CELEBRATING 20 Years ROWING for a CAUSE.

OUR MISSION: To put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

THE WOODLANDS FAMILY YMCA ANNUAL CAMPAIGN Each year, the YMCA Dragon Boat Team Challenge raises funds, to ensure the YMCA continues to strengthen our community through the programs we offer. It’s because of the support of organiza-tions like yours that we are able to offer opportunities to learn, grow and thrive. Your support will allow us to provide financial assistance (more than $600,000 annually) to those in need. Every dollar raised is an investment in our community and our future.

OUR COMMITMENT The Woodlands Family YMCA has been committed to our community for more than 35 years. We provide quality programs, available to everyone regardless of age, financial resources, religion or socio-economic background. OUR CAUSE We are a powerful association of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility. We believe that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. That’s why, at the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors in surrounding communities, to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.

OUR PROMISE: The Y has long-standing relationships and physical presence not just to promise, but to deliver lasting, personal and social change. Though the world may be unpredictable, one thing remains certain - the Y is, and always will be, dedicated to building healthy, confident, secure and connected children, families and communities. KEY INITIATIVES The needs of our community are diverse and evolving. As we strive to create a better US and strengthen community, we will focus our work in these four key initiatives. ♦ ELIMINATE DROWING: Drowning is the 2nd leading cause of death of children under the age of 14 in Texas. The

Y is committed to make families safer around the water by providing swim lesson instruction and parent education in an effort to eliminate drowning and save lives.

♦ IMPROVE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE: Every day after school, 1 in 4 children in the U.S. is left alone and unsupervised being at a higher risk for dropping out of school, juvenile crime, substance abuse etc . . .The Y helps children reach their full potential by providing quality educational opportunities during out-of-school time.

♦ ELIMINATE CHRONIC DISEASE & CHILDHOOD OBESITY: Children living in low-income neighborhoods are 20—60% more likely to be obese or overweight than children living in high socioeconomic status neighborhoods and healthier built environments. The Y provides health education, wellness & nutrition classes, support groups and part-nerships in an effort to eliminate youth obesity and chronic disease, such as hypertension and Type 2 diabetes.

♦ CREATE OPPORTUNITIES FOR SOCIAL EQUITY: One in four Texas children live in poverty. The Y responds to unique needs of our community by affording individuals and families who have not had equal access to resources, opportunities and support, with services and programs that focus on critical areas like quality of life, child care, community wellness, resettlement and job placement.
