Lifestyle Man visiting a remote island remarked on how healthy the local people looked. “Yes, it’s the island,” said an attractive resident. “When I first arrived I was bald and toothless. I was so weak I couldn’t even walk. Look at me now!” “Amazing!” said the visitor. “So where are you from?” “I was born here,” said the resident.

Happy Valentines Day

Kokopelli

Kokopelli is a fertility deity, usually depicted as a humpbacked flute player. Like most fertility deities, Kokopelli presides over both childbirth and agriculture. Among the Hopi, Kokopelli carries unborn children on his back and distributes them to women; for this reason, young girls often fear him. He often takes part in rituals relating to marriage, He is also a trickster god and represents the spirit of music. In his domain over agriculture, Kokopelli's fluteplaying chases away the winter and brings about spring.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Is It Safe to Take Aspirin and Ibuprofen Together? In short, most people shouldn’t. (AARP Bulletin 2016) A dangerous combination Taking them together increases your risk of side effects. A risk of stomach bleeding increases if you:

• are older than 60 years; have or have had stomach ulcers or bleeding; take blood thinners or steroids; drink three or more alcoholic beverages per day; take more of either drug than recommended; take either drug for longer than directed.

Both aspirin and ibuprofen may also cause hearing problems, ringing in your ears or a decrease in hearing. If you do, you should contact your doctor. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), ibuprofen can interfere with the anti-clotting effect of low-dose aspirin (81 mg per day), potentially making the aspirin less effective when it is used to help protect your heart and help prevent a stroke. Consider the following: taking ibuprofen occasionally, there is only a minimal risk that the ibuprofen will interfere with the effect of low-dose aspirin. …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

The Great American Think-Off The 2018 question is: “Which plays a larger role in shaping one’s life: success or failure?” The Great American Think-Off is an exhibition of civil disagreement between powerful ideas that connect to your life at the gut level. The Cultural Center, located in New York Mills, sponsors this annual philosophy contest. People of all ages are encouraged to submit an essay of no more than 750 words for a chance to win one of four $500 cash prizes and participate in the live debate to ultimately answer the question, determined by audience vote. The question is released each year on January 1st. Essays are then accepted through April 1st (postmark or electronic date stamp), with the finalists announced May 1st. The debate is held on the second Saturday in June. Writers are encouraged to ground their essays in personal experience rather than philosophical abstraction. Four writers will be selected as finalists. Costs for winners’ travel, food, and lodging will be covered by the Cultural Center. To participate, submit an essay online between January 1 – April 1 by clicking here, or by email to [email protected], or by mail to Think-Off, c/o Cultural Center, P.O. Box 246, New York Mills, MN 56567. There is no fee to enter. All are welcome to join us in New York Mills on the second Saturday in June for the live debate and to help answer the year’s question by casting your vote.
