option when it comes to business. He also has taught me the importance of going into businesses that make you happy because once you do what you love, giving it your very best is a given.

Tell us something fascinating about himMy husband is a very shy person though he

likes to go out and have a good time. He is super active for his age that even I myself sometimes wonder where he gets all the energy from. He is a workaholic and over the years this has become a part of him.

What message for him as he turns 80?I wish my husband- ‘olowo ori mi’ only the very

best as he turns 80. I wish him Allah’s continuous blessings, a sound and happy mind that will make him enjoy all he has laboured for. And he will continue to see his children’s children in Allah’s name. Amen

What is your fondest memory of your father? There are so many, where do I even begin? I

suppose the memories that stand out would have to be of him as a younger man. Growing up there was great emphasis put on the importance of our education. As such, whenever I received good grades,

I have fond memories of his excitement – he usually wore a wide smile on his face from ear to ear. Looking back, this was always a great moment of connection between us and it brings back fond memories.

Being his first child, do you feel pressured by people, to take the mantle to the next level?

It will always be a hard task to fill the shoes of someone who has loomed as large as my father. Nonetheless, I believe the most important thing is that we are able to keep his dream of an industrialized Nigeria alive. Sustaining the brand that he has built so it will last several generations - by the special grace of God.

What do you most admire about your father?I have always said one of the most under-

appreciated traits my father has is his high level of integrity and honesty. He is usually celebrated as an industrialist, but beyond that, he has moral rectitude, which is not often appreciated to the same level as his business acumen.

Would you, some day, follow in his footsteps?Fruits, typically, do not fall too far from the tree,

as the adage goes. I learned all I know from my dad concerning the realm of manufacturing, and that is what I specialize in today. Basking in the art of creating a niche product and then producing it to scale in millions is a process he knew well, and made sure to pass on to me. So in effect, being that it is my forte, I learned from him so I suppose you could say I have already...followed in his footsteps.

What life lessons have you learnt being the son of of a man of his caliber?

“Don’t stretch your hands beyond your means”. My father often shared this nugget of wisdom with hopes of rooting me and my siblings in the idea of contentment. He believed one should be grateful for what they have, and for whatever the almighty God has provided. Thus, with your means do not be covetous, but instead work hard to improve your situation in life. That is one of the biggest moral

When did you meet Chief Okoya and what struck you about him?

We met over 60 years ago when we were both petty traders at Dosunmu street, the heartland of trading in

Lagos Island. What struck me about him was his outlook; we were both young, hardworking entrepreneurs, forward-looking by the grace of God to being successful in life. Our aim and aspiration to become blessed and accomplished people in life is what brought us together. This is how we became friends.

Your fondest memory shared with him?Nearly 50 years ago, as young up and coming

businessmen, we both travelled from Nigeria to England on the MV Aureol ship which took 12 days. It was the only time we were not able to be at work, so we had a lot of fun together. As it was the way prominent Nigerians travelled to the UK in those days, we met older, notable Nigerians like Chief Okunowo who was a wealthy damask trader. He talked to us about his life experiences and taught us about business. We learned and played which made it a very interesting trip.

As both notable businessmen, how has he impacted you in buisness and life in general?

We have encouraged each other in achieving our goals. We share the same ideology and ambitions on becoming industrialists and creating products that could compete with foreign goods, and leaving Nigeria better than we met it. His sense of industry and straightforwardness means that we are aligned in values.

What will you like to say to him as he turns the big 80?

I pray for him all I pray for myself at this stage which is all round blessings of longer life in good health, opportunity to correct our errors, and greater miracle achievements.

With over 40 years of friendship, how will you describe Chief Okoya and what will you say are his strongest traits?

Aare of Lagos’s (as I fondly call him) clear desire to see that his friends and those around him prospered is one of his strongest traits. He is indeed a very generous and accommodating fellow. I had no hesitation in taking time off work to join his family, other friends and world at large in celebrating with him because he is indeed not the kind of man you meet easily.

Is there one thing you know about Chief Okoya that many people do not know?

His remarkableness and extreme generosity plus volunteering spirit of giving. He is also a very

resourceful person who sees and makes economically viable opportunities from where a lot of people either see problems or disdains. A clear example is how he has always pioneered industrial cities around areas in Lagos where many never thought would blossom. From Lagos-Badagry expressway to Alausa to Ajahand more recently Ibeju-Lekki. I am very proud of him.

On his oak anniversary what will you like to tell him?

All I have to say are words of prayers and thanksgiving to God over his life. Thus, it is my prayer that God grants him long life in good health and sound mind to enable him play more fatherly roles to his children and family.

What fond childhood memories do you have of your brother?

We lost our father at a very early age and so the fatherly mantle was upon him. He assisted our mother in raising me. He was a disciplinarian and very strict. I remember the fact that he would usually hide an “omorogun” (wooden spoon) behind the chairs and use in beating my hand each time I erred or a third party made a complaint about me.

Which of your parents will you say had the most impact on him growing up?

Both parents made an impact on him whilst growing up. Our father, as it relates with trading (art

of buying/selling, business acumen) and our mother, who gave him the initial trading capital to add to his little savings to expand his importation business. Our mother also provided guidance, counsel and played a pivotal role in taking care of some of his children whilst he was away on business trips.

As he turns 80, what will you like to say to him? Alhamdulillah, Alhamudullah Rabbil Alamin. Happy

80th birthday Sir. By the special grace of Almighty Allah, there will be many more reasons to celebrate with you. Wishing you long life in good health and best of strength. It is also time to sit back, relax and enjoy the fruit of your labour. E pe fun wa Sir.What fond memories do you have growing up as

Chief Okoya’s sister?First of all; he is more of a father to me than a

brother because l was barely four years old when our father died in 1965. Since then, my brother has been taking care of all my needs in life. But his most pivotal impact on me is his love and hard work, which are still on going in the family.

Which parent will you say had the most impact on him growing up?

Both of them influenced him in different ways. My father influenced his business ideas and visions in establishing conglomerate ELEGANZA and the discipline that comes with it. With our mother, she was a very proud and disciplined woman. Don’t forget she never remarried having lost her husband at a young age; therefore my bother was like her husband and never gravitated him but was always frank with him. Moving from place to place together.

From Surulere to Ademola Street in Ikoyi then later Ikoyi Crescent before she passed on in 1997. She was the the pillar and Matriarch of the family.

What trait do you most admire about your brother?

I admire his exemplary vision and humility. He’s a man of brilliant ideas and vision. What he calls vacation is a business type. He never had time for anything except his business and proper attendance to his health.

If you were to describe him in one word what will it be?

One word isn’t enough to sum up the enigma that is my father and brother Chief Rasaq Okoya, but I will say he is Humble and Generous.

As he celebrates this major mile stone birth, what do you have to say to him?

I will like to say to him that health is wealth at this stage in his life. So it is important he rests, eat healthy and not worry or be bothered about anything. After all he has seen it all.

What memories do you have growing up in the okoya household?

My fondest memories with my dad has to be all of the times spent in the pool when we would swim laps and play pool games. My dad also likes to sing, when we are with him, he is constantly singing one song or another to my siblings and I.

How have you been able to handle the pressure of being expected to fill his shoes?

I do feel like people have high expectations of me but being his child, I’ve been taught to always do my best and set high expectations for myself based on my own goals and aspirations and on that, I do feel

I’m handling things very well.

What do you most admire about your dad?I most admire his work ethic because I would like

to have a similar one in future. I would love to follow in his footsteps because I share his passion and love for Eleganza Group and the dream he has for the company.

What life lessons have you learnt as his daughter ?I have learnt that it is important to be humble and

hardworking. With these two traits, doors will open for you.

TRENDSHOW AMINA MUADDI’S HEELS BECAME INSTAGRAM’S IT-SHOE

Though she only launched her brand in 2018, Amina Muaddi has garnered industry attention for her signature flared heels, so much so that this year, she’s earned the title of 2019 Designer of The Year at Footwear News’ Achievement Awards, a title previously held by Tabitha Simmons and Gianvito Rossi.

Her eponymous line spans a wide range of silhouettes, but perhaps the most recognizable is her signature flared heel, one that is slender at the top and widens at the bottom - a move that adds comfort, and is distinctive to her line.

Beyond the signature heel, Muaddi has created shoes ranging from flats to platforms in highlighter hues, fabricated in velvet, satin, and even glitter and featuring luxe materials like feathers and crystals. In many ways, they’re the ideal range of party shoes. While you may tend to get dressed with a clothes-first approach, generally leaving footwear as an afterthought, Muaddi’s footwear demands the spotlight.

When asked about the enduring popularity of her signature style Mauddi notes, “The collection is a body of work and includes many heel heights and flats too, but always with a feminine sensibility. I guess the heels attract more attention and are more noticeable as an object of desire.”

They usually say “All that glitters is not gold”, much as that rings true especially when it comes to jewelry, you cannot but admit that sometimes, the right amount of glitter makes a huge impact. In this case, we have women draped in sequinned

outits that would make your jaw drop! They have the figures to make these outfits sizzle. So it comes as no surprise that they are out hot favourites with their high-octane sex appeal!

This is the best I’ve seen Tacho look. I love that it is FIRE RED and suits her just right! The cape effect is also a great touch with just the right amount of leg is showing. Personally, the cleavage showing is a tad much for me, but the makeup and hair is perfect.. 7.5/10I like it when a dress drapes perfectly on you and that’s exactly how this dress sits on Tacha. Red has got to be her colour because she look nice wearing it. The dress looks risqué but is covered in all the right places. The only flaw is her shoes but it still works with the dress. 7/10 My number one fashion rule is to show one asset at a time. When it’s more than one, it becomes a little too sultry but nonetheless, this look works for her. Nice subtle makeup with hair pulled back tones down the look. 7/10

This is the sort of look that can upstage the celebrant. I love the green!! It is one of my favourite colours, especially this shade. But a simpler hairstyle would have complimented the dress much more. Red lippies, awesome. Loving the accessories as well, the clutch and shoes are a good touch. 7/10This is a LOOK! What more can we say than ‘She stepped out to serve it hot!’ This green sequence dress fits and suits her like a glove. The hair pulled up in a bun also helps put the focus on her look and the gold bag and shoe finishes off the look just beautifully. 9/10 She has the body to pull of this dress as it fits her like a glove. The gold shoes and bag is just right and her hair and makeup brings the look together. Very nice. 9/10

Queen B always brings it. I really love her style!! Everything about this look is fire. Her sandals beautifully compliments the dress. She’s a pro! Bonang is one of the best. Her legs look so good. Her make-up is on point! I love that she obeyed the cardinal rule - legs or boobs (not both). A solid colour clutch would have worked better. 9/10Bonang is an It girl that keeps it 100% every time she steps out. What’s not to love about this look? The thigh-high slit is super sexy with the shoes giving me shoegasm. The dress? Absolutely stunning. Make up and hair compliment the look. 10/10I’m yet to see Miss Matheba make a wrong fashion move but till then, she looks as stunning as ever. The dress is gorgeous, the shoes, a perfect match, make up and hair just right. I can see why she threw in the print bag, it adds it own pizzazz to the look. 9/10

She looks so beautiful in this blue dress! Love the hair, love her smile! Though it’s a style we’ve seen recreated over and over, she wears it with elegance. Makeup on point, and the smoky eyes are so sexy! Shoes are a no for me, just too simple, she should have worn something with more va va voom! 8/10Esther looks so elegant and the colour blue pops for her skin. I like how she has kept her accessories minimal opting for silver shoes and bag. It gives space for the dress to stand out. Least I forget, I love her ponytail, very trendy. 8/10Blue isn’t my go-to colour but I must confess this shade sure gets me. Esther looks nice and elegant and that mega-watt smile of her ticks all the right boxes. 8/10

Rita can do no wrong in my eyes. For her age, she looks exceptionally good and she is pretty too. She know what suits her and sticks to it. Love the whole look. 9/10Rita is a movie star, she exudes elegance whenever she steps out. I think someone needs to tell her gold is the right colour for her skin tone. She looks subtle yet elegant with the right show of legs. 9/10I like a girl who is confident and has no apologies for it. Rita, over the years, gets more graceful with age. This gold sequin dress warms up her skin nicely. Way to go Rita, nice make up too. 8/10

Dabota wore this outfit for a movie premiere, Living in Bondage where the theme was “Demons in Diamonds” - I’m not entirely sure her choice was theme specific. The dress is simple, Dabota has a great shape and lovely legs. I’m not a fan of the head gear as it’s over played. 6/10You will always take two whenever you see Dabota out. This dress is nice and it sits just right on her. I love the headpiece but I don’t think she should have worn it with this dress. Takes the shine off the dress. 7/10 Not sure I like the style of this dress but it works well on her. The headpiece is nice but not with the dress. I will give her an A+ for makeup and pose. She is working with what she is blessed with. 6/10

Wrap Polka Dot Mini Dress Holiday doesn’t have to mean red, green, and sequins. This polka dot mini is just as festive s style with a strappy heels.

Draped Sequined Mini DressThere’s no better time of year to channel your inner Dynasty for a show-stopping, ‘80s-inspired sequin dress.

Textured-Lamé Midi Slit DressYou can never go wrong with a metallic mini dress. Add a faux fur coat and you’ve got a glam party look that you can re-wear again.

Metallic Off-the- shoulder Asymmetric Mini DressNothing says cocktail party season quite like a metallic off-the-shoulder dress.

Floral cold shoulder Flare Dress An understated floral print cold-shoulder dress will remain chic well beyond the holiday party circuit. Add a pair of statement heels and a playful bag and you’ve got an instant party look.

Natural CurlsIf you are blessed with curls, right now is the time to embrace them. Fashion insiders are leaning into their natural hair textures, and it’s making us wish we too have natural curls!

LAYERS, LAYERS, LAYERSWHETHER YOU’RE CELEBRATING NEW YEAR’S IN COLD WEATHER OR NOT, LAYERING IS KEY TO ACHIEVING A COOL OUTSIDE-THE-BOX OUTFIT. WHETHER IT’S A DRESS OVER PANTS OR A GOWN OVER AN ASYMMETRICAL TOP, HAVE FUN WITH HOW YOU PUT TOGETHER YOUR OUTFITS.

ACCESSORIZING IS KEYNO MATTER WHAT YOU DECIDE TO WEAR, ACCESSORIZING IS KEY. WHAT YOU HAVE ON YOUR FEET, NECK, AND EARS IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS YOUR CLOTHING. JUST THAT A STATEMENT PIECE INSTEAD OF FUNCTIONAL ACCESSORIES. IT’S UP TO YOU!

BASIC ISN’T BORINGIF YOU WEAR FLATS OR SNEAKERS OR DECIDE TO GO DOWN THE MORE CASUAL YET CHIC ROUTE, KNOW THAT IT DOESN’T MEAN IT HAS TO BE “BASIC.” CLASSICS ARE JUST THAT - CLASSICS - SO YOU CAN NEVER GO WRONG WITH A BLAZER AND PALAZZO PANTS. SIMPLY ADD YOUR FAVOURITE LIPSTICK COLOUR AND YOU’RE GOOD TO GO.

IT’S ALL IN THE DETAILSTHIS STYLING TIP GOES HAND IN HAND WITH THE ONE WE MENTIONED ABOVE. JUST LIKE WITH YOUR ACCESSORIES, LEAVE IT TO SOME OF YOUR CLOTHING ITEMS TO DO ALL THE TALKING. WHETHER IT’S STATEMENT SLEEVES OR STANDOUT SHOES, FOCUS ON A FEW KEY DETAILS THAT WILL MAKE YOUR OUTFIT POP, RATHER THAN GOING FOR AN ALL-OVER DISCO-BALL LOOK.

Straight with a middle partFor an easy, everyday hairstyle, fashion insiders have been wearing their hair straight with a part down the middle. We’re seeing everything from flat-iron straight to more of an air-dried straight finish with an undone texture. Sweep hair behind the ears to frame your face.

Blunt BobsHaircuts seem to be getting shorter recently, with blunt bobs widely popular among celebs and the fashion insider set. A length that seats just above the shoulder is the most popular among fashion sets.

High buns and ponytailsFor anyone who would rather pull her hair back, go for a low-sweeping bun or ponytail. This hairstyle instantly reads as polished and sophisticated and can easily transit from day to night.
