He knows that the apostles' faith will be brought to its breaking point. What would sus- tain them, so that they do not break? First, Jesus showed them his godhead in the transfiguraon. He allowed them to see a glimpse of His divinity. He allowed them to see His divinity, "as he was transfig- ured before them, and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no fuller on earth could bleach them." Secondly, he also showed them that the whole Scripture, represented by Moses and Elijah was backing him up. "Then Elijah appeared to them along with Moses, and they were conversing with Jesus." In effect, Jesus was sending a clear signal to his disciples that they should hold on to what they experience in the transfiguraon event, so that they do not fall apart. The overwhelming experience of the disciples was endorsed by no less than the Father of Jesus Himself, "This is my beloved Son." As a Father, he will never abandon his son even in death.

REFLECTION Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem to suffer and die. He knows that the apostles' faith will be brought to its breaking point. What would sus-tain them, so that they do not break? Celebration of Life

CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES What is the CRS Rice Bowl?

CRS Rice Bowl is Catholic Relief Services’ Lenten program for families and faith commu-

nities in the United States who want to put their faith into action. Through CRS Rice

Bowl, participants are invited to hear stories about their brothers and sisters in need

around the world, and devote their Lenten prayers, fasting and alms to change the lives

of those who suffer in poverty.

Participants journey through the 40 days of Lent with a collection of daily reflections and

activities included in the CRS Rice Bowl calendar and on the mobile app.

Principles of Catholic Social Teaching

Join this Lenten Journey and read each week about the Stories of

Hope in 2018.

Week 3: Care for God’s Creation

Catholic social teaching inspires and guides how we are to live and work in the world. In this principle, Care for God's Creation, we remember that God created every plant, every mountaintop, every animal—everything. And God said that these things are good. We find God in these good things, and so we must

take care of creation—for ourselves and for our entire human family.

Encounter Safiata

The dry and dusty climate of Burkina Faso means farming can be

difficult. It means water can be hard to come by. And it means

Safiata and her family often face hunger. Even though she had

two plots of land to farm, the many months each year without rain

made feeding her 9 children and 16 grandchildren a real

challenge.

That’s why Catholic Relief Services is providing farmers like Safiata with more land to grow crops—like

onions—that thrive in dry climates. And thanks to a CRS-sponsored irrigation system, she knows she’ll

have access to water year-round. That means her crops will grow, and she’ll be able to sell some at the

market. “I pay school fees thanks to selling the vegetables. The vegetables help solve the problems my

family faces,” Safiata says.

Moreover, she can prepare for the future. Together with others, Safiata is putting a little of the income she

earns from selling her crops at the market into a community savings pool. “If you face difficulties, the com-

munity will help you,” she says. Those who contribute can borrow money from the fund for emergencies,

school fees for their children, or to build businesses.

National Call-in Day

for the Protection of

Dreamers, Feb. 26

WASHINGTON—Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo of Galveston-Houston, presi-dent of the U.S. Conference of Catho-lic Bishops (USCCB), along with USCCB vice-president, Archbishop José H. Gomez of Los Angeles, and Bishop Joe S. Vásquez, chairman, USCCB Committee on Migration, have issued a call to U.S. Catholics and people of good will across the nation to take part in a "Call-in-Day" on February 26 for the Protection of

Dreamers.

With the March 5th deadline looming, we ask once again that Members of Congress show the leadership neces-sary to find a just and humane solu-tion for these young people, who daily face mounting anxiety and uncertain-

ty.

Therefore, the bishops are asking individuals to contact their Members

of Congress to urge them to:

Protect Dreamers from deporta-tion

To provide them a path to citizen-ship

And, to avoid any damage to existing protections for families and unaccom-

panied minors in the process To take part in the Call-In-Day to Pro-

tect Dreamers, please contact your Members of Congress by calling 855-

589-5698 and visiting https://justiceforimmigrants.org/what-we-are-

working-on/immigration/daca-resource-page/ (English and Spanish

downloads are available).
