Mission Trip for FAMILIES with middle schoolers At BFSM we talk a lot about the importance of family. We recognize that in order to grow as a family, you should have the opportunity to serve as a family. We also know that taking an entire week to do so is really challenging on the schedule. So we came up with a plan. A long weekend to get away, serve locally, be encouraged through worship and teaching, and have some free time with other families. The Middle School Family mission trip will focus on serving God locally (Tacoma to Seattle) to inspire your families live a life a service year round. This trip is designed to encourage families to serve to-gether and get to experience teachable moments within serving to-gether. Have you dreamt of getting your family involved in what God is doing in the Northwest? Maybe you didn’t know where to start or who to partner with. This weekend mission trip could become a year-ly tradition that spring boards your family into action! Who can go? Essentially if your family includes a middle schooler, you can go! That is, if you have at least one child going into 6th grade, just finishing 8th grade, or anywhere in between. We are going to open it up to Middle School siblings ages 9 and up (even high school siblings!). Unfortunately 8 years and under will need stay home. It is our hope to get the whole family! However, our ministry partners do have some age limits and there is no childcare provided during the weekend. We will have focused break out sessions for parents, teens, and children in the evening programs.

Meeting dates Mission trip training meetings will be held after church on Sundays. These dates are listed below. Please note specific payment deadlines. Also, keep in mind to pack a lunch as the meetings will take place 12:30-2pm.

Cost Believers Fellowship cares about the next generation. Seriously. They literally put their money where their hearts are and help the Students by making opportunities to grow in their faith! This is clearly seen in student missions. Believers Fellowship not only supports the Gala (which raises around $20,000) but also supports us out of the general missions fund. All of this support means that the out of pocket cost for participants on these trips is cut! So although going on a mission trip sounds “expensive” it is within reach be-cause of the support we have.

The “actual” cost of the FAMILY mission trip is $190 per person.

But the out-of-pocket cost will be around $95 per person. Praise God!! This covers: Transportation, training material, on-trip devotional, Food, 3 nights lodging, work projects, T-shirt.

Fundraising requirements In order to keep the cost reasonable, we do have a few requirements...we work as a team to put on the Gala Auction! Working as a team means that the students decorate, set up, clean up, serve at the event, and FIND AUCTION ITEMS from our community! This is important! The more work you do ahead of time, the better! Each student is required to put together two auction packages. Please refer to the Gala Info Packet for your guidelines on how to put together a great package!

Our ministry partners Northwest Harvest: This ministry out of Kent has become a distribution hub for local food banks. BFSM has been partnering with them for years to spend a few hours working to make a big difference in feeding local families. TRM makes it easy to get involved in fighting homelessness in our city through education, meals, and shelter. Where are we staying? We are staying at Black Diamond Camp in Auburn.

When looking into a family mission trip, we wanted to stay local, but get away. The area of Auburn is perfect for just that! We will be staying in a lodge with room for up to 90 people! If we max out we will overflow to cabins at the camp! Each room has bunk beds for 4 to six people, perfect for families.

Because we are at a camp, we get access to “camp fun” during free time. They have an indoor heated pool for the kids to play and the parents to visit! They have typical camp activities that you can see on the next page.

When thinking about mission trips, we also want to take advantage of some group development. The camp has several different high and low element activities that are designed for team building. They encourage groups to work together to achieve a goal. Group development is completely customizable to our group; meaning we can work on communication, trust, or getting to know each other!

You can check out more about Black Diamond Camp on line at blackdiamond.org where you can find more information about where we will be staying.

Available activities for free time Priced per person.

Archery Tag- A fun outdoor activity that consists of two teams with bows and arrows (the arrows have rubber padding on the ends) and each teams goal is to get the other opponents out by shooting and tagging them with their arrows! Kinda like laser tag, but with bows and arrows. -$10 per person.
