THANKSGIVING TABLE PRAYER

O Gracious God, we give you thanks for your overflowing generosity to us. Thank you for the blessings of the food we eat and especially for this feast today. Thank you for our home, our family and friends, especially for the presence

of those gathered here. Thank you for our health, our work and our play. Please send

help to those who are hungry, alone, sick and suffering war and violence. Open our hearts to your love. We ask your blessing through Christ

your son. Amen.

Today is the Feast of Christ the King. Is the end of the one Liturgical Season. It is the end of the

Ordinary Time. Next week is the beginning of the new Liturgical Year and the beginning of the

Advent Season.

An Advent Wreath Prayer “Come Jesus; come. Give power to light and to

good. Come where falsehood, ignorance of God, violence and justice predominate. Come Lord

Jesus, give power to the good in the world and help us be bearers of your light, peacemakers, witnesses

of the truth. Come, Lord Jesus!” Amen.

CATECHESIS PREPARING FOR DEATH

As Catholics we spend our entire earthly life preparing ourselves for the moment when God will call us to our eternal home. We rely on the Church and the sacraments to strengthen us on our earthly journey. We should also rely on the church and the sacraments to strengthen us on our journey to eternal embrace of God.

The sacrament of the Anointing of the sick strengthens us in our passage from this life to the next. The anointing of the sick is not only reserved to the dying, it is should also be received by those who are very sick. The Catechism of the Roman Catholic church states, “Anointing of the sick (is) one of the seven sacraments, also known as the sacrament of the dying, (it is) administered by a priest to a baptized person who begins to be in danger of death because of illness or old age, through prayer and the anointing of the body with the oil of the sick. The proper effects of the sacrament include a special grace of healing and comfort to the Christian who is suffering the infirmities of serious illness or old age and the forgiveness of the person’s sins.”

If we, or a loved one, remains homebound because of illness for an extended period of time, it is recommended that the parish be called so that a priest may come to visit the sick person in order to bring communion and administer the anointing of the sick. If someone is in danger of immediate death it is also recommended that the priest be called as soon as possible.

One of the gifts that the Catholic Church gives to those who are preparing for death is the Apostolic Pardon. Catholic priests have the power to administer this blessing to any Catholic in danger of death, freeing them from all and any temporal punishment and allowing them to enter directly into the eternal embrace of God.

During the month of November, the Church reminds us of the importance of praying for the dead. Never forget to pray for the souls in purgatory! We should also never forget to help those in danger of death properly prepare themselves for the coming of Jesus Christ, who comes to call us to our eternal dwelling. Heaven.

November is the Month in which we pray for the Dead. In order to bring some awareness to our parish, Fr. Stewart is including below a letter about

preparing for death written by Fr. Richard Marrano, Pastor of St. John Chrysostom Church in the Bronx.

CATEQUESIS PREPARÁNDOSE PARA LA MUERTE

Como católicos, pasamos toda nuestra vida terrenal preparándonos para el momento en que Dios nos llamará a nuestro hogar eterno. Confiamos en la Iglesia y los sacramentos para fortalecernos en nuestro viaje terrenal. También debemos confiar en la iglesia y los sacramentos para fortalecernos en nuestro viaje hacia el abrazo eterno de Dios.

El sacramento de la Unción de los enfermos nos fortalece en nuestro paso de esta vida a la próxima. La unción de los enfermos no solo está reservada a los moribundos, sino que también debe ser recibida por aquellos que están muy enfermos. El Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica Romana dice: “La unción de los enfermos (es) uno de los siete sacramentos, también conocido como el sacramento de los moribundos, (es) administrado por un sacerdote a una persona bautizada que comienza a estar en peligro de muerte por enfermedad o vejez, a través de la oración y la unción del cuerpo con el óleo de los enfermos. Los efectos apropiados del sacramento incluyen una gracia especial de sanación y consuelo para el cristiano que sufre las enfermedades de una enfermedad grave o la vejez y el perdón de los pecados de la persona."

Si nosotros, o un ser querido, permanece en casa debido a una enfermedad por un período prolongado de tiempo, se recomienda que se llame a la parroquia para que un sacerdote pueda visitar a la persona enferma con el fin de traer la comunión y administrar la unción del enfermo. Si alguien está en peligro de muerte inmediata, también se recomienda que se llame al sacerdote lo antes posible.

Uno de los regalos o dones que la Iglesia Católica da a quienes se preparan para la muerte es el Perdón Apostólico. Los sacerdotes católicos tienen el poder de administrar esta bendición a cualquier católico en peligro de muerte, liberándolo de todo castigo temporal y permitiéndole entrar directamente en el abrazo eterno de Dios.

Durante el mes de noviembre, la Iglesia nos recuerda la importancia de rezar por los muertos. ¡Nunca olvides orar por las almas del purgatorio! Tampoco debemos olvidar nunca ayudar a aquellos en peligro de muerte a prepararse adecuadamente para la venida de Jesucristo, que viene a llamarnos a nuestra morada eterna. Cielo.

Noviembre es el mes en el que rezamos por los Difuntos. Para traer algo de conciencia a nuestra parroquia, el Padre. Stewart incluye a continuación

una carta sobre la preparación para la muerte escrita por el p. Richard Marrano, Párroco de la Iglesia de San Juan Crisóstomo en el Bronx.

Servant of God, Sister Thea Bowman, F.S.P.A. The granddaughter of slaves, Bertha Bowman (1937-1990) was born in rural Mississippi, raised Methodist, but baptized Catholic at age ten. When she was sixteen, Bertha entered the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration community and became the only African-American in the white order. Sister Thea Bowman said, "I bring my whole history, my traditions, my experience, my culture, my African-American song and dance and gesture and movement and teaching, and preaching and healing and responsibility as a gift to the Church."
