Students entering 8th and 9th grade students (a key time when students are deciding on careers)
Urban, minority students from Grand Rapids Public Schools are targeted to attend
Grand Rapids Public Schools
• Grand Rapids Public Schools (GRPS) is Michigan’s fourth largest public school district.
• It serves more than 17,000 students. • The student population represents
nearly 70 countries with 49 different languages spoken.
• A majority of children come from homes where the parents did not attend college.

sHaPe – Summer Health Activities and Professions Exploration summer camp provides students with the opportunity to:
• Explore careers in the health sciences
• Participate in hands-on activities that include laboratories and simulations
• Have a positive exposure to a college experience in a safe setting
• Encourage/model healthy lifestyles

Do the students whom attended sHaPe camp enroll in college? If so, do they pursue GVSU and a health professions career?
This data is yet to be collected from our first cohort (2010) whom will graduate from high school in 2014
