Understanding and sUpporting Children & YoUth living With griefLinda Sheridan - Langley Hospice Society
This workshop is designed to provide information on how the experience of loss due to death impacts students. During this workshop, we will explore how children and youth grieve different deaths, how they grieve differently than adults, how loss and grief impact learning and what caring adults can to support them.

During the first session, we will look at assessments for the start of the school year to get to really know each student with the option of attending a second session (Sept. 29) where we will spend time analyzing and determining the way to group our students and set goals to meet their needs.

This 14-hour course is evidence-based and designed to increase awareness of the unique aspects of mental health problems in young people aged 12-24. This course has proven to increase mental health literacy, de-crease stigma and increase helping skills. Understand signs and symptoms of a variety of mental health prob-lems and disorders through a normative developmental lens.
Angela Herd, Dip.CSW, BA, DVATI, RCAT, has over 20 years of experience providing mental health education and counselling services. She is the Past President of the Board of Directors for CMHA, South Fraser and was a Youth Advisory committee member for Langley Township for five years. She has supported children, youth and adults within schools, non-profit agencies, hospitals and private practice and is the founder and owner of The Family Hope Clinic in Surrey, BC.

Dr. Paula Kluth is a consultant, teacher, author, advo-cate, and independent scholar who works with teach-ers and families to provide inclusive opportunities for students with disabilities, and to create more respon-sive and engaging schooling experiences for all learn-ers. Paula is a former special educator who has served as a classroom teacher and inclusion facilitator. Her professional interests include diff erentiating instruc-tion, active learning, and inclusive schooling.She is the author or co-author of more than 15 books and products including “Don’t We Already Do Inclu-sion?”, “From Text Maps to Memory Caps”: 100 More Ways to Diff erentiate Instruction in K-12 Inclusive Classrooms”, and “You’re Going to Love Th is Kid!”. Paula is also the director of a documentary fi lm titled “We Th ought You’d Never Ask”: Voices of People with Autism.
