And don’t forget…God is the creator of laughter and lemonade so have friends over for lemonade and a fun game of cards. Recently I took my car into the service shop to get new spark plugs, wires

and have some fine-tuning done on it. The difference is noticeable. Before, the car was obviously not performing as well as it should. After the tune-up

the care performed much better.

We need tune-ups as well. We need a season of recalibrating ourselves to

God and his goodness in our life and slow down and enjoy the simple blessings all around us. Here are my often repeated summer tune-up ideas for people/families.

Relax – Your family is probably like most families where September through May is packed full of schedules and activities. This summer relax and soak in

God’s goodness. Read an adventure book, take long drives, have an outdoor movie night or just take some time off to enjoy God and your family.

Restore – Summer is a great time to restore your soul with some fun and laughter. Believe me, we need some of that. Life is stressful and we forget that it is good to play. Play with your kids, nieces and nephews and for those

of us married…include your spouse. And don’t forget…God is the creator of laughter and lemonade so have friends over for lemonade and a fun game of cards.

Remember – The bible says that we should not forget the Lord (Deuteronomy 8:11-14). God is responsible for the sunshine and the cool breeze. Let’s not forget Him. Find Him in your everyday experience and I encourage you to find Him in your Hillcrest experience.

by Terry Tharp Vines of Life Community Garden

We were honored to receive plants grown from seed from Ms. Megan Strasburg and her fourth grade class from Westgate Alternative Elementary.

The class donated tomato plants, sweet pepper, hot pepper, basil and other plants to the garden and they are located in the garden plots chosen for the Westside Free Store Ministries. Thank you to Ms. Strasburg and her class for

all their hard work and kind donation. We'd like to thank Dominick Anangono for educating his classmates this year concerning the garden and produce donation to the Free Store.

As the vegetable plants grow, we’ll require help caring for them. They are located in garden plots 7, 8, 9 and 10 that were selected for the Free Store. If you have questions, contact Terry Tharp.

The Garden Team also has its own lawn mower; it's a Black and Decker Cordless Electric Mower. If you are interested in mowing the lawn from time to time this year, contact Terry Tharp.

Hillcrest Baptist Women’s Ministries by Cathy Wright

Over 50 ladies, (aged 2 months to 90+ years) enjoyed the All Daughter Banquet at Der Dutchman. The theme was Relaxing in His Love. A devotional was

shared by Sonni Connett. The table decorations were designed by Keren Gosselin. The favors were decorated individual all-natural soaps. In addition, 50 of the soaps were given to the Westside Free Store to distribute to their clients

for Mother’s Day.

The next HBC women’s ministry meeting is Saturday, June 14 at 9a.m. We will

begin to discuss fall ministry opportunities. If you are contributing a quilt square, please get those to Blythe Ann Cooper as soon as possible. After the

June 14th meeting, Blythe Ann will begin instructing on us on the next stage of making the quilt. The finished quilt will be raffled at the Love Auction in November.

Quick Reminder ….

With summer and the warm weather here, please remember that there will be

more people outside and youth playing in the parking lot. Please

obey the speed regulations in the alley and be on the lookout for

children. Also, don’t forget that any valuables (or things that look

valuable) should be taken into the church or locked in the car trunk.

Pioneer Clubs Ends Another Great Year at HBC

It's hard to believe, but our 11th year of Pioneer Clubs ended this Spring.

After the final award badges were handed out and certificates of promotion and completion were given it was on to our end of the year special events.

We began with our annual hike fundraiser at Westgate Park. Over 50 people participated and raised over $200 for our club. A huge thanks to everyone that participated and donated money to this great cause. A portion of this

money will be going to help support Pioneer Clubs in other churches that need assistance in starting their own clubs.

Also we hosted our annual Pine Car Derby race. 20 cars entered and they all looked like winners! Unfortunately only 1 can win the trophy for the timed

race, but we sure had some fast and good looking cars participate this year. This year's winners for the race were 1st place Nick Davis, 2nd Natalie Horn and 3rd place went to Reagan Davis. Also, 1st place blue ribbons were

presented to the following category winners; Best Design went to Braden Lee, Best Paint Job to Van Gosselin, Most Colorful to Alyssa Thornton, Most Creative to Lydia Lee and the People's Choice went to Parker Stebens. This

event requires a lot of people to help make things run smoothly, from helping with set up and tear down, concessions, running the cars, making announcements, cheering on the racers......to ALL of you thank you very

much! I appreciate everything you do to make this a really fun event, and I know the students do as well. Congratulations to everyone whom participated. I look forward to next year's race!

Don't forget, Pioneer Clubs takes a break for the summer but will resume in

the fall on Wednesday, September 10th. Be praying for next year's ministry and the leaders. If you would like to volunteer in any capacity please contact club coordinator Stacy Lee. Happy Summer!

Congratulations to our 2014 Pine Car Derby winners Nick Davis, Natalie Horn and

Reagan Davis!

June Newsletter 2014

Summer is in full swing and that means plenty of ways for students to connect and become involved at Hillcrest!

Breakout Our middle school ministry leaves Holton Park Rec Center for the summer for plenty of fun activities around the Hilltop. On Sunday, June 8, we will meet at the Westgate Park outdoor shelter house at 3:00pm for a photo/video scavenger hunt. If you’ve never participated in one before, students are divided into teams then given a camera and a list of things to find or activities to complete and capture on film. On Sunday June 29, we will meet at Westgate Park again at 3:00pm for an afternoon of Minute To Win It games. Both of these are free events. Additional events this summer include a game night and camp out at the Christian Conference Center on Friday, July 25-Saturday July 26 and a service project and carpet ball tournament at the CCC on Sunday, August 10.

Breakthrough

Our high school ministry moves to its summer home at the Christian Conference Center (245 N. Powell Ave.) and summer hours on Sunday evenings from 7:00-8:30. Each week we will have a brief Bible study followed by activities such as sand volleyball, capture the flag, bucket soccer, and more! In June we will also be going paintballing at Splatter Park on Saturday, June 21. We will meet at the church at 10:00am and ride together. This event is open not only to students, but to the whole church and you must register by Sunday, June 14. Cost is $25 for students and $40 for everyone else, and that includes all rentals and 500 paintballs. Later in the summer the youth group will be going hiking in the Hocking Hills on Saturday, July 12, traveling north for a weekend at Cedar Point and Put-in-Bay on Friday August 1-Saturday August 2, and having a Back2School Bash on Tuesday, August 19.

Breakaway Our college small group that has been meeting faithfully every Tuesday night will change format for the summer to accommodate everyone’s busy schedules. Throughout the summer we will meet monthly for an on-location Bible study and activity. In June we will meet at the church at 1:00pm on Sunday, June 22 to play Frisbee golf and study the Sermon on the Mount. On Sunday, July 13, we will be going canoeing at Trapper John’s ($10) and we will be studying the baptism of Jesus. Our final summer event will be on Sunday, August 24 and is yet to be determined.
