What is Summer Bridge? Summer Bridge Program consists of academic
enrichment, project-based learning, and team building activities in order to prepare incoming freshmen for the rigor and culture of our college preparatory environment. The Summer Bridge Program is MANDATORY for all incoming 9th grade students.
The Summer Bridge Program runs from June 29, 2015 thru July 29, 2015, 7:30 am – 1:45 pm daily, including lunch. (No program on Friday, July 3rd ).
Students are exempt from attending the Summer Bridge Program for one of the following two reasons only: Have cleared alternative summer enrichment
plans through the Summer Bridge Coordinator; or
Being mandated to attend summer school at current school in order to be promoted to ninth grade.

Program OverviewSummer Bridge has one goal:
To prepare motivated and talented middle school students who wish to enrich their academic knowledge base as they enter and thrive in an academically challenging high school.
Summer Bridge will provide academic enrichment in the following content areas:
Algebra or Math Lab
Literary Genres or Reading Lab
Biology
Freshman Seminar
MAP Data• Baseline data for Math and Reading• If your child scored below 9th grade, he/she will
have an opportunity to take it again on July 23.• Data will be used to determine the courses
he/she will take in the fall.• Advanced: AP World History, Honors Literary
Genres or Honors Algebra/Geometry• Selected students: AVID courses and BUILD• Below grade level: Math lab, Reading lab, and
Language• GLE – grade level equivalency; example: 9.3 –
Ninth grade and 3 months.
• If your child successfully completed with an A or B in Algebra in the 8th grade and scored proficient or advanced on the MAP assessment, your child may enroll in Geometry as a 9th grade student.
• If your child successfully completed with an A or B in Spanish 1 in the 8th grade, your child may enroll in Spanish 2 as a 9th grade student.Bring in your child’s final 8th

• Morning meetings will be ran by students starting the 2nd week of the program.
Knights Cafe• Lunch: 11:15 am – 11:45 am• Free Lunch is offered daily• Students may bring a lunch, we do have microwaves
available• Students must select their assign seat by July 2nd . • Students can earn PBIS points in the café for a
“special” lunch.
• Cafeteria culture will be discussed on the 1st day.

• If your child has an IEP or 504, we must receive it a copy by Friday, June 26th so we can properly accommodate your child this summer and during the school year.
• Records Request form is in your folder.
Attendance Policy3 unexcused absences = Dismissal from program3 tardies = 1 absence
• Arriving after 8:00 am is considered late. Late students will be logged into the tardy tracker. Should a student arrive late due to circumstances beyond their control will be handled on a case by case basis. Parents and Guardians will be contacted to verify all tardy excuses.
• Students who have early dismissal will need to submit a note from a doctor or the parent/guardian in order to be dismissed. We will not dismiss any student without a note and without verifying the note with a parent/guardian that we have on file. Student’s can return after appointments are completed. Please report to the front office to pick your child. The front office will contact the Summer Bridge office to release the child.
• If you are enrolled in SYEP, arriving late will affect your pay.
Uniform Policy• Solid White Polo Style Shirt (no logos except
Friendship Public Charter School or Collegiate Academy logos)
• Khaki colored slacks or trousers; knee skirts or jumpers at or below the knee (no jeans, cargo style, no yellow or dark brown colors)
• Solid Black Belt (no studs, designs, multi colors, large buckles)
• SOLID from top of shoe to sole of shoe BLACK Soft Bottom/Casual or Dress Shoe (no tennis shoes, work boots, sandals, flip flops, crocs, slippers, wedges, pumps, two-tone, colored laces)
• ID Must be worn at all times, no exceptions• Other things to know about our uniform policy:• Shirts must be tucked at all times (no folded, hanging,
partially tucked shirts)• No Hats, scarves, caps, skull caps, neon hair colors• Bags must be the 8 ½ by 11 inches (the size of a regular
piece of paper )or smaller• Jewelry must be modest. Earrings must be the size of a
quarter or smaller. • Socks should be solid black or white or navy (no colored
socks, multi or pattern style)• No flower or colorful headbands, only blue, black or white
