4. INSTALLATION
IMPORTANT: First set mode switch #2to pulse ortone telephones (See previous page).
CONNECT THE PX-4 BY THE FOLLOWING PROCE.DURES
1. Connect extension lines to jacks in rear of PX-4.
2. Connect door phone #1 line to stop screw onbottom of unit.
3. Connect door phone #2ltne to extension #4 jack(option). Set mode switch to "door phone" (seeprevious page).
3. Connect outside telephone line to outside line jack.
4. Check to see that all connections are firmly inplace.
5. Set Normal / Direct inward Dialing switch.
6. Insert power cord to AC power wall socket.
NOTE: Be sure to connect extensions 1 and 2 be-cause they can be used as regular telephones duringa power failure.

NOTE: lf your extension lines do not have. jac[P., attachwires directly to screw-in terminal block. We haveprovided 2 spacers, 4 screws and 4 washers in order-io secure thb lines to the body of the PX-4. See thediagram below.
HOW TO HANG ON THE WALL
1. Use the enclosed paper stencil to mark proper posi-tion of screws on wall.
2. Install enclosed screws into wall and hang up unit ac-cording to the diagram below.
DO hang on a sturdY wall.
DO NOT hang on an earth or fabric wall
DO NOT use suction-type hooks or glue-on hooks tohang up the PX-4.

RECEIVING AN INCOMING CALL
The PX-4 can be set for receiving incoming calls intwo different ways:
Normal receiving
1. Set switch to "normal" mode.2. Incoming call will ring all extensions.
Direct lnward Dialing (DlD): The PX-4 can automati-cally transfer outside cal/s to an ertension.
1. Set switch to "DlD" mode.2. Incoming caller will hear tones for 5 seconds.

3. Incoming caller dials *1,*2,*3 or *4 to select ext..4. After 5 sec. if no ext. # is selected, All ext. wirr ring.5. call will be cut in 30 seconds if no one answers.
Note: DID will ring extension even if beil is turned oFF

1. Set switch to DID mode.2. Incoming caller hears tones for 5 seconds.3. Caller presses 01 , 02 or 03 for different ring pat-terns (see p. 14).
TRANSFER AND HOLD OF INCOMING ANDOUTGOING CALLS

1. Wait 1 sec. to transfer incoming call.2. Wait 15 sec. to transfer outgoing call.3. "Flash" and dial ext. #.4. Hear extension ringing.5. Wait until extension is answered, then hang up OR6. Hang up right away. (caller is put on hold; botn ex-tensions will sound a "hold" tone).
Note 1: Transfer will not go through if intercom line isbusy: after 3 sec. transfer will return to original ext..

Transfer to own extension # puts the cailer on hold.

DOOR PHONE
Receiving a call from the door phone
1. Pick up any extension to answer door phone.2. Only the exts. with door phone bell ON will ring.
Calling door phone
1. Listen for intercom dial tone.2. Call6 (door phone #1) or 7 (door phone #2).
INTERCOM
Making an intercom call
1. Listen for extension dial tone.2. dtal extension #.3. Listen for ring.
lf intercom is busy
1. Hear busy signal.2. Can not dial.

7.WHEN YOUWHILE USING
GET A CALLAN EXTENSION
NOTE: All of the following signals are heard in thetelephone headset.
INTERCOM LINE IN USE
Door phone calls
1. Hear door phone signal (see p. 1S) tor 7 seconds.2. Hang up, or "flash".3. Pick up receiver.4. Talk to door phone.
Note: lf you wait too long to hang up, you must dial"6" or "7" to connect and talk to the door phone.
Outside line calls
1. Hear outside line signal (see p.15).2. "Flash".3. Intercom is cut off and connection to outside linecall established.
DOOR PHONE LINE IN USE
Outside line calls
1. Hear outside line signal.2. Hang up, or "flash".3. Hear outside line ring.4. Pick up receiver and talk to outside line.
OUTSIDE LINE IN USE
Door phone calls
1. Hear door phone signal.2. "Flash" (outside line goes on hold).3. Extension is connected to door phone.4. Reconnect to outside line by "Flashing".

lf you receive an incoming call while using an exten-sion, a tone is heard in the headset with the samesound pattern as its respective ring.

9. TURNING OFF RING
1) Hear intercom dial tone.
2) Dial "8888".
3) Notice tone change.
4) Calls from outside will not ring extension.
5) Cancel ring OFF by dialing "9999".
NOTE 1: Power failure or plug withdrawal will cancelring OFF mode.
NOTE 2: ltextension bell switch (on bottom of PX-4unit) is turned off then bell will still not ring.

10. IN CASE OF POWER FAILURE
1) Extensions 1 and 2 will work as regular phones.
2) Extensions 3 and 4 and door phone OFF.
3) Other functions OFF.

11. CONNECTING FA)( OR PC

1) Connect FAX or PC to extension 4.2) Disable ring of extension 4 by switch on undersideof PX-4.
Operation
1) Incoming FAX will ring the bells of extensions 1,2and 3 ring as normal.
2) Lift handset and hear a sound like a whistle.3) Transfer FAX to ext. 4. When transfer goes through,
FAX transmission will begin.4) To transmit a fax, use phone on FAX machine:
simply access outside line and dial desired number.
NOTE: Consult FAX specifications about possible volt-age problems when attaching machine to PX-4.

' 13. USAGE NOTES
1) To properly hang up extension, push hook switchfor at least 1 second.
2) A detached or loose power cord will cause thesame condition as a power failure.
3) When pulling out the power cord be careful.
4) Hang PX-4 in a safe place.
5) Use NT-DB type of door phone; other types willnot work.
6) sometimes telephones which are restricted in sub-scriber loop resistance will not work.
7) The PX-4 may become slighily warm during use .
8) outside line, PX-4, and all extensions must all beset the same for either pulse or tone phones.
14. TROUBLE SHOOTING
Check the following before repairing:
1) ls power cord loose or withdrawn from the wallsocket?
2) ls all wiring secure?
3) Are switches on underside of PX-4 set correctly?
