If you would like to learn more about the fascinating creatures that live under the sea then this class is for you! Come and explore some of the unique animals that live around our Hawaiian islands. These interesting sea animals will come to life through literature, art, and poetry. Once a week we will hold Keiki In The Kitchen days where you will have the opportunity to create a snack that ties in with our Sea Life Unit.

Shutterbug 101 or Keiki Culinary Camp 2014: Celebrating a Year of Holidays! Grab your digital camera and let’s have some fun being SHUTTERBUGS! Shutterbugs as in “enthusiastic amateur photographers” … not insects, okay? You’ll learn the basics of photography as you create slideshows and learn how to publish a photo book of your own. Bring your own digital camera and USB/flash/jump drive and let’s get ready to capture those special moments!

Get Down to or Travel the World with the Beat Aunty Audrey Are you all about dancing to the beat? Get down with different genres of current dance songs and the technology and instruments used to make these kinds of music. Start with the basics of rhythm and song structure and move on to the synthesis of sounds. You’ll be constructing your own songs and creating your unique sounds in no time! Don’t worry, there will be lots of dancing too!

Spice up your cooking with recipes from around the world! Aunty Audrey will take you on a world tour of kitchens and teach you how to perfect dishes from different countries. Brynn Alcain holds bachelor degrees in Business Administra-tion and Elementary Education and is currently in pursuit of her Master’s Degree in Education Technology. She has completed her first year teaching 3rd grade and is a Google Apps for Education (GAFE) Pilar. She enjoys traveling the world when she’s not teaching and has a great love for learning about other cultures.

Michele Cann has been an elementary school teacher for the past 15 years and is currently working as a 3rd grade teacher. She has taught many different grade levels from kindergarten through 8th grade. Her passion for teach-ing has always been motivated by the excitement students display when they learn something new. Encouraging her students to LOVE learning is her goal!

Paula Hatanaka has been teaching pottery to children and adults for over 30 years. She has a BA in Sociology from UH Manoa, studied ceramics at Hawaii Community College for 2 years, and has attended various pottery workshops. Paula enjoys sharing her love for pottery with people of all ages and always looks forward to seeing their creations.

Misty Inouye has been teaching middle school math and science for 17 years. She’s an avid baker and home cook and has won several awards for some of her recipes. In her spare time, she loves reading cookbooks, trying out new recipes, and traveling with her family in search of more good things to eat!

Gayle Kamei is currently a math curriculum coordinator and has been a 6th grade teacher for many years. She has al-ways viewed the world through the lens of an avid photog-rapher. Digital photography is her passion and she loves to create slide shows and photo collages.

Monica Nonaka, an elementary educator for 8 years, has taught grades K-6. Her two young sons keep her very happy and busy! In her spare time, she enjoys the beach and reading. Monica enjoys sparking her students’ love for learning and what could be more exciting than learning through the magical world of science?

Winfred Onishi taught for 30 years! Besides teaching physical education, he also taught health, math, and science at the secondary level. He has coached track and wres-tling and is very active with the Boy Scouts and judo. In his spare time, Win enjoys other fitness activities like yard work and a bit of television too. He especially likes the news, ESPN, the Discovery Channel, and the History Chan-nel.

Barett Otani is a professional musician. Music is his pas-sion! He plays keyboards, synthesizer and software music sequencers, sound samplers and vocals for his cover band. When Barett’s not jamming out, he does video and audio production for a local television show and owns a distribu-tion business.

Rochelle Tamiya, a secondary educator for 16 years, enjoys teaching because of her students. She has taught 4 years of mathematics and 10 years of Life Science in the Hilo District. She has a Bachelor’s Degree and Teaching Certifi-cation in Biology. Her passion for teaching comes from the joy she receives from seeing her students develop.

Jenifer Tsuji, an elementary music resource teacher, is currently teaching pre-5 as well as after-school chorus. She has taught general music and chorus at various schools throughout the Hilo area since the early 90’s. Jenifer has also been playing the flute and piccolo with the Hawaii County Band for over 20 years.

Kelly Uyeda has been a high school teacher for 28 years. She teaches economics, psychology, and world history. Her love for sweets led her to take cake decorating classes. Her greatest cake decorating accomplishment has been a two-tiered wedding cake for her grandparents’ 60th wedding anniversary.

Cindy Veloria, an elementary special education teacher, loves doing crafts! She has dabbled in all types of crafting: needlework, paper crafts, stamping, painting and loves it all! She has a 4 year old son who currently takes up most of her crafting time but she tries to fit it in where she can. Crafting has been a part of her life as long as she can remember.

Audrey Wilson was born and raised in Hilo. After retiring, she transformed her lifelong passion for food into a new vocation, including a catering business. She headlines the weekly “Let’s Talk About Food” column in the Hawaii Tri-bune-Herald, is a guest contributor to the Food Network Magazine and has published three cookbooks. She teach-es non-credit culinary arts classes at Hawaii Community College and also teaches for the Junior Chefs program at a local elementary school.

Nolan Yamaki has taught grades 4-6 in Colorado and Hawaii. His bachelor’s and master’s degrees are from the University of Northern Colorado. His Master’s Degree is in Reading, so I guess he’s a master reader (just kidding). He’s worked as a district resource teacher and currently teaches 2nd grade. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, cooking, and coaching youth baseball.
