FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT

First Reading: Gen 2:7-9; 3:1-7 A reading from the book of Genesis

Responsorial : Be merciful, O Lord, for we have sinned.

Second Reading: Rom 5:12-19 A reading from the letter of St Paul to the Romans

Gospel Acclamation: Alleluia, alleluia! Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ, king of endless glory! No one lives on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ, king of endless glory! Alleluia, alleluia!

Gospel: Mt 4:1-11 A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew

At that time Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. He fasted for forty

days and forty nights, and afterwards he was hungry. The tempter approached and said to him, "If you

are the Son of God, command that these stones become loaves of bread." He said in reply,

"It is written: One does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of

God." Then the devil took him to the holy city, and made him stand on the parapet of the temple,

and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. For it is written: He will command his

angels concerning you and with their hands they will support you, lest you dash your foot against a

stone." Jesus answered him, "Again it is written, You shall not put the Lord, your God, to the test."

Then the devil took him up to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in

their magnificence, and he said to him, "All these I shall give to you, if you will prostrate yourself and

worship me." At this, Jesus said to him, "Get away, Satan! It is written: The Lord, your God, shall you

worship and him alone shall you serve." Then the devil left him and, behold, angels came and ministered

to him.

At this meeting, we will prepare plans for all Easter litur-gies. We want as many of you there as possible. Please bring any ideas or resources you have for this year’s Easter liturgies. If you have further enquiries please contact Conny ([email protected]) or Clyde ([email protected]).

VOLUNTEER - Are you retired or semi-retired and want to be part of a team of volunteers carrying out the healing ministry of Jesus? And are you a member of a parish and form part of the team of ‘Special Eucharistic ministers’ and want to visit the sick? If you an-swered ‘Yes’ to these questions and want to commit to this ministry two mornings a week, please email me at the following address to express your interest. [email protected]

LENTEN DISCUSSION GROUP: Friday morning Lenten Group needs a few more participants so if you have some spare time from 10.30-11.30 please come along to the Keogh Room each Friday during Lent. It is a beautiful Gospel based program with group discussion, prayer and a short dvd presentation each week. If interested in joining this friendly group you can add your name to the sign up sheet in the foyer or ring Conny at the office.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS during Lent will be held every Friday night in the church at 7pm except on the 31st of March at 6.30pm. Each

week will have a different parish group leading the prayers. We hope to see as many of you there as last year.

Message from Sr. JOY - Thank you to all parishioners for all your prayer support for the past few weeks. I have had part of my left lung

removed due to a tumor and my T8 (in the spinal column) re built because it has disintegrated. The present plan is for some rehabilita-

tion then radiation treatment. So please continue to pray for me - love Joy .

RCIA CATECHUMENS Jason Prasad and Shilpa Gaikwad and their sponsors together with the RCIA team, will be travelling to Sale this

Sunday for the Rite of Election, which will be held at St Mary’s cathedral at 3pm. The Rite of Election is a special ceremony where all the

catechumens in the Sale diocese sign their names in the book of the Elect, which is then presented to the bishop, as a symbol of their

readiness to receive their sacraments at the Easter . It signifies that the bishop accepts the witness of their sponsors and the wider

church as to the readiness of these catechumens to become fully initiated members of the church. So please pray for them all this Sun-

day and keep them in your prayers as they journey towards Easter.

SACRISTANS MEETING - On the 8th April 2017 the sacristans are invited to a meeting from 11.00am—12.00noon at the Don Bosco

School Hall to discuss the effective running of this ministry in our parish. There will also be light refreshments after the meeting, so

those sacristans who will be attending the meeting are requested to contact the parish office.

THE CATENIANS - CATHOLIC MEN'S GROUP – FORMATION: A decision has been made to inaugurate a formal Catenian Group in the

Dandenong Deanery and the necessary paperwork is under way. The next Meeting on WEDNESDAY, March 8th at 7.00 pm at the

Sandown Park Greyhounds Tabaret (entry off View Road) will be a Formation Meeting when all prospective members are expected to

attend to finalise numbers and plans for the actual Inauguration expected to take place on Wednesday 12th April 2017 at the same

venue and time. Both are “men only” meetings including an excellent 2 course meal at a reasonable cost. Drinks are available at bar

prices. Contact Con Lilley on 87949513 if you wish to attend or need further information.

CELEBRATING THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA - In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Our Lady of Fati-ma, the parish in conjunction with the Alliance of the Holy Family International have organised for the Centennial Pilgrim Image of Our Lady of Fatima to visit our parish from the 31st of March—2nd April 2017. The statue was blessed by our Pope on the 11th January 2017 and has been touring Australia since. We have been privileged to be the only parish in the Diocese of Sale to have the opportunity to venerate the statue. We invite all our parishioners to participate in the three day event and seek Our Lady's blessing and interces-sion. A detailed flyer is attached to the bulletin.

EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION - TRAINING SESSION - Dear Pa-rishioners, we thank all those who have generously responded in service to others by being appointed as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion (EMHC). There will be a training session for all EMHC at 11am on the 18th of March. If you intend attending the training, could you please call the parish office. Please note the importance of attending the meeting, as those attending will comprise the new roster in the second half of the year. If for whatever reason you are unable to attend the training session please notify the parish office that you still wish to remain on the new roster, similarly if you wish to conclude your commitment, could you also please let the parish office know about this decision. It is mandatory that all EMHC have a valid working with children check. All EMHC will be commissioned to their role at all weekend masses over the 25th/ 26th March.

IT IS COMPULSORY TO HAVE A WWC CHECK IF YOU ARE ON A PARISH ROSTER. We still have individuals and groups that have not complied with this request. This is a breach of the Victorian Legislation which came into effect on 1 January 2017. Please support our Parish by complying and obtaining WWCC.
