SCHOOL OPENING INFO Minister of Education, Rob Fleming, has appointed a steering committee with representatives from teachers, parents, First Nations, support staff, principals and vice-principals, school boards and trustees, and public health representatives that will be active over the summer. Its mandate is to learn from best practices from March to June, identify existing/potential issues and propose solutions based on different scenarios, and support the development of parent and teacher resources. The Ministry will provide updates throughout the summer and an announcement is scheduled in August, in time to prepare for the start of school in September. Make sure to continue reading Learn to get all the latest updates.

TRANSPORTATION INFO School Bus Transportation Please stay tuned for information on the school bussing. Any questions or concerns, please email [email protected] or call (604) 855-5278 for anything to do with bussing. Traffic Flow and Safety Safety at Eugene Reimer is priority number one. It is important that all vehicles follow the traffic flow rules that are outlined in the Drop off and Parking Tips that are outlined in this document. By turning RIGHT when leaving the parking lot, you may avoid the traffic jam at Townline and Firhill. Parking – Please only stop in the marked areas to drop off and pick up your children. Do not leave your car unattended. If you must enter the school, please park in the parking lot by the gym.

GENERAL INFORMATION Supplies List and OPTIONAL Uniform Dress Code The supplies list and OPTIONAL uniform dress code is available at the school during summer office hours and on Eugene Reimer Middle’s school website: https://eugenereimer.abbyschools.ca/parents-students Lockers will not be assigned on the first day of school, therefore, it is NOT necessary for students to bring all their supplies to school on the first day. 2019/2020 Report Cards – You may request a paper report card and pick it up from the school office during office hours. Please note that digital report cards were emailed out at the end of June to the parent/guardian email address on file. Please call the school office to update this email address if required.

Closed Campus During the school year we have a closed campus for the safety and security of our students. This means that students are expected to stay on campus at all times (including lunch time), unless previous arrangements are made with the school by the parents or guardians. All visitors (including parents) to the campus are expected to check in at the office upon entering the building.

Attendance & Late Arrivals A reliable indicator of student success is consistency of attendance at school. Students who attend all of their classes all of the time experience greater academic success in school and personal success later. We will do whatever we can as a teaching community to ensure that your children are engaged in interesting and demanding learning experiences designed to arouse their curiosity and prepare them for academic and personal success after they leave Eugene Reimer Middle.

We take the tracking of students’ attendance very seriously: • Ensure that your children arrive on time to school - students who are late create disruption to the learning

environment for others and often find it uncomfortable arriving to a class when it has already begun. • Ensure that the office is notified of absences and/or lates with a phone call or a note from a parent or

guardian. Please report student absences online using “Safe Arrival” offered through the School Messenger app. • Remind your child to sign-in at the office if they come late to school. • If your child needs to leave school early for any reason please send them with a note for their teacher that can

be forwarded to the office when they leave. • If your child needs to leave school early and does not have a parent note we will attempt to call his/her home. • If you are here to pick up your child(ren) we ask that you come into the building to ensure that the child is

leaving with a parent or guardian.

Parent Involvement We welcome your involvement and participation in the life of Eugene Reimer Middle School. We have a developing tradition of parental volunteerism at our school. This is a tradition we want to continue. We also welcome your help and participation on our Parent Advisory Committee (PAC). Come meet other parents and find out how we can support our children during these important and formative years. Please contact Mr. Levings (Principal) if you have an interest in visiting the school during the instructional day and observing our learning community in action. For information about our PAC, please contact our PAC president: Mrs. L. Horner at [email protected]

Student Fees In accordance with District Policy AP-317, Student Fees: 3.3 Student Activity Fee for Middle and Secondary Schools: The student activity fee covers costs such as student agendas, guest speakers, student identity cards, school events, student recognition, student leadership, locks and locker rentals. We ask that all parents/guardians to pay their child’s fees electronically through the District's online payment system (https://abbotsford.schoolcashonline.com). Receipts are automatically available through this online account as soon as your payment is processed. Directions to set up your School Cash account are attached and we are willing to help at the office if you have any problems.

ENTRANCE Drop Off & Parking Tips

Before and After School Traffic Tips

1. NO PARKING near the main entrance gate.

2. Parking is only permitted in designated parking area.

3. Avoid picking up or dropping off during peak hours, which are between 8:15-8:25 a.m. and 2:10-2:35 p.m.

4. Do NOT leave your car unattended in the pick up or drop off area.

5. Please pull ahead as space opens up to keep the flow of traffic moving.

6. Our library learning commons is now open from 8:00 a.m.—2:30 p.m. for early drop off

7. Please consider carpooling, walking, or riding a bike to school, or setting up a designated pick up spot nearby . This will help to reduce the amount of cars in the pick-up and drop off area.

8. Staff priority is the safety of the students. Our priority is the cross walk. Be patient and drive extremely careful while in the pick-up and drop off area.

9. Firhill Drive is a single lane roadway that only permits two-way travel and is not wide enough to allow for vehicles to double up. Do NOT double up, try to pass or park on Firhill Drive at any time of day where signage permits.
