Term 6 2017/18 News in School 20th July 2018 Summer Arrives Summer has certainly arrived and the weather seems more continental than a typical British Summer. Wherever your travels, we all wish you fine weather and a lovely time. It is that time of year where we say good-bye to our year sixes. They will be missed as they go on their separate educational journeys. We all wish them every success in the future and hope that they leave with fond memories of their time at St.Bartholomew’s. We welcome fifteen Reception children at the start of their educational travels. We hope that they will settle in well and I look forward to meeting them and getting to know all their individual ‘quirks’ that make my job such a pleasure. Wishing you all good health and happiness. Summer Arrives

Summer has certainly arrived and the weather seems more continental than a typical British Summer.

Have a wonderful half term holiday and we all look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 4th September.

We held our annual Celebration Assembly on Friday 13th July during which we present tro-

phies to the following: Charlie Hibbard (Academic Most Improved), Jacob Carrington (KS2

Overall Academic Achievement), Alfie Elwes (KS1 Overal Academic Achievement), Ewan

Dragota (Academic Achivement—Science), Roxie Lee (Arts), Kajus Ramsas (Music), Evie

Morris (Sports), Ben Fisher (FanTasTic [values]) and Charlie-Mai Thomas (Reception Super-

star). Congratulations, to you all and keep up the hard work.

On Monday 16th July we held our annual Attendance and Team Point Assembly during which

the nine children were award 100% Attendance badges to acknowledge 100% attendance

during the whole of 2017-18 academic year. A huge congratulations to: Esme Gough, Tobias

Fulep, Charlotte Huddlestone, Pippa Carlin, Alfie Elwes, Casey Robinson, Gwilym Gough, Faith

Robinson, and Harry French. Star Reader badges were also present to eight children who

had read every night during 2017-18 academic year. A huge congratulations to: Ashley Bos-

well, Joseph Marston, Alfie Elwes, Phoebe Stoodley, Phoebe Barker, Vilius Giastautas, Oliv-

Class News Apple Class This term has been a very busy term for Apple Class. We have been learning about under the sea creatures

and the children have had so much fun this term! They have enjoyed using the beach role play area, soaking

up the sun in both outdoor areas as well as meeting our new friends who will start school in September. The

children visited Hunstanton as a reward for winning £5,000 towards school trips with their ‘Staying Safe in the Sun’ competition entry. The children concluded the term with a ‘Beach Ball’ where they played lots of games,

listened to music, ate party food and won some fabulous prizes.

We hope you all have a lovely

Summer holiday – Miss Can-

non, Mrs Beresford and Mrs

Robinson

Palm class What a busy term we have had in Palm Class filled with so much fun and sun! It has been an absolute joy to

watch the children enjoy being outside with this glorious weather and swimming in such warm water in the

pool.

The children have absolutely loved our Under the Sea topic. We have made in-

formative Sea Creature Posters, painted the most beautiful seascapes with wa-

ter colours, completed research projects, studied the Rainbow Fish and Finding

Nemo to inform our writing.

In Science the children completed an investigation about water where they had

to explore objects floating in salt water – we had such fun and the children were

surprised by many of their findings.

Music Extravaganza: A special thanks to all parents and carers who came to support

the children at the Music Extravaganza, it was the best turnout we have ever had! It meant so much to the children be able to showcase all of their hard work to such a fabulous audience and weren’t they absolutely

incredible! These events would not be as successful or even possible without your continued support. Thank

you, Miss Cox

Film Club: The Greatest Showman is the next big film to be screened at film club (Thursday 6th September) and is open

to Year 1-6. Please remember to return your reply slips to the office in good time to ensure that we can provide adequate refresh-

ments (30p each) . Many thanks.

Football: I would like to thank each and every parent and carer that has supported the School

Football Teams from KS1, right the way through to Upper KS2. Each team has developed and improved dra-matically over the course of the year and have played with outstanding team-spirit, confidence and determi-

nation. Without your support, commitment and the willingness to transport children to away matches none

of this would be possible. An extra special thanks go to Mr Ferris, Mr Shawley and Mr Melson for training

the teams this year. Here’s to many more sporting successes to come. Miss Cox

Oak Class This term, Oak class have continued to learn all about the Ancient

Greeks. The children have focused on exploring a range of designs on

Greek pots and vases and creating designs of their own. They learnt that

the designs usually told a story such as a Greek myth or a scene from a

famous battle.

After the children designed their pot, they had to use clay to mould and shape it carefully

to recreate a Greek pot. The children used a range of clay tools to etch out their designs.

Once they had finished, the clay pots were left out in the beautiful sunshine to dry. The

last stage was to decorate their pots with paint, being careful to use the correct colours,

which the Ancient Greeks used. Oak class really enjoyed making them. Check out the Oak

class web page for a photo of the finished products!

Cool KIDS Club continue to provide be-fore and after school care. Please contact them di-rectly on 07944 289030 if you would like to use the service or visit the school website and complete the booking form.

Willow Class Willow Class had a fabulous time presenting their singing, dancing and acting skills with their friends

and families. They retold the story of ‘Porridge’ where Jack Spratt (played by Edan Compton) investigat-

ed a spate of unsolved crimes in ‘Happy Valley’. The

children thoroughly enjoyed retelling the tale of mystery and mayhem and thoroughly entertained

everyone with their fabulous singing, witty jokes

and puns. Every member of the class pulled togeth-

er and produced an amazing show with a cast of

crazy characters including barmy billy goats, loopy lumberjacks, a potty police squad and a runaway

cow (played by Mr Shawley).

Headlice

Please take the time over the holiday to check

your child’s hair for headlice and treat as neces-

sary. A whole school ‘attack’ on this common nui-

sance can be very effective when carried out

over a school holiday. We have had a number of

instances of headlice reported to us in school

but unfortunately we have to rely on parent vigi-

lance and commitment to checking for and treat-

ing headlice in order for outbreaks in school to

be reduced. Please help us to reduce outbreaks

of this common nuisance in school by checking

your child’s hair weekly and treating if required.

Please help the office out! Please ensure that you check your emails, text messages and/or book bags daily for correspondence sent home from school. Please remember that school letters are also available on the school website. Also, please check out the school Facebook page which will be updated regularly.

Please ensure that all reply slips and payments are returned to school in your child’s named plastic zip wallet. If you have lost the original wallet please contact the office for a replacement. Also loose change cannot be accepted at the office, please ensure when paying monies directly to the office it is sealed in a named envelope.

Thank you for the music Violin, keyboard, recorder & piano lessons will continue next term. Please

contact the office if your child is interested in taking up these lessons.

PTFA Congratulations and a huge thank you to the PTFA for their fantastic fundraising efforts re-cently on behalf of the children at the school. The Summer Fayre raised £1,500 which is a magnificent achievement. As well as this, the PTFA have organized and ran the leavers disco, purchasing ‘hoodies’ and leavers gifts for our year 6 children; provided refreshments at the sports day and supported the running costs of the swimming pool—meaning, once again, we are able to offer this to parents free of charge.
