ACCA CFO Summits are a global series of conferences and events which share personal insights and observations from finance leaders on their evolving role. At the heart of our programme is an examination of the role the CFO plays in driving world class finance transformation.

This session will focus on the approach CFOs should be adopting to pursue growth strategies looking forward to 2013. It aims to provide an overview of the key challenges and opportunities facing finance leaders as they seek to drive business performance and shareholder return, and new insights on how new tools and disciplines can help CFOs. In addition to holding and reporting all the numbers and data, CFOs now also capture opportunity out of it, integrate and transform their enterprises. This presentation will discuss how CFOs are taking advantage of business analytics to align metrics, initiatives and resources to formulate growth strategy, increase visibility into drivers of revenue, profit and working capital, evaluate the performance and shift resources to support profitable growth areas, improve insight and responsiveness to the external and internal risk impact on profits, balance sheet and cash flow. What are the key governance regulations and issues that CFOs in Asia should be aware of? To what extent does governance affect a firm’s value? And how do standards in Asia compare to global best practices?

HELEN BRAND, OBEChief executive ACCA

Welcome address

Helen Brand is chief executive of ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), the global body for professional accountants.

Under Helen’s direction, ACCA offers business-relevant, first-choice qualifications to people of application, ability and ambition around the world who seek a rewarding career in accountancy, finance and management.

Helen has built her career in professional accountancy bodies. Prior to joining ACCA in 1996 as head of international development, she had risen to become director, international affairs at the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), an organisation she joined direct from university in 1987.

During her career at ACCA, Helen has gained a broad strategic and operational knowledge of the global accountancy body, firstly leading ACCA’s corporate development team; becoming chief operating officer in 2002; managing director – operations in 2004, before becoming managing director – strategy and development, in 2007.

Helen has a keen focus on key global relationship management for ACCA, and is particularly interested in the development of the accountancy profession in emerging economies. She has considerable experience and knowledge of the 170 markets in which ACCA currently operates, and has worked closely with IFAC (the International Federation of Accountants) in an advisory capacity.

Helen is also a member of the Prince of Wales’ Accounting for Sustainability Supervisory Board which works to ensure that integrated reporting is embedded in organisations’ DNA.

Helen was awarded an OBE in the June 2011 Queen’s Birthday Honours list for services to accountancy.

SCOTT GOODWINCFO, software group, growth markets unit IBM

Tomorrow’s CFO today – 2013 and beyond: Driving finance transformation through business analytics

Scott Goodwin is IBM’s software group growth markets CFO, based in Shanghai, China. Scott oversees IBM’s software business in all growth market territories, including Australia/New Zealand, Greater China, Asean, Korea, India/South Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East/Africa, and Latin America.

Prior to his growth markets assignment in January 2011, Scott had specific Greater China responsibilities for the IBM software business for 3.5 years, and before that he was the IBM China development laboratory controller.

Before moving to China in early 2006, Scott was based in Boston, Massachusetts, and held a variety of positions in financial planning and analysis, accounting, business controls, and internal audit within IBM and other multi-national companies. Throughout his career, Scott’s responsibilities have had a significant international emphasis, with many short assignments to Europe, Latin America, and Asia.

Scott holds a masters degree in finance from Boston College, and a bachelors degree in accounting from the University of Arizona. Scott is a Certified Public Accountant.

Session 2: Finance leadership – a new role for a new age

Chun Wee is ACCA’s head of policy for Asia Pacific. He is tasked in his role to drive new research initiatives that will add value to the business community and the profession across Asia Pacific especially in key markets such as Singapore, Malaysia, China and Hong Kong. He works closely with stakeholders and organisations in key markets to identify opportunities where ACCA can contribute to the agenda of the region in relation to accounting and business.

Prior to joining ACCA, Chun Wee was with the Professional Practice Department of a Big Four accounting practice in Singapore, where he focused on audit methodology and policy, and regularly delivered internal and external trainings on auditing and quality assurance matters. He also has more than a decade of experience in public accounting in Singapore and has worked in audits of and special assignments for multinationals and local listed companies.

Jamie Lyon, head of corporate sector at ACCA leads ACCA’s global research and insights programme on finance transformation with a particular focus on finance effectiveness, the evolving role of the finance function, the emerging role of the CFO, finance delivery models through shared services and outsourcing, finance talent development and the finance learning agenda.

He regularly contributes to a wide number of accounting, finance and outsourcing publications and other media channels such as Finance Director Europe, CFO World and Outsource Magazine.

Prior to ACCA he spent over a decade in industry working in finance for a number of FTSE 100 businesses in the UK and internationally.

Session 3: The big conversation – transformation for value

Holger Lindner is a member of the Advisory Council to the Singapore CFO Institute.

The Singapore CFO Institute seeks to be a leading institute for excellence, thought leadership and professional development for CFOs in Singapore and Asia Pacific. As a thought leader, the institute brings insight to the role and value of CFOs.

For the past six years, Holger had been the chief financial officer of Daimler South East Asia Pte. Ltd., the Importer and Distributor for Mercedes-Benz vehicles to Singapore and 10 emerging markets in South Asia and the Pacific and the Regional Spare Parts Logistics Hub for Asia Pacific excluding China. In recent years, the entity had emerged as well as services hub for IT, treasury, HR, and financial services for most countries in Asia Pacific.

Holger’s responsibility as director and member of the management team comprised accounting, controlling, performance management, transfer pricing, compliance, tax, finance, administration, procurement, and IT. He also acted as the chairman of the Residual Value Committee for captive finance products offered by the Daimler Group in Singapore.

From 2002 to 2006, Holger was the head of sales & marketing for Mercedes Car Group in South East Asia, Taiwan and Korea.

Previous assignments include start-up operations in Vietnam, turn-around activities in the Netherlands, and being the head of staff of the Chairman’s Office for Daimler Services AG in Berlin.

Holger graduated in Aeronautical Engineering from Stuttgart University in Germany and Ecole Centrale Paris in France which included intense exposure to Business Management and Finance.

NORMAN SzEManaging partner, consulting Deloitte China

Session 3: The big conversation – transformation for value

Norman has held the position of partner in various firms for the last 15 years. His area of competence is operation consulting and finance transformation within the banking sector. Major clients include BOC, CDB, Bocom, CCB, Cinda, CEB and CMB.

He has over 20 years of consulting experience with 17 of these years in China as ‘the oldest consultant’. Prior to joining Deloitte, Norman was practice leader of Arthur Anderson Business Consulting in China and FSI practice leader of Bearing Point Greater China. He has experience in managing a SOE-converted JV and communicating with senior executives of SOEs.

In 2002 Norman helped domestic banks with their operation and risk management transformation, and was considered a pioneer in this field. He was also elected as the leading financial services consultant in China market by Euromoney. He has been a special advisor to the Mayor of Shanghai.

He holds an MBA and bachelor of social sciences in management studies, and is a fellow member of ACCA and HKICPA.

Session 4: Business and finance analytics – the art of the possible

Robert Bergström joined Accenture’s Stockholm office in 2001 and transferred to Accenture in Singapore in 2011. Robert has extensive experience in value-based Performance Management and Finance Transformation engagements with clients across multiple industries and geographies. Robert is the ASEAN Lead for Accenture’s Finance & Enterprise Performance Business domain. He also leads the offering group for Enterprise Performance Management Strategy in APAC.

Robert’s primary focus is helping client organisations address key performance management challenges and align around increasing shareholder value and stakeholder value. By working with the C-level to execute and operate processes for strategic planning, target setting and resource allocation (e.g. capital and SG&A), new capabilities are achieved and value is created.

NG BOON YEWExecutive chairman, Raffles Campus Pte LtdChairman of ACCA’s Accountancy Futures Academy

Session 5: Accountancy Futures – what’s in store for the next 10–15 years?

NG Boon Yew qualified as a chartered certified accountant while serving his National Service.

He spent 25 years with KPMG, where he, inter alia, chaired the firm’s Professional Practice Committee and headed the Banking Practice and was partner in charge of corporate finance services, before retiring as a partner of the firm. Post-retirement from professional practice, he took up the group chief financial officer position in Singapore Technologies Pte Ltd before taking on the position of executive chairman of Raffles Campus, a regional educational group based in Singapore.

He serves on the board of various listed and unlisted companies and is a member of the Securities Industry Council.

He chairs the Accountancy Futures Academy of ACCA.

Session 6: Risk and reward – strategies for success

Patrick Chan has been an executive director and the chief financial officer of the company since July 2009. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the company. He obtained a master of business administration degree from the University of Warwick, England in 1993. He is a fellow member of HKICPA, ACCA as well as the CPA Australia. He is also a member of The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and Institute of Financial Planners of Hong Kong.

Patrick started his career at Ernst & Young and worked for a number of banks and listed companies in Hong Kong. He joined Hang Seng Bank Limited (‘Hang Seng’) in 1995, of which he became chief financial officer in 1998. He also sat on the executive committee of Hang Seng, and was an executive director of Hang Seng from 2005–2009. He was previously a vice chairman of Hang Seng Bank (China) Limited, and a director, an executive committee member and a remuneration committee member of lndustrial Bank Co Ltd.

Patrick is a member of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government Scholarship Fund Investment Committee, the Investment Sub-committee of the Beat Drugs Fund Association HKSAR, Self-financing Post-secondary Education Fund Investment Committee, a council member of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA), chairman of the finance committee of the HKEAA and a member of the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research. He is also a member of the Admissions, Budgets and Allocations Committee of The Community Chest of Hong Kong and the General Committee of The Chamber of Hong Kong Listed Companies. He is convenor of the Working Group of Finance Directors/Financial Controllers of the Real Estate Developers Association of Hong Kong and a member of the Professional Development Sub-committee of ACCA Hong Kong. He is a director of Hang Seng School of Commerce, a member of the Board of Governors of Hang Seng Management College Limited, and chairman of the finance committee of both institutions. Patrick is an advisory board member of several universities in Hong Kong and a member of the Investment Committee of the Foundation of Tsinghua University Centre for Advanced Study Co Ltd.

Session 6: Risk and reward – strategies for success

James Lee, is the director of finance at Regent Singapore, a Four Seasons hotel.

He has two decades of experience in the key financial and managerial roles, and specialises in the hospitality industry.

In professional development, he was regularly invited to seminars as a speaker or moderator, and facilitated training seminars and workshops. His expertise covered flexible wage systems, hospitality financial management, strategic cost management, shared services, risk management, human capital and career planning.

He is an ACCA Council member and also serves on the Market Oversight Committee. He serves on a practice monitoring committee with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) of Singapore.

He is the charter president of Hospitality Financial & Technology Professional (HFTP) – Asia chapter and serves as honorary treasurer of Foundation of Rotary Clubs of Singapore. He is also a community mediator appointed by the Ministry of Law.

He is a fellow member of ACCA and a non-practicing member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore (ICPAS).

Session 6: Risk and reward – strategies for success

Dr Paul Mok is the group financial controller of Orient Overseas (International) Ltd (OOIL), the public company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange with over 270 offices in 60 countries.

He joined the group in 1988 and developed his career path in this group from internal financial consultant to group financial controller in 2008. Prior to joining OOIL, Paul worked with Deloitte Haskins & Sells and Chartered Bank.

Paul is a qualified accountant in the US, the UK, Mainland China and Hong Kong. He is a chartered secretary, a chartered management accountant and a qualified banker. He is also a holder of a PhD, three masters’ degrees and an LLB.

MARCO SWOBODAVice president and CFO Asia PacificHenkel

Session 6: Risk and reward – strategies for success

Marco Swoboda is CFO for the Asia Pacific Region of Henkel, based in Shanghai. He joined Henkel in 1997 in Germany as controller in corporate controlling/strategy consulting.

In 2000 he took over the position as manager corporate development/M&A at Cognis, the chemicals division of Henkel, located in the Netherlands. He left Henkel with the divestment of Cognis end of 2001, and built up the subsidiary controlling department at Cognis, which also included taking care of several financial controlling aspects related to the new private equity ownership. Subsequently he was nominated vice president corporate controlling.

In 2006 he returned to Henkel AG&Co. KGaA (Germany) as corporate vice president, where he was responsible for the Group’s subsidiary controlling, controlling of the functional units, supply controlling and later corporate planning. In 2011 he relocated to Shanghai as regional CFO heading around 400 finance staff in the region.

Marco holds a diploma in economics and business administration from the University of Bochum, Germany.

KEVIN LAuDirector Hin Yan Consultants Limited

Session 7: Corporate governance

Kevin has over 30 years of experience in corporate finance, financial advisory and management, accounting and auditing. He is currently working as a consultant in the financial advisory field. Prior to that, Kevin had worked in one of the Big Four international accounting firms for over 15 years.

Kevin is an independent non-executive director, chairman of the Audit Committee and member of several listed companies in Hong Kong. In addition, he also acts as the company secretary of one Hong Kong listed company.

Kevin is a fellow member of both ACCA as well as the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA). He also served as an ACCA Council member from 2002–2011 and was chairman of ACCA Hong Kong for the year 2000–2001.

JAMIE ALLENSecretary general Asian Corporate Governance Association, Hong Kong

Session 7: Corporate governance

Jamie Allen is the founding secretary general of the Asian Corporate Governance Association (ACGA). He is a published author and has more than 25 years’ experience as a writer, editor and analyst covering Asian business, finance and economics from Hong Kong.

Prior to the establishment of ACGA in mid-1999, Jamie acted as a consultant for multinational companies, carrying out customised research on mainly finance-related topics, including corporate governance. From 1992–95 he worked for the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) as editor of Business Asia, a regional management newsletter, and was a contributor to The Economist magazine from 1994–96. Jamie began his career in the late 1980s as a reporter for the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong.

Jamie is a graduate of the Australian National University, Canberra, where he received a BA (Honours) in political science and Chinese language. He furthered his Chinese studies during a two-year period as a student in Taiwan in the early 1980s.

From 2006–2010, Jamie was appointed to the Listing Committee of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. From 2001–2007, he served on a new advisory committee, the Public Shareholders’ Group, formed by the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission.

Session 7: Corporate governance

Arnout van Rijn, executive vice president, is chief investment officer of the Robeco Asia Investment Center as well as fund manager of Robeco Asia Pacific Equities.

Arnout van Rijn started his career in the investment industry in 1990 and has over 20 years of experience in the asset management industry. From 2003 to 2007, Arnout van Rijn was fund manager of Rolinco, Robeco’s flagship global growth equity fund. From 2000 to 2002, Arnout van Rijn worked in Hong Kong as head of the fund desk at Rabo Investment Management. From inception in 1994 until 2000, Arnout van Rijn was fund manager of Robeco Emerging Markets Equities. Arnout van Rijn held several positions in Robeco’s Equities Investments Department covering European, Asian and American markets and was fund manager of Robeco North American Equities.

Arnout van Rijn holds a master degree in business economics from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam and is registered with the Dutch Securities Institute.

CLARENCE YANGHead of corporate governance Asia ex-Japan BlackRock

Session 7: Corporate governance

Clarence Yang, is the head of corporate governance Asia ex Japan and member of the corporate governance & responsible investment team within BlackRock’s portfolio management group. He is currently responsible for integrating ESG into investment and risk management processes as well as voting and engagement in relation to the Asian (ex-Japanese) companies BlackRock invests in on behalf of clients. Clarence’s service with the firm dates back to 2005, including his years with Barclays Global Investors (BGI), which merged with BlackRock in 2009. At BGI, he was responsible for voting and engagement in relation to UK and European investee companies. In 2008 he was recognised as a Rising Star of Corporate Governance by the Millstein Center for Corporate Governance. Prior to joining BGI in 2005, Clarence worked for Greenwich Associates as a corporate finance research associate. Clarence earned a BSc degree in economics and philosophy from City University in 2000.

William Mak has been a committee member of ACCA Hong Kong since 2006. He is an assurance partner of PwC Hong Kong.

William has over 20 years of experience in providing assurance and advisory services in Hong Kong and mainland China. He has a wide background in delivering services to multinational groups based in Hong Kong and mainland China as well as serving large and multinational focused ‘Red Chip’ and ‘H share’ clients in the region. He has led various cross border initial public offerings and capital market transactions in Hong Kong. His current clients include a number of companies engaged in the retail, consumer and industrial products businesses. A significant proportion of his time is spent assisting clients with capital market related activities.

William also serves as a member of the Departmental Advisory Committee in City University of Hong Kong’s Department of Accountancy.
