I'd recommend Brookline Village. It is one stop past Longwood on the D line.

There is a really cute little chocolate shop there called Serenade where they hand make all of their chocolates and there is also a Starbucks with lots of study space. It is kind a quaint little neighborhood and fun place to visit.

•ROMANTIC CRUISE ON THE CHARLES RIVER, ANYONE? MEN TAKE NOTE! You may have never known they’re there, but you can’t get much more romantic than gazing at the Boston skyline from an authentic Venetian gondola. Gondola di Venezia has two

gondolas, available by reservation for any occasion but especially popular with lovebirds who practice the Italian tradition of kissing under bridges—and men who pop the question. Luxurious amenities are also available, including roses, chocolate, and a live accordion player. Standard prices start from $99, BUT this is a magical way to surprise your girlfriend for her birthday, anniversary, or Valentine's Day.

The gondolas pick up at The Esplanade in front of the Hatch Shell. Enter The Esplanade at the corner of Beacon St. and Arlington St. (just left of Cheers and across

from Boston Public Gardens). At the light, cross the orange Arthur Fiedler Footbridge. Directly in front of you, next to the Esplanade Cafe, you'll see our green, white and gold gondola poles. Tours depart right on time, so please arrive 10-15 minutes early.

FREEDOM TRAILA walk along the two-and-a-half mile Freedom Trail is one of the best ways to get acquainted with Boston and to efficiently visit the city's bounty of historic landmarks. If you're in a hurry and in pretty good shape, you can cover the length of the trail in as little as an hour, but that won't really allow you the time to stop and visit any of the sites along the way. Your best bet is to allow three hours or more to walk the trail at a leisurely pace and see all of its Revolutionary landmarks.

BOSTON PUBLIC GARDENLocated along Charles Street adjacent to Boston Common, it is the nation's oldest botanical garden. The famous Swan Boats have

returned to Boston Public Garden each spring since they were first invented in 1877 by Robert Paget. The business, which operates from mid-April through mid-September, is still operated by descendants of the boats' inventor. When winter arrives, the pond is open to ice skaters.

FANEUIL HALL MARKETPLACEMost people know it as Quincy Market, although its official name is the Faneuil Hall Marketplace. Whatever you call it, this indoor-outdoor market is a great place for both shopping and dining.

FENWAY BALLPARKOn a sunshine-filled summer afternoon, there is perhaps no better place to be in all of New England than Fenway Park, historic home of Major League Baseball's Boston Red Sox. Baseball fans have been energized and agonized by the exploits of some of baseball's greatest players at Fenway since 1912. If you can't score tickets to a Red Sox game, look into behind the scenes tours of Fenway Park.
