Summer Backpack Program

Who is eligible:

Every child attending the summer food program. Friday, June 10th thru Friday, August 12th, 2016 Ages 1-18 Every Friday children will be provided with weekend meals. The packs come filled with nutritious, easy-to-open food that does not require stove-top cooking or refrigeration. The typical pack contains a variety of food usually including protein, fruit juices, cereal, granola bars and pudding cups.

2016 Clinic Schedule

Pre-Fishing Derby: Instructors: Gary Ginter - Semi-Pro Fisherman June 27 & 28, 2016 at Tawawa Lake at Tawawa Park 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. - Grades K-8 Participants need to bring fishing poles. Participants will learn basic ways to cast, pitch and flip fishing poles; use of basic types of lures versus live bait; basic ways to increase their fish catching ability and to tie a good knot. Also, Gary will be displaying his fishing boat that he uses during his fishing competition. Come and learn how to properly fish. Gary’s sponsors are Phoenix Boats, Strike King Lures and Cast-a-way Rod. Must pre-register by June 1st.

2016 Stories In The ParksHosted by: Sidney Parks and Recreation in conjunction with Amos Memorial Library. Offered each Wednesday from June 8 - July 20 at 11:00 a.m. Included in the 30-45 minute session will be stories and some group activities. No registration is necessary. The program schedule is as follows:

Movie DayMovie Day at the Senior Center at 304 S. West Avenue June 10th K-8 8:30 - 10:00 a.m.Popcorn will be served, bring a drink. A rated G to PG movie will be shown those days. Parents are welcome to stay and watch the moving with their children.Must pre-register by June 9th, 2016

Art In The Park Clinic: Instructor: Gateway Arts Council June 7-9, 2016 at Custenborder Field Shelter Area K-8 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Participants will make a new art project each day with the leaders from Gateway Arts Council. Must pre-register by May 29, 2015. Limited to 40 participants

Checking Out The Creek: Instructor: Lynda Adams with Soil & Water Conservation July 7th at Tawawa Park at the creek. Meet at Geib Pavilion. K-3 1:30 - 2:30 pm 4-8 2:30 - 3:30 pm Participants MUST wear tennis shoes or shoes that strap on their feet. NO FLIP FLOPS. Participants will be wading in the water and using nets to try and catch living organisms living in the water. Be prepared to get wet. Must pre-register by July 2nd, 2016.

Tennis: Instructors: Amy West and Kristy Sherman June 6-9, 2016 (with June 5 as rain date) at Lehman Catholic High School Tennis Courts Learn, improve, be competitive. For beginners, intermediate and advanced. Open to all students going into 6th, 7th, 8th, or 9th, grades. Need to pre-register by May 26, 2016. All Ages 8-9 a.m.

Explore Nature at Tawawa Park Instructors: Ranger Justin Aselage July 13th at Geib Pavilion K-6 Grade 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Learn about different types of animals, plants, trees, etc., that live and grow in Tawawa Park. Ranger Aselage will have pictures of the different types of animals, plants, and trees. The Ranger will be happy to answer any questions about the park as well.

Bike Registration by Sidney P.D. Instructors: Officer Mike McRill July 13th at Geib Pavilion K-6 Grade 9:30 - 10:00 a.m. Officer Mike McRill will be passing out bike registrations to anyone that brings in their bikes.

New 2016 Clinics:Party in the ParkHosted by: Amos Library“Party in the Park” is an active, social event for summer Li-brary Program participants and guest. Each week will feature new games, activities and a snack. The final party on July 21 will include ages K-12 in an Olympic Challenge. Attendants should wear comfortable clothes and be ready to move! No registration necessary. All Party in the Park is free of charge.

Walk in the Park Instructors: Parks and Recreation Dept.Takes steps to get fit while exploring nature in our beautiful Tawawa Park. Kids will explore different trails in Tawawa Park. Meet at Geib Pavilion in Tawawa Park. Please be sure that kids wear comfortable walking shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Kids will walk between 1-2 miles per session.

Come and learn and explore the different equip-ment. This will take place at Geib Pavilion at Tawawa Park.Grades K-5

You provide the old sheet and we will provide the arts and craft supplies and let your imagination do the rest. Be sure to wear old clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting paint on. Grades 3-8
