WE PREPARE TO MEET OUR LORD Order of Service – As follows

Entrance Hymn 357 TLH (Red Hymnal)

Jesus, Thou Art Mine Forever

INVOCATION We invoke (“call upon”) the name of our Triune God.

Pastor (P): In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Congregation (C): ♪Amen!

P: Beloved of God: Let us draw near with a true heart, and confess our sins to God our Father, asking Him, in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to grant us forgiveness:

CONFESSION OF SINS HYMN 616 V 1-3 LSB

♪ ♪Baptismal waters cover me

As I approach on bended knee, My Father’s mercy here I plead,

For grievous sins of thought and deed.

I look to Christ upon the tree, His body broken there for me;

I lay before Him all my sin, My darkest secrets from within.

Lord, may your wounded hand impart

Your healing to my broken heart; Your love alone can form in me A heart that serves You joyfully.

P: God, our heavenly Father, has been merciful to us and has given His

only Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Therefore, as a called servant of Christ and by His authority, I forive you all yours sins in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

RESPONSE TO THE ABSOLUTION HYMN 616 V 4-5 LSB

♪From Your own mouth comes forth a word;

Your shepherd speaks, but You are heard;

Page 3: SUNDAY IN TRINITY SEASON

3

Through him Your hand now stretches out, Forgiving sin, destroying doubt.

Baptismal waters cover me;

Christ’s wounded hand has set me free. Held in my Father’s strong embrace, With joy I praise Him for His grace.

FIRST LESSON LAMENTATIONS 3:19-26

Remember my affliction and roaming, the wormwood and the gall. 20 My soul still remembers and sinks within me. 21 This I recall to my mind, therefore I hae hope. 22 Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. 24 ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘Therefore I hope in Him!’ 25 The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. 26 It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

PSALM OF THE DAY PSALM 61

P: Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. C: From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is

overwhelmed; Lead me to a rock that is higher than I. P: For you have been a shelter for me, A strong tower from the enemy. C: I will abide in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your

wings. Selah

P: For You, O God, have heard my vows; You have given me the heritage of those who fear Your name.

C: You will prolong the kings life, His years as many generations. P: He shall abide before God forever. C: Oh, prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him! P: So I will sing praise to Your name forever, That I may preform my

vows.

SECOND LESSON LUKE 19:41-44

Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it, 42 saying, ‘If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they were hidden from your eyes. 43 For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side, 44 and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation.’

CONFESSION OF FAITH NICENE CREED

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by Whom all things were made; Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, Whose kingdom will have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of life, Who proceeds from the Father and the Son, Who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, Who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, And I look for the resurrection of the dead And the life of the world to come. Amen.

Hymn of the Day 419 TLH (Red Hymnal)

The Witness is an email newsletter for young Christians, especially those faced with the daily trials of life on a college campus or in other secular settings. As Christians who believe every word of Scripture is inspired by God, our views are often dismissed in favor of more contemporary, humanist thinking. It’s very easy to feel alone in our faith. The Witness seeks to fill that void by connecting like-minded Christians through social media.
