Music Together- NEW!Families come together to sing, dance, chant, and play musical instruments. Did you know that all children are musical? Have you ever wondered what you can do to nurture the musical growth of your child, regardless of your own musical ability? The program, which meets for ten 45 minute sessions, is designed for children ages birth through kindergarten and the grownups who love them. Our Music Together® classes build on your child’s natural enthusiasm for music and movement and is based on the premise that all children have the innate ability to learn music as a language. Music Together classes bring parents together to sing and move with their children to a rich, balanced vocabulary of music with tonalities and rhythms from around the world. It is through the special relationship that you have with your child that a love of music and music making is learned. COME AND DISCOVER THE JOY OF MAKING MUSIC TOGETHER WITH YOUR CHILD!!!Instructor: Lanie has been singing, dancing and making music for as long as she can remember. She became a registered Music Together teacher in 2017, shortly after her son was born and she became especially interested in childhood musical development and cultivating joy as a life-long habit through song and movement. She has over 10 years of experience as a teaching artist, leading programs in theatre arts and visual arts. She has several professional theatre design credits to her name, and especially loves working with children’s theatres. Lanie has also been a children’s party entertainer for over a decade, performing at over 1000 parties in the Bay Area, and (of course!) leading children in song and movement at every opportunity. After a brief period in southern California, she is delighted to be back up north, where she is happy her son, Liam, can get a feel for the country life near Petaluma.

CLASSES

Learn to Speak Mandarin- NEW!This introductory program is designed for students who are curious about how to use pinyin as a tool to read Chinese characters. Pinyin helps students to learn the accurate pronunciation of each character. Every pronunciation has a pinyin (initial+final) and a tone. The same pinyin initial-final combination with different tones may have different meanings, therefore students will not only practice the pronunciation of each character, but will also learn to say each tone accurately. This course will provide students with the fundamental tools they need to begin studying Mandarin and will give them opportunities to build confidence in speak-ing a new language.

Learn to Write Chinese Characters - The Creativity of Chinese Characters- NEW!There are more than fifty thousand Chinese characters, but you only need to know about 3,000 characters to be considered liter-ate. 3,000 characters might still sound daunting, but these 3,000 characters are grouped according to their common components, known as (bùshou: radicals). Once students know the radicals and the basic components well, they will find that recognizing, remembering, and writing characters is much easier than they thought. This course is designed for students who have already learned pinyin, and would like to begin to learn the characters of Mandarin. Students will learn how to pronounce, read, and write common radicals in it.
