We are happy to announce that Bishop David Zubik will be coming to Our Lady of Hope to celebrate the Stations of the Cross on Friday, March
. More details about the Bishop’s visit to our parish will be forthcoming.
ongoing scams involving me and
other priests of the Diocese. Someone highjacks our email lists and poses as one of us asking for gift cards, supposedly for someone who is sick or in great need. Please be advised I never ask anyone for any kind of money or gift cards in email or text messages. Here is a clue as to what to watch for so as not to fall victim to the scam. If you receive such a message, look closely at the email address and you will see
have fallen victim to this scam. If ever in any doubt about an email message purportedly coming from me – or anyone else – please verify that the message is authentic. If you receive one of these scam emails do not reply to the message.
Congratulations to our second grade parishioners who received their First Reconciliation this past Tuesday, or will do so this coming Tuesday. Please keep in your prayers the young people who have received this important Sacrament and now turn their attention on preparing for First Holy Communion. Gratefully in Christ,

LIVE JESUS
Inspiration for the week
How is your Lent going so far? In changing the circumstances and order of our lives a bit, perhaps we can hear God’s voice more clearly and drink more deeply of graced moments we experience. Having God as a friend always involves several things.
First, there is God’s call. We become attuned to the echo of God’s voice in the depth of our souls, calling and beckoning us to listen.
Second, there is a request. We begin to see that God asks us to do certain things, to order our lives a particular way, and become more intentional in the choices we make.
Third, there is trust. Do we trust this call and request? Trust commits us to the relationship and makes a claim on who we are.
Finally, we are asked to act. We find ourselves acting, not in the way we used to, but in a transformed, more enlightened way.
Things seem clearer and all that is around us shines with the brilliance of God’s presence. God’s call came through a cloud. “This is my beloved Son. Listen to Him,” This is the call and the request. Can we give God our trust and do as God asks?
LIVE JESUS
From the book by Fr. Michael E. Gaitley, MIC 33 Days to Morning Glory
The Rosary’s completeness, simplicity, and depth flow from its structure. It consists of 20 sets of 10 Hail Marys - often called “decades” - each punctuated by Our Father, Glory Be, and the ‘O My Jesus’ Fatima prayer. Each of the 20 sets of 10 Hail Marys is dedicated to a particular event or ‘mystery’ from Sacred Scripture, which is to be meditated and contemplated while prayers are said.
Joyful Mysteries (prayed Sundays during Advent, Mondays & Saturdays)
1. The Annunciation .... And when the angel had come to her, he said “Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women.” Fruit of this mystery: Humility
2. The Visitation .... Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and cried out in a loud voice: “Blest are you among women and blest is the fruit of your womb.” Fruit of this mystery: Love of Neighbor
3. The Birth of Jesus .... She gave birth to her first-born Son and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the place where travelers lodged. Fruit of this mystery: Poverty
4. The Presentation .... When the day came to purify them according to the law of Moses, the couple brought Him up to Jerusalem so that He could be presented to the Lord, for it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every first-born male shall be consecrated to the Lord.” Fruit of this mystery: Obedience
5. Finding the Child Jesus in the Temple .... On the third day they came upon Him in the temple sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Fruit of this mystery: Joy in finding Jesus

SOUTH REGIONAL CATHOLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

SCHOOL MERGER QUESTIONS & ANSWERS St. Elizabeth and St. Gabriel School Merger Questions and Answers
With an understanding that changes to a school carry deep and emotional impact, we offer these questions and answers to help create a better understanding of the reasons for the necessary change.
1. Why is this happening? Over the past fifty years, the regional population has dropped by about 30%. As a result, student population in public, private and our Catholic schools has reflected this trend. In addition, fewer Catholics and the increased cost of operat-ing Catholic schools has meant higher tuition and unsustainable parish subsidies, which has also contributed to a steep decline in student population. Both St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin and St. Elizabeth of Hungary School populations have declined in the past few years. Additionally, the South Regional Catholic Elementary Schools (SRCES) Board of Directors projects that the subsidy from the newly formed Triumph of the Holy Cross and Our Lady of Hope Parishes would continue to increase at an unsustainable
board of directors to look closely at these serious issues and develop a plan for the accessibility, affordability, and sustainability of Catholic education in the southern portion of the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
2. How did each community share in the decision? Immediately upon the constitution of the SRCES governing board, Fr. David Poecking, president of the board, met with the pastors, Fr. John Skirtich and Fr. Paul Zywan, to begin a discussion regarding the future of the two schools. Over the next several months, at multiple meetings, parish and school representatives met with the pastors and the board. Both pastors consistently spoke to the needs of their parish communities including those of the school families. They also
, demographic, and consultative documentation was shared with the board in preparation for and prior to its December board meeting.
3. How was the decision made? In December, during an extended meeting, the SRCES Board of Directors deliberated concerning the extensive data and consultation process. At that time, the board voted to recommend that the two schools merge, and that the main campus of the newly merged school should be situated at the site of the former St. Gabriel School building.
4. What happens next?
for our children through our newly merged school. The regional administrator, Sharon Loughran Brown, will oversee the next steps which include forming an implementation committee to assist in gathering input from their respective school communities to inform decisions, identifying the enrollment process for the new school, and publicizing a tuition policy.
council is named. The implementation committee will also participate in the hiring process for the principal with the regional administrator and the Director of Catholic Schools. The existing diocesan process for the hiring of prin-cipals will be followed, including the internal posting of the position. The principal of the newly merged school, once named, will select the faculty and determine the 2021-22 programming. There will be several opportunities to get in-volved, starting with a request for you to join us in prayer for the success of the St. Elizabeth and St. Gabriel consolidated school. We also invite you to direct any questions to the SRCES office at [email protected].
