By: Joyce Shulman
They say that families visit Vail for the skiing but stay forthe summer. W ith the raft of incredible summerprogramming in and around Vail Valley this season, thewarmer months are a perfect time to plan a visit.
The summer kicked off w ith the TEVA Mountain Games –the country’s largest celebration of adventure sports, music and art, plus plenty of family-friendly activities. Kids had an adventure of their own on the kids’ climbingwall, learn-to-paddle kayak pool, trying to masterStandup Paddle Boarding, bike races, a Mud Run andmore. Sound fun? The Winter TEVA Mountain Games arejust around the corner!
Festival fans danced to the beats of the BRAVO! VailValley Music Festival that took place late June throughmid-July. Aside from all great music, kids couldn’t getenough of the Instrument Petting Zoo. This free, hands-on traveling exhibit gives kids the opportunity toexperiment w ith real orchestral instruments, whilemaster students from art programs across the countryteach young kids how to play.
Last month kids ages 6-12 took part in the 3rd annualKEEN Vail Kids Adventure Race. More than 100 teams oftwo raced through an obstacle course like no other. W ith a course comprised of hiking, mountain biking, ziplining, tubing down Gore Creek, archery, balancing on aslack line over a mud pit, and more, children learned thevalue of teamwork to help them reach their goal.
