Christian families are to imitate the example of the Holy Family by striving to live in love and unity with

God and one another.

The first reading from the Book of Sirach highlights the importance of loving and honor-ing one’s parents, and the blessings that flow from it. The second reading exhorts us, as brothers and sisters in the Lord, to lovingly bear with and forgive one another. In

Saint Luke’s Gospel, Joseph and Mary take the child Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem to be presented and consecrated to the Lord.

Joseph and Mary loved God and did their best to be obedient to all God asked them to do. They lovingly cared for the child Jesus, brought him up to walk in the ways of the Lord, and lived in love and unity with God and one another. Their life together as a family was marked by holiness and love, and it is the example after which all Christian families are to

pattern their lives.
