COUNTDOWN TO WORSHIP “Easter Life Quotes”

WELCOME & GREETING Rev. Fred Baum

*OPENING HYMN “Christ the Lord Is Risen Today” follow screen

*EASTER CONFESSION We believe in God—who works in the hidden stillness of every dawn; who

    beckons us to visit the tomb of our fears so we might discover the birth of hope;

who sends reoccurring dreams, fragrant flowers, good friends and bright angels

with messages of joy and possibility.

We believe in Jesus, the risen Christ—who meets us on every path; who greets us

with respect, names and calms our fears, and bids us walk and talk as children of

the Light; who is always going before us into our workplace and play space.

We believe in the Holy Spirit—who gathers us into a kindred community; who

works through the lame and the late, the wrinkled and the newborn, the hurting

and the hopeful; who nudges our prayers, kindles our longings and prompts our

    praise.

We believe we are called to be Easter people—challenging despair with glowing

hope, acting peacefully in the midst of painful Good Fridays, and living joyfully

even in the midst of harsh realities.

We believe in the church—the handholding, hearty singing and passionate, caring

fellowship of seekers and finders. This we believe. Amen.

    “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus”

    PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Lord Jesus Christ, you are the way of peace. Come into the brokenness of

our lives and our land with your healing love. Help us to be willing to bow

before you in true repentance, and to bow to one another in real

forgiveness. By the fire of your Holy Spirit, melt our hard hearts and

consume the pride and prejudice which separate us. Fill us, O Lord, with

  • your perfect love, which casts out our fear, and bind us together in that

unity which you share with Father and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

    SILENT PRAYER OF CONFESSION

    DECLARATION OF FORGIVENESS

Leader: If we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive us our

sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. In the name of Jesus

    Christ you are forgiven!

People: In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!

    All: Glory to God. Amen.

    PASTORAL PRAYER

SHARING OF CELEBRATIONS & CONCERNS Rev. Fred Baum

OFFERTORY “Man of Sorrows” (Anna Page) Mary Bellah

*DOXOLOGY “Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow” No. 95

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION Rev. Fred Baum

THE GOOD NEWS OF THE RESURRECTION Luke 24:1-12 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they

had prepared and went to the tomb. 2

They found the stone rolled away from the

    tomb, 3

but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While

they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like

    lightning stood beside them. 5

In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to

the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the

dead? 6 He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still

    with you in Galilee: 7

‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners,

be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’” 8

    Then they remembered his words.

9 When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to

    all the others. 10

It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the

others with them who told this to the apostles. 11

But they did not believe the women,

because their words seemed to them like nonsense. 12

Peter, however, got up and ran to

the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went

away, wondering to himself what had happened.

Leader: This is the word of God for the people of God.

    People: Thanks be to God!

An Opportunity to Serve Your Vista Family Vista needs a Communion Steward. This is someone who will purchase the bread and juice each month, prepare the bread and juice on Communion Sunday, and place it on the Altar. There are several ladies who are assistants and will be there to help you. If would like to volunteer for this position, or get further information, please call Gail Parson at 520-275-7117, or the Church office at 520-825-1985.

    CONSIDER ENDOWMENT

Be sure that your estate planning documents are properly prepared. A

homemade Will can result in unnecessary expense and delay. When your

documents are prepared, consider naming Vista’s endowment as a beneficiary.

  • Final Fine Arts Committee Meeting April 16, 2019

The Fine Arts Committee met on April 16, 2019, to review and wrap up our activities in anticipation of deactivating the committee. As a result, motions were made and the voting was unanimous to allocate our remaining funds of $7,271 as follows:

    1. To UMM for many years of labor and service and in honor of Howard Young, $500.

    2. Honorariums to the office staff, Pam Holder and Pat Johnson, for extra work done on behalf of the Fine Arts Committee in the amount of $50 each.

    3. Establish a piano fund with the initial amount of $5,000 to be used to replace the piano in the worship center. The replacement is to be done in consultation with the music director and church accompanists.

    4. The remaining funds shall be used to purchase 60 music folders for the chancel choir.

    5. In the event that there are leftover funds after said purchase, they shall remain in the Fine Arts account.

Bill Bellah, co-chairman, thanked the committee, present and past, for many years of faithful service in the furtherance of evangelism and fine arts in northwest Tucson.

    Respectfully submitted

    Peggy Higgins, Secretary
