Coding Is The Futurepiloted it's first class

at WHS

PILOTTHE

THE COURSE RAN FOR 5 WEEKS

During this time 16 students were

introduced to programming using a

powerful objectoriented language

called JAVA.

Students enjoyed learning in a stress

free environment without the pressure

of grades.

The course covered a breadth of topics

from basics like variables to more

advanced topics such as graphics and

user events.

On the final day of class I received

feedback from my students through an

anonymous course review...

of the students said they

learned more from this class

than from other classes they

had taken recently.

(31% said much more)

of the students programmed

at home even though there

were no grades or

mandatory assignments.

62% 77%

of the students said that the

class inspired more

interest in the subject

than other classes they

had taken recently.

(23% said much more)

of the students plan to

continue coding after the

class ended.

77% 92%

was a great class."

WHAT'SNEXT?Due to the success of the

pilot I have decided to

continue and expand the

program. My goal is to

have classes in 20 schools

next summer; all with

college student teachers

like me.

Rob has been teaching Java since 1999. He provides technical training to adultsworking at technology companies like VMWare and research labs like MIT Lincoln

Labs. Along with Java he teaches C, C++, Perl, Python, PHP, and Javascript. Inaddition to his work doing technical instruction he has extensive experience

instructing teenagers as the head coach of the CSU Nordic ski team. He was namednational coach of the year in 2012. He enjoys helping people learn new skills andachieve excellence in performing those new skills. He is a graduate of Harvard

College.

I have some big plans for changes that willmake the class even more awesome!

This includes partnering with Harvard grad,Rob Bradlee, to design the course curriculum

and train new teachers.

Building a website, paying for

training and building space,

and spreading the word can

get expensive.

I still have a long road ahead

to get from where I am today

to where I want to be. Any

help in this process is greatly

appreciated.
