The Feast of the Presentation of Jesus Joseph and Mary brought their infant firstborn son to the rite of presentation and purification. Jesus is consecrated (dedicated to God) as required by the Law of Moses. It is celebrated 40 days after Christ-mas. Only in Luke's Gospel do we find this Jewish heritage of Jesus mentioned. Luke wrote for the Gentiles and wanted them to understand that God’s promised to Israel also extended to them.
