Are you on Schedule with the Membership ID Picture Retake? When the Club instituted the Membership Picture ID’s a picture retake schedule was

developed so that your picture will be updated every four years. Children can choose to have their pictures retaken more often. It is important to keep your picture current so that no confusion will occur at any of the amenities. ID badges are now scanned at the amenities and your picture will be displayed on the monitor so it is even more important to keep your picture current. The Club encourages Members with last names starting with E through K to stop by the Administrative Offi ce to have your picture retaken at your convenience. To avoid delays in picking up your 2015 Membership ID Cards, have your picture retaken this summer. Yes, if you have been diligently following the schedule this will be your second retake. The last time your picture was taken was in 2011.

All other Members who have not had their pictures retaken are requested to stop in the Administrative Offi ce as soon as possible.

Please remember the importance of carrying your ID badge with you at all times. The summer season brings in many new faces and all Team Members are instructed to check badges. Please do not be insulted to show your badge.

Clubhouse Reservations and Member IDs

Dining at the LNCH has grown in popularity over the past years and will continue to do so throughout the season. This is attributed to the great job the Clubhouse Staff is doing both in the kitchen and in the dining areas. With this in mind, please be advised to make your reservations early so that you receive the desired time. Also understand that only a certain number of reservations can be taken for each time slot so there may be occasions when your preferred time is unavail-able. Please note that the Club does not take reservations for the Grillroom or the Outdoor Deck, and also on spe-cial Buffet nights like “Pasta Night”. There is frequently a waiting list for these areas and dates.

The Lake Naomi Clubhouse recep-tionist will be holding your reserved table for only 15 minutes past reserved time. Late reservations past the fi fteen minute grace period will be put on the waiting list for seating, so please stay in contact with our front desk by calling 570-646-2866 if your plans change.

Also remember that there is a dress code in the Clubhouse; Members are encouraged to refer to page 37 through 40 of the 2014 Leisure Service Guide for additional guidelines.

As at all of the other Lake Naomi - Timber Trails amenities, the Lake Naomi Clubhouse Hostess or greeter will be checking Membership Identifi -cation Cards before you are seated, so please help us in helping you to keep the Lake Naomi Club private. Your un-derstanding is appreciated.

Family Sailing Tailgate Party The Sailing Instructors and Committee are host-

ing a Family Sailing Tailgate Party in honor of the Junior Regatta on Friday, August 8th from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Club Beach. Families are invited to kickoff the big weekend of Junior racing with socializing, fun and the ever pop-

ular kayak relays. Members can bring dinner to the beach that evening, which is not a regular Club policy. Although the picnicking on the beach policy will be relaxed for this event, the NO GLASS policy will not. Meg Whitney Memorial Fun Race

The Lake Naomi Sailing Association is proud to announce The Meg Whitney Memorial Fun Race will be held for a fourth year, kicking off the NRPT (Not Ready for Prime Time) sailing season on Saturday July 5, 2014 at 2:00 pm.

All Club Members, regardless of experience, are invited to participate in this race hon-oring the memory of Meg Whitney and the heritage of sailing at Lake Naomi. Meet other sailors, have fun and stay after the race for the awards presentation.

You may sail in the race either by yourself or accompanied by one of Lake Naomi’s sea-soned sailors. If you wish to participate and don’t have your own boat, the sailing offi ce can arrange one for you. Registration for the race will take place through the sailing offi ce at Club Beach starting on June 21st and will continue up until the morning of the races.

Sailing was one of the fi rst organized activities on Lake Naomi with the fi rst race on Labor Day weekend in 1951. Meg Dening Whitney was one of 5 sailors determined to sail that day and contin-ued doing so in her Duster in practi-cally every race, every summer for 60 years before being stricken with brain cancer and passing away in December of 2009. During her sailing years she was responsible for setting up the fi rst formal program to teach sailing to ju-niors, beginning in the 1960’s. She al-ways remained a willing volunteer for sailing sharing her passion and serving

as an inspiration to all types of sailors. Meg Whitney is remembered by her fellow sailors as a strong competitor who also had a lot of fun… this is exactly why this NTRP special event was created to celebrate and spread her love of sailing.

2014 Sailing AssociationLake Naomi Club’s Sailing Associ-

ation (LNCSA) annually elects Mem-bers to serve as the Sailing Council which acts as the core of the Sailing Committee and assists with sched-uling and preparing sailing regattas, events and programs for the Lake Naomi Club. Golf Course Evacuation As we all know, summer storms can

blow up on us in a hurry when we are on the golf course. To help keep every-one safe and dry the golf pro shop will sound an air horn to advise golfers of inclement weather. The staff will blow three long blasts with the air horn as an advisory to leave the course due to incoming bad weather. This includes rain, thunder, lightning and high winds. On Tee Box #6 is a Lightning-Rain Shelter for your safety if you get caught in a storm.

Tin Cup TribuneSummer is here! Thanks again to everyone who

participated in our Memorial Day Tournament. We had 38 players partake and had a great day of golf. If you haven’t had a chance to check out our new driving range stop by and hit a few! Todd Moyer and his crew did a great job building the aqua range and it’s been a huge success.j g g g

Golf Tip of the Month - How to adjust for an uphill lie:• The ball is going to go shorter, higher and left. • The tendency is to hit the shot fat or take too much earth.• Adjust the shoulders to match the slope of the hill and put

the ball up in the stance, remember to choke down and swing slightly harder to adjust for the added loft.

LN-TT Breast Cancer Rally Update

We are getting closer to our Lake Naomi-Tim-

ber Trails Breast Cancer Rally. We are excited about the events that make up our rally. We want to encourage as many families as we can to join our 5K Walk/Run. This event is open to every-one; men, women and children. It will be held in the Pinecrest Community, a beautiful venue and as with our golf and tennis events, all the money goes to the Linda Creed Breast Cancer Or-ganization and stays here in the Poco-nos. Registration forms are available at the Logan Steele Community Center and the Administration Offi ce.

We are encouraging sponsorship in our “Pink Pages” section of our sponsor book and we have many openings for people to dedicate and/or sponsor holes, courts and water stations. Please con-tact Eileen Chimerine at [email protected] or Holly Lehrer at [email protected] to advertise in the “Pink Pages” and Judy Balaban at [email protected] for dedications.

Don’t forget the dinner and auc-tions (silent and live) at the Lake Nao-mi Clubhouse the evening of July 17, 2014. Reservations can be made online or at the Administration Offi ce.

As always we are appreciative of helpers. If you are interested in helping us with this very worthy cause, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We need workers of all abilities.

We thank you in advance for your support. By supporting us, you are helping local women who are literally fi ghting for their lives.

For the fi fth year the Lakes Committee will provide fi shing lessons to our young Members. Many Members who never had the opportunity to learn how to fi sh have been asking for fi shing lessons for their children ages 5-13. The fi rst class will be Thursday, June 26th and offered every Thursday from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM during July and August. This is a perfect opportunity to introduce the great sport of fi shing to your chil-dren. Sign-up for these classes will be at the Community Center and it is limited to fi ve children per class. They will learn the technique of baiting a hook, reeling in a fi sh and the proper way to release the fi sh without harm.

Community Garden ProgramIn addition to our Community Gar-

den Boxes, LNC will offer a Garden Program.

Scheduled sessions may include crafting, food tasting, hands on garden-ing, and an instructional lesson with master gardener guest speakers. All Members are welcome to attend the garden program regardless of whether they currently have a patch. There is a $15 fee for each session. Current gar-den box holders will not be charged.

LNC Garden Programs & EventsBotany for Gardeners June 28th at 10 AM Different plants have

different requirements. Knowing what plants need and how they work will make you a better gardener. We’ll discuss germination, fertilization, fl owering and seeds, growth seasons, and a variety of other topics. This session will help you understand many of the problems/questions that you have about why some plants work and oth-ers don’t in your garden.

In a Pickle! - July 19th at 10 AM Lets take all those extra veggies

and learn how to make simple pick-led mixes from garlic & dill, bread & butter to sweet & savory. All supplies and recipes will be available for you to make and take home samples of pickles that you made.

Harvest Party August 9th at 11:30 AM – 12:30 PMThe end of summer is near and it is

time to gather with friends for great conversations, games with prizes and delicious food prepared by our gar-deners. Everyone is encouraged to bring a sample of something made from their bounty along with a card describing your dish.

LN-TT – Greener Than We RealizeA homeowner stopped while I was planting fl owers at the Gatehouse and asked where do

I buy that nice dark soil? To which I responded, “you can’t buy it, you have to build it.” And I will never forget the look on a Member’s face when he asked what kind of fertilizer I use? As a Member of the Lakes Committee, he was concerned about phosphates leeching into the lake. I told him I do not use fertilizers, and with a look of disbelief, he asked how do I keep everything looking so beautiful? I build life into the soil, and the plants feed on that. It’s a soil food web - that eat and be eaten world beneath our feet. No one ever fertilizes our National Forests! So composting at Lake Naomi – Timber Trails began some years ago as collaboration between the Club’s Chef and myself. Our goal was to use the veggie waste to make compost that would be used to improve the soil in our fl ower beds and herb garden. It has grown into a year round operation which includes, not only all Club facility waste, but also 3 to 5 hundred pounds of vegetable waste a week (which used to go to the landfi ll) from Aharts Market in Blakeslee. We have two compost piles and a worm bin (vermin-compost) that are helping us add life to our soil. What started as a sim-ple means of improving our soil has grown into an integral part of the Club’s operations. The compost program now consists of an actively aerated compost tea brewer, enabling us to suspend the life in the compost (bacteria, fungi, nematodes, etc.) in water, and spray the ball fi elds at the Community Center, the turf on the golf course, and yes, our fl ower beds. During the 24 hour brewing cycle, we can add molasses to feed bacteria, fi sh emulsion and seaweed extract to feed the fungi, creating our own blend of specifi c tea, to supply the different needs of the different plants. A digital camera on our microscope plugs into the computer, helping to identify the life in, and not in, our soils. Our goals are to continue learning to identify and using a spread sheet, we will be able to monitor, and keep track

of our progress. Pat Simonik, Maintenance Department.Share the Road

Walking and bike riding are two of the more popular activities that people do in Lake Naomi – Timber Trails. Although these activities can be very safe, extra caution should be used. Tobyhanna Township has installed an ex-tensive storm water management system in Lake Naomi. This system includes many roadside trenches and water detention areas. PLEASE BE EXTRA CAREFUL WHEN WALKING OR BIKING!

The LN-TT Ranger Staff would like everyone to follow these safety tips.1. When walking always walk on the left side of the road.2. Bikes ride on the right side of the road, with traffi c.3. Walkers, walk in single fi le when traffi c approaches.4. Bike riders should always wear helmets. State law requires children 12 and under to wear a helmet. The Rangers strongly recommend that all bike riders wear a helmet.5. Most important: all drivers should slow down – the speed limit is 25 mph for all roads. Drive as if the lives of your children or grandchildren depend on it.

Thank-You * On June 4, 2014 the Mazeffa’s lost their home in Timber Trails to a fi re.Dear Friends and Neighbors,It has been said that the most important things in life are not things. We have just discovered the truth of that. We have no things right now but the out-

pouring from so many people, of love, comfort, support, offers of food, clothing and shelter is overwhelming.

While this has been a terrifying and most inconvenient experience, we cannot begin to thank the Lake Naomi-Timber Trails Rangers and Staff for the quick response to our crisis, our needs, their dedicated spirit and helpfulness in every way. Food and lodging was available to us instantly. The staff at the Mountaintop Lodge could not be nicer and more helpful, but we already knew that.

Our immediate friends and neighbors that provided us with clothes, comfort and stood with us watching the devastation cannot be thanked enough.

To all those who have called and left messages at the Mountaintop Lodge, we thank-you for your concern and generosity.

There is a reason that Lake Naomi-Timber Trails is a platinum community. While we always appreciated our beautiful surround-ings and excellent facilities it is the people that make it so outstanding.

Thank-you from the bottom of our hearts. We are proud and grateful to be a part of Lake Naomi – Timber Trails.

Meet Me at the Lodge…The summer season is here and so are the guests!

Thank you to all our Members who have supported the Lodge so far whether it’s by coming into the Pastry Shop for a delectable treat or having your family and friends stay with us while in town. Please remember that if your family or friends book a room with us, you must give them your name and member num-ber for the Member Referral discount.

Have you had a chance to look at the event calendar for June yet? There are so many events planned at the Mountaintop Lodge that there is something for everyone.

If you or your children are into baking, why not try one of our cooking classes. For adults, we have Chef Don’s Baking Class on Thursday, June 19th, “Better for you Baking”. We will be making Black Bean Brownies and Zucchini Cupcakes with a Yogurt Butter-cream Frosting, and you will take home plenty of treats to share with your family. Sign-ups are required in advance and the cost is $22.00. For the younger bakers we have two different classes. Kids in the

Kitchen (any age) is Saturday, June 14th from 1:30-2:30 where each child will make Mon-key Bread Muffi ns (cost per child $10.00). Kids in the Kitchen: ABC’s of Cooking is for aspiring bakers aged 7 and up and they will be making Cherry Crisp and Apple Berry Salsa on Sunday, June 22nd from 3:00-4:30 (cost per child $15.00). Please call the Lodge at 570-646-6636 to sign up in advance for any of these classes.

If you like to be crafty, Poke-A-Nose will be doing a 16x20 stretched canvas painting of an Antique American Flag on Thursday, June 26th. This class is designed so that ANY-ONE can participate and go home with a completed project. We invite you to BYOB and your friends and come enjoy a fun night. This class is $35.00 which includes all materials and we do require sign-ups in advance.

Music is returning to the Lodge for summer as well. Each Friday night, starting the 20th, we will feature a different acoustic musician. June 20th CJT Duo will kick things off for us and on June 27th we will have Gary Dillon. Music plays from 7:00-9:00 PM and you can come and go as you please.

If movies are your thing, we are trying something new this year. “Movie on the Lawn”. Our hope is to make this into a relaxing Date Night for adults, come to the Lodge with your lawn chair or blanket, bring your own beverage or purchase something from the Coffee and Pastry Shop and enjoy an outdoor movie. We will be kicking this off at 9:00 PM on Monday, June 23rd with “The Great Outdoors” and Monday, June 30th will feature “Jaws”. Phew! Plenty to choose from…. Hope we will see you at the Lodge. Carolyn Keiper, Hospitality Manager

Why are Golf Maintenance and the Club Contractors permitted to mow grass before and after the “contractor hours” set by the Club and the Associ-ations?

The Club amenities are not subject to the residential deed restrictions and thus the architectural regula-tions. It is a case of something that benefi ts Club Members in mass ver-sus a project that benefi ts a single Club/Community Member. Thus the Club is not subject to the con-tractor hour limitations. Otherwise the Club would not be able to ser-vice the various facilities and have the facilities ready for Member use.

What are the pontoon boats I have seen on Lake Naomi?

The Club owns two pontoon boats. One is moored off of Club Beach and utilized by the Sailing Committee to organize and direct the sailing races. This pontoon boat is also utilized by Club Team Members to assist with the sailing instruction program. The second Club owned pontoon boat is stored at the Floating Marina located at the Administrative Offi ce and is powered by an electric motor. It is utilized by the Lakes Commit-tee for their fi shing instructional pro-gram as well as for the placement of fi sh habitat in the Lake.

I have seen motor boats on Lake Nao-mi. I thought they weren’t permitted?

The Club owns four Boston Whal-er Patrol Boats. At the height of the boating season, a maximum of three of the Safety Boats are in use. These are the only gasoline powered motor boats permitted on Lake Naomi.

I am a Basic Member. Why can’t I use the Community Center Pool in July and August?

The reasoning for the pool “black-out period” being announced right from the start of the discussion re-garding the proposed Community Center was based on fairness and fi nancial viability. While Basic Members pay the Capital Assess-ment for the Community Center which provides the right for them to utilize the Community Center for all of the year and the indoor pool at the Community Center for all but the 73 days prior to Labor Day, Basic Members are not paying the operating costs of the Community Center Pool during the blackout pe-riod. Those costs are paid by only those Members subscribing to the pool membership.
