Amazing adventures await you at summer sleep-away camps!

TransportationCamp begins on the bus! This is a low cost and highly beneficial way for your camper to bond with other campers in her camp right from the start. We have two bus stops available, with one in Montgomery County, MD and one in Fairfax County, VA. After registering your camper, you will receive a detailed Parent Information Book that contains drop-off times and specific locations for each bus stops. Parents may also drive their campers to and from sleep-away camp. The Virginia bus stop will offer transportation to Camp Winona in Charles County, Maryland four weeks throughout the summer.

Financial AssistanceGirl Scouts Nation’s Capital strives to make camp available to all girls regardless of their family’s economic situation. To apply for financial assistance, first secure your camper’s space by registering for the program and session of her choice, and paying the $50 registration deposit. After registration, further information and a link to the Financial Assistance Application will be sent in the parent confirmation materials. The application and more information can be found at gscnc.org/sleepawaycamp.

Camp FacilitiesWe have glen shelters at all four camps. A glen shelter is a wooden structure with four screened sides, a wooden roof and a wooden floor. In the event of inclement weather, there are canvas curtains that cover the windows to shield the inside of the cabin. Depending on their size, glen shelters will sleep 4-6 campers.

Platform tents are located at Camp Coles Trip and Camp May Flather. Platform tents have wooden floors with a large canvas tent secured over a wooden frame. There is an extra tarp, which acts as a rain fly, over the top of the tent. Most platform tents sleep 4-6 campers.

Located in Mt. Solon, VA, May Flather offers traditional camp activities with wild outdoor adventures. Girls can push their limits with caving, climbing, archery and the challenge course; while also enjoying swimming, arts and crafts and weaving on antique barn looms. Located in Leesburg, VA, Potomac Woods offers two nights to one week in a traditional camp setting. Girls will swim, create arts and crafts, play nature

games, enjoy teambuilding challenges and more! Even the youngest camp-ers can enjoy taking aim with foam darts and water soaker, while campers 2nd grade and above can test their skills at the archery range. For girls

Fourth of July at Camp!

Join us July 2 – 7 and celebrate the 4th of July at camp! Watch fireworks under the stars at Camp Coles Trip at the Red, White and Blue Stars and Stripes Luau. Enjoy a Carnival, featuring games, face painting, donuts on a string, and snow cones at Camp May Flather. Try a laid-back pool party, with field games, red, white and blue tag, and an Independence Day scavenger hunt at Camp Winona. Or, head to Camp Potomac Woods and celebrate with “firework” painting, red, white and blue tie-dye, and a design-your-own rocket competition; as well as their once-a-summer “Fun Run” with face painting, ice cream sundaes, games, challenges, and a chorus of balloon firework poppers. We can’t wait to celebrate the holiday with you!

Junior Counselor The Junior Counselor program is for girls who have already completed a Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program and would like to further enhance their leadership skills by learning what it’s like to be a camp counselor. Junior Counselors receive training and are given opportunities to work alongside staff and lead activities. Girls must be 16 years of age or older by June 1, 2017 and must have completed 11th or 12th grade.

An application with more information is available at gscnc.org/sleepawaycamp. Applications must be received by February 1, 2017 at 12:00 PM in order to be considered for the first round of placements. If space is available, girls may apply after February 1.

Space is limited. All Junior Counselors applicants will be interviewed. Placement in the program is based on experience and is at the discretion of the Camp Director. Day and Evening CampWhether it’s your first summer as a Girl Scout or your fifth, our Summer Day and Evening Camps are

the perfect place to discover new experiences, connect with new friends and return home at the end of the day. With over thirty diverse camps sprinkled across our region, you are sure to find the

camp that’s just right for you!

While at camp, you’ll try new things, challenge yourself and gain confidence as you sing songs, play games, make arts & crafts, and earn badges. Each program is as unique as the

volunteers who run it. If High Adventure is your thing, many camps include activities like canoeing, archery and team building. Some programs even offer optional overnights and

field trips!

No matter which camp you choose, you’re sure to have your best summer yet! Visit our website to explore all Day and Evening camp programs.

VolunteerOur Day and Evening camps are run by qualified, enthusiastic, and compassionate volunteer camp directors. Parents, Girl Scout troop leaders and other qualified adults also frequently volunteer their time to help girls have a great camp experience! In most camps, full time volunteers have guaranteed entry for their campers to attend camps. Other camps may offer a reduce rate for campers of volunteers.

Who Can Attend Camp?Most of our Day and Evening camps are open to girls completing grades K-12. Check the individual camp description for specific grade requirements.

We welcome non-Girl Scouts at camp. Any girl who is not a current member is welcome to attend camp, but they must register and become a Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital member. The annual registration fee is $15. You must register 24 hours before selecting a camp, through the online events registration site, Ebiz. To register as a member, please go to our website, www.gscnc.org. If you have questions about the registration process or have problems, please email registration@gscnc.org.

Boys and preschool age children are eligible at certain camps and must be children of volunteer staff. Ages vary with each camp.

High AdventureHigh Adventure opportunities vary based on the camp, unit program and the camper’s current grade. High Adventure activities can be canceled due to weather or conditions.

PlacementPlacement is not automatic for all camps. Some camps place campers based on first come, first served, while others use a lottery system. See the specific camp’s description for more details.

Lottery – How it WorksCampers registering for a lottery camp must pay in full at the time of registration.

Paying for, and completing registration, does not guarantee the camper will be placed into the lottery. If the camper is not selected through the lottery, a

full refund will be issued only after the camper turns down the wait list. For specific dates and fees for lottery camps, please consult the individual camp’s webpage.

Camp ConfirmationsAfter registering, you will receive a confirmation email or letter. This information comes from the camp directly, so arrival dates can vary depending on lottery deadlines, closing dates and placement dates. Please refer to each camp’s description or website for more information.

TransportationBus transportation is available at some camps. See each individual camp description for specifics. For camps that do not offer transportation, arranging a carpool with fellow parents is strongly recommended.

Financial Assistance Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital strives to make camp available to all girls regardless of their family’s economic situation. Financial assistance is available for one day or evening camp per camper per summer.

To apply for financial assistance, please go to www.gscnc.org/dayandeveningcamp and click on the financial assistance link to fill out the request. Requests must be submitted at least ten business days prior to the date you would like to apply for camp. Financial Assistance applications are reviewed on a rolling basis every ten business days. You will receive an email only after the request is reviewed and approved. The email will contain a code to use when applying for camp. If you have more than one camper, please complete a separate request for each child. All application information is confidential.

Leadership for TeensTeen Girl Scouts are encouraged to participate in leadership roles at Day and Evening camp. Depending on the camp, there may be opportunities for teens to serve at Aides or Aides in Training (AIT). Consult the individual camp’s description for details on requirements. Camp Aides and AITs must be available for all required trainings. Trainings, and training dates, vary from camp to camp.

Remember, camp sessions fill up very quickly. We receive a large number of phone calls and emails on opening days of registration. Please check your account information at least 24 hours prior to the opening day to test your account.

Log into your EBiz account at www.gscnc.org• If you have previously registered your camper for

camp or for a Council event, your login has remained the same.
