Walk to Emmaus – The Upper Room –
From Jerry Corbitt – President CCWTE 2013
I am finding that at this point in my life, I don’t always like that first word – CHANGE. I
can look to the past (and in my case, there is a lot of “past” to look at), and see that it took a lot
of life changing circumstances to bring me to my present “comfort zone.” The changes in life
were often difficult, but brought many positive results. But my comfort zone is comfortable – it
means no more change (which is rarely true).
This is also true of The Walk To Emmaus. I have looked at many of our CCWTE
traditions as unchangeable, and yet we (your Board of Directors) have to look at the bigger
picture and consider some changes in order to be in line with the Walk To Emmaus “National”
model. One change that the Board has decided to implement, starting in 2014, is a single Agape
Bag drop (on Friday of the Walks). This change, although uncomfortable to some, will align us
more with the WTE National model. The bags will be larger than those presently used,
expecting that the pilgrims will receive the same amount of agape letters and gifts. The time on
Saturdays, which have traditionally been used for the second Agape Drop, will still be in the
schedule as a time to read agape that has not yet been opened. This change will mean that those
on the Agape Team will be afforded a little extra free time, but the community will have to
remember to change their delivery of agape prior to the Friday drop time (or that agape,
unfortunately, will not be able to be delivered).
And now to the word ACTION. We, as a community, still have to be more “pro-active”
concerning sponsorship of new pilgrims. As I stated in the previous newsletter, good
sponsorship is imperative to maintaining a healthy Emmaus community. Make sure you attend
an area Gathering and listen to the Sponsorship Talk, in order to learn how best to be a great
sponsor. Pray about whom God might wish to be sponsored and get the paperwork into to
Marty Edman. You will be blessed, and you will also be a blessing to those going through a
Walk To Emmaus weekend.
In conclusion, my hope is that you (and I) will continue to incorporate change and action
(at God’s direction) into our lives. De Colores! In Christ Alone -- Jerry Corbitt / CCWTE
President
CHANGE and ACTION. These two words (which
are also used in two of the Talks during the
Emmaus weekend) are what I would like to focus
on in this issue of the newsletter.
Emmaus Grand Gathering 2013
SAVE THE DATE – September 14, 2013
We’re bringing back the Grand Gathering! Those of you who have been around Emmaus
for a while may remember the Grand Gatherings that were held yearly in September. Well,
we’re bringing it back this year and for those who are newer, we wanted to explain what it is.
The Grand Gathering is an annual Emmaus event that is family friendly. Please, bring your
kids! It’s a BBQ-type event where the tri-tip and drinks are provided and the community brings
the sides and desserts. We will hold the Grand Gathering at Woodward Park in Fresno at the
Riverview Shelter.
Being all together gives us an awesome opportunity to do “Emmaus business” with the
community as a whole including voting on incoming Board members. We will start playing
games (think old-school picnic games) around 3 pm, but the 4th Day Coordinators will be there
most of the day so if you want to come earlier to visit or help, feel free! Dinner will be served
at 5 pm and it will be followed by a time of worship and communion as well as the Emmaus
business. If you play a musical instrument, please bring it and play along! We look forward to
having all of you together in one place on September 14th. More information will be coming
out and an email invitation will also be sent closer to the time of the Grand Gathering. If you
have any questions, feel free to contact Simon & Hannah Molina at 559-999-9723 or
[email protected]. De Colores! – Hannah Molina

GUIDELINES
One of the magical things about Emmaus is that everyone is on the same level. Yes, you may serve once as LD, but then you go back to working on teams – and no team position is any greater or less than another.
• Sending in Work Requests early is very important. However, please keep in mind that being
qualified and sending in a Work Request does not guarantee you a spot on any team. Each position
is prayerfully considered.
• These guidelines are repeated in every newsletter as a reminder for those who may have forgotten
and for those who are new to the Community.
1. You must serve
several times on the live-in action teams (Kitchen & Agape), to ensure that you understand the entire scope of each job.
2. This makes you
qualified to serve as a Silent Table Leader in the Talk Room or as Sound Tech
The position of Sound Tech requires special training
and those individuals are considered members of the
Song Team while on a Walk. This position is also
considered equal with that of Silent Table Leader and
thus qualifies those who serve as Sound Tech to be
available to serve as a speaker or Cha-Cha.
3. This makes you
qualified to be a Designated Table Leader/Speaker or a Cha-Cha
Table leader assignments are
made with care and are given to
those who have proven the ability
to lead a group, understand
Emmaus, listen, empathize, guide
discussion and foster the
development of the table family.
4.This makes
you qualified to serve as a Core Team Boss for a live-in action team or for the Love Team
It is very, very important that prior to
being selected to serve as a boss, you have
had enough experience working in the
background to ensure that you
understand the entire scope of the job.
5. To be an Assistant Lay Director you should have progressed through steps 1-3 and have given at least one Talk
6. To be qualified as a Lay Director candidate you must have progressed through steps 1-4, given 2 Talks, & served as a Cha-Cha or Assistant LD
