Auto Tensioning Device is one of the critical component of the Overhead contact lines of the Railways. It serves both as a termination as well as provides a mechanism for the automatic tensioning of the contact lines.Tensioning is needed on the contact lines due to the variation in the lengths of the contact lines due to variation in atmospheric temperatures.Absence of tensioning would create sag or tightening of the overhead lines creating pantograph entanglement or snapping of the OHE lines. The Winch type Regulating Equipment .This is one of the earlier designs. This device has a mechanical advantage of 5:1 and creates a tension of 2000kgf using dead weights of 400kg

PULLEY SYSTEM

We have used variety of ATDs in OHE:- > Winch, > 3 Pulley( Pulley ration 1: 3), > 5 Pulley (Pulley ratio 1;5).For the sake of SS wire rope, 2 pulley was replaced by 3 pulley design.

ADVANTAGES

It helps in applying force in any direction Pulley systems rely on the relationship between load and effort. Useful for getting the drive action to happen in awkward places Mechanical advantage is defined as the ratio of load to effort. A movable pulley is a pulley that moves with the load. Increases Lifting  Distance
