App Attack! Course Description

Take the first steps into the world of mobile app design and customize your own game app! Using a

specialized app and game development tool, students will explore the world of web-based (HTML5)

mobile apps. In addition to learning the basics of mobile app design and game development, you will

also see firsthand how the world of app publishing functions. Student-created apps will be accessible on

a private site and can be played on any mobile device or computer. Publishing to app stores not

included. Students do not need to own a smartphone or tablet to take the class. Students will work in

pairs or teams for most of the program.

If you love the game Minecraft, and always wanted to design your own world, this class is for you! Learn

how to create a custom map, the basics of creating 3D models using a new software to design your very

own objects, how to build with Redstone and Command blocks, and create custom textures for you to

import at home or share with friends. Students must own a Java version of Minecraft. Tablet, phone,

and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. Parent email address is required to use 3D

modeling software. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

Learn the basics of nutrition and get your heart pumping at a healthy rate through play. Discuss healthy

snack and nutrition options and practice exercises and games to keep you active. Students will learn why

exercise is important at all age levels and why it’s important to have a balanced diet. This camp will

meet indoors and outdoors.

Create your own large painted canvas and mount your photos on a mat board to take home! You will

learn the secrets to creating through a lot of fun activities, including a field trip to Hudson Gardens.

Embark on an EPIC adventure in virtual reality! You will learn the foundations of VR design by creating

your own virtual worlds, exploring simulated environments, and crafting memorable 3D experiences. At

the end of the week take home your first cardboard VR headset to show friends and family the new

worlds you created. VR projects can be viewed on a website or a mobile device. Students do not need a

mobile device to take the class, but to use the VR headset a camper will need access to an Android or

Apple mobile device. Students will work in pairs or teams and VR projects will be available on a

Does helping people in emergency health challenges sound exciting to you? Discover what it’s like to be

Are you ready to earn money babysitting? ACC’s Emergency Medical Services Staff will guide you

Do you like to investigate? Do you like to write stories about new things you have learned? This Junior

Did you know disc golf started with people using Frisbees and aiming at targets that were made up of

trees, trash cans, light poles, pipes and whatever else was handy? It is now one of the best lifetime

This camp is for middle school children with special needs at mild to moderate levels. You must have a

documented intellectual or developmental disability and be able to attend to personal care needs or

provide a personal care attendant. You will meet new people and spend the week learning academic

and life skills in a fun, supportive and safe environment. You will complete a new project each day

reinforcing skills which you can take with you anywhere. You will also have the chance to explore what

it looks like to be a student at Arapahoe Community College.

Emergency Medical Services Academy Course Description

Are you interested in Emergency Medicine? Experience what it is like to provide emergency care for

people who have been injured or are experiencing a medical emergency. Students will learn lifesaving

skills such as CPR, splinting, bleeding control and tourniquet application. Work with paramedics to care

for patients experiencing strokes and heart attacks. Use equipment found in ambulances to help assess

and care for patients. Learn the demands of the job, pay rates and what education is required. Camp

taught by ACC's EMS Acadmey. First Aid and CPR certification will be issued at the completion of camp.

thought patterns and structuring your work habits. Focus on simplifying your life and keeping your

attention on what is really important for your success.

Drawing for Cartooning and Manga Course Description

Do you like to draw? Learn how your imagination comes alive and discover the methods of drawing

behind cartooning and manga. Create your very own character as you discover how to convey shape,

style, color, action and humor. Discover storytelling conventions utilized by professional illustrators

while exploring the rich Japanese art form of manga and how to draw in this dynamic style.

ACC's MakerSpace Course Description

Do you like to build stuff with your hands? ACC’s Makerspace will provide a hands-on, experimental

learning space for construction management, studio art, STEM, and engineering graphics for students to

create original prototype pieces of art. The space will include woodworking tools, electronics, 3D

printers/scanners and miscellaneous hand tools. This is an all day camp.

SAT English Course Description

Reduce your anxiety about the SAT! Learn or enrich the skills needed to score highly on the SAT critical

reading and writing section. Students will be given 40 SAT words daily, as well as learn test-taking

strategies.

Our motto is “control the test” and don’t let the test control you. Cover over 50 math concepts in

Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, and Probability while learning test-taking strategies.

An incredibly useful class focusing on Self-Management skills, Verbal and Nonverbal communication,

Listening, Etiquette, and Confidence. Prepare yourself to become a functional member of the

community by acquiring the skills to be a successful person.

Easy and Fun 3D Printing Course Description

Watch your ideas come to life through 3D Printing! Join us to learn about 3D printing technologies and

how they are used. Discover different materials and print settings, slicing software and gcoding and

modifying existing designs to create your own designs from scratch. Students will be introduced to the

software tinkercad, solidworks, and autocad for 3d modeling revision and design as well as open source

model sharing websites such as “thingiverse” and “Grabcad”. Take home samples of your work to show

your family and friends!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Class Confirmations, Cancellations, and Changes Confirmations will be sent to parents via email. If there is a change in a class status or a cancellation

our office will contact you. The Workforce and Community Programs office reserves the right to

cancel a class or change the date, time, and/or location. Classes may be canceled if there is

insufficient enrollment, so please remember to register early.

Emergency Information and Consent Forms An electronic Student Emergency Information and Consent Form will be available via a link

on the welcome letter email sent to parents after the class registration has been

processed. The Student Emergency Information and Consent form must be completed and

signed prior to and/or on the first day of class. Students CANNOT attend class sessions

without a completed and signed form. If a electronic form is not completed by the time of

check in a paper copy of the Emergency Consent form must be filled out at the time of sign

in.

Student Drop Off and Pick Up First day check-in and student drop off and pick up procedures will be relayed in your welcome letter

sent to the parent email. If you have any additional questions or concerns regarding the student drop off

and pick up program please feel free to contact our main office at 303-797-5722.

Lunch Bunch Lunch Bunch offers fun and interactive lunch time supervision for students that are participating in

Summer Youth Program classes for the entire day. Elementary and Middle grade students attending a

full-day of classes must register for this program. Students in grades 9-12 are not required to

attend Lunch Bunch. The fee for Lunch Bunch is $10. Lunches are not included within this program.

Please have your student bring their own lunch in an insulated lunch box.

Visitors in Classrooms We do not allow visitors in the classes for safety and security reasons. Our staff members will be glad to

help you or you may come directly to the Workforce and Community Programs office located in room

A1215.

Drops and Refunds To drop a class and receive a full refund, call the Workforce and Community Programs office at 303-797-

5722 by noon the Wednesday before the class your student is registered for begins. Refunds will not be

made after that time.

Dates for a refund are: Classes beginning June 10 must notify the WCP office by June 5

Classes beginning June 17 must notify the WCP office by June 12

Classes beginning June 24 must notify the WCP office by June 29

Classes beginning July 8 must notify the WCP office by July 3
