AQUATICSYOUTH SWIM LESSONS
YOUTH BLOCK Age K– 8th Grade Children will be taught skills from the five components of the YMCA Swim Lesson program: personal safety, personal growth, stroke development, rescue skills, water sports, and games. We will perform a skill test on the first day of class. Your child will then be placed in a class with other students near the same skill level.
POLLIWOGThis is the beginning level for school-age children. It gets children acquainted with the pool, the use of flotation devices, and floating. By the end of this level, they should know the front, side, and back paddle, and able to swim 20 ft. without a floatation device.
GUPPYThis advanced beginner level is for children who will continue to practice and build upon basic skills. They are introduced to the front and back crawl, sidestroke, breaststroke, and elementary backstroke. Children can swim 25 yards of the pool by the end of this level without the aid of a flotation device. They should also be able to do 25 yards of rudimentary rhythmic breathing.

SAM’S STORYThe bond between a coach and his student prove to reach well beyond the practice lanes of the swimming pool and starting blocks.
“Sam has always loved the water” shared his mother. “We had given him lessons sporadically over the years, but it has always been a challenge finding an instructor who “gets it.”
“But Tom’s patient instruction, always delivered with deep understanding and engaging humor, Sam’s swimming skills skyrocketed. It was amazing to watch week after week. We had clearly shot well past the “let’s just get him safe in the water” goal; we now had ourselves a swimmer!”

JAZZAges 6 and UpJazz is a technique based in ballet using contemporary and jazz music as expressions of energy and soul. Flexibility, clean lines, turns and leaps will be emphasized. Ballet classes are strongly recommended when studying jazz dance.
CONTEMPORARYBy Placement OnlyContemporary dance is an expressive form that incorporates jazz, ballet and modern dance techniques.
