The New Board Going Back in Time: Past Events
June Park Social @ Desert Breeze By: Ryan Lim
June 11th, 2011 was the date for Clark Key
Club’s end of the year park social held at Desert
Breeze Park. At the social, those who wore
appropriate shoes (aka not sandals) played a game
of capture the flag with a twist. What’s the twist?
Marshmallows. Marshmallows were added into the
game in that each member was given one
marshmallow and could throw it at the opposite
team. If hit, you’re “frozen” in that spot. For those
who didn’t wear appropriate shoes (aka about six
people including myself), we used the spare
marshmallows to roast and use in smores. Eventually,
the game came to an end and we shared our
smore-making knowledge. Our group picture.
Fireworks Booth By: Shannon Austria
We had another Kiwanis Fireworks
Booth event this summer. Our job was to help
Kiwanis members sell fireworks to raise
money. Our location was at Patrick and
Rainbow, and throughout the 4 days that we
worked, we had many sales! The only
downside was the heat! But the tent where
we stayed had a water-powered fan, which
was pretty cool! Some customers decided to
go big and buy some of the larger packs of
fireworks, while others just bought smaller
ones. The event was pretty fun, and it was a
great opportunity to bond with some of the
Kiwanis members!

General Meeting By: Carl Lai
July DCM By: Yuri Kim
The July DCM was held at UNLV this time around. I was a little late coming into
the meeting because I couldn’t find parking! However, when I came inside, I quickly
found a seat and listened to the three Lt.G’s, Steven Kim, Jarren Santos, and Aldrin
Santamaria present. They talked about what each of their divisions were planning to
do, and talked about the due dates of shirt designs for Fall Rally. We weren’t able to
cheer or be spirited as much, because of the UNLV student rooms around us.
Altogether it was a very informational meeting, and I saw other officers I knew from
other schools!
We had our first summer general meeting this past July 29th. It was the first that
Clark Key Club has had in a while. The turnout was pretty good, as more key clubbers
arrived than we had expected. We discussed some old business, as well as upcoming
plans for the new school year. We had a leadership activity that we unfortunately did
not have enough time for, but it was still somewhat educational. We had to assemble
into groups and were assigned different problems that we had to find a solution to.
After, we packed laundry detergent into little baggies as a service event for Street
Teens. It was a pretty good meeting, and we hope that future officers continue to
have summer meetings.

August DCM By: Markus Marquez
The August DCM was on August 19th
at Desert Breeze Park. I came a little early
to attend the Presidents’ Meeting, but our
President Brent Mayfield ended up
coming. After the meeting, our Lt. G
Steven Kim talked about future plans for
RTC and Fall Rally, as well as when the
freshman orientations of each school were
going to be. After all of the business, we
played ice breakers such as “Ride that
Pony” and “Baby, I Love You.” The DCM
was overall both information and fun, and
definitely prepared us for the upcoming
Key Club year.

Yard Sale By: Bryan Orden
We participated in a Yard Sale for
one of Miss Wong’s friends, Rochelle, on
August 20th. I arrived around 7am, and
helped Rochelle and her father set up their
garage. There were many cool vintage
items and great deals that were for sale.
Customers started arriving around 9am,
and by the time I left around 2pm, we had
sold a good amount of items. I had to help
myself and purchase a stuffed animal that
my friend also has, as well as an awesome
bag! It was a pretty fun event overall!

Freshman Orientation By: Ethan Nihipali
"Oh wow! This booth looks amazing, and everyone seems so nice! I want to join Key
Club this year!" says Alexis Acob, a new freshman enrolled into Clark. On August 23rd, Key
Club set up a booth at Clark's freshman orientation for new students to observe and gain
interest. Our club's goal was to attract many people to the booth and persuade them into
joining one of the most amazing clubs Clark has to offer, so in order to attract these
freshmen to the Key Club booth, I grabbed a friend along with some Key Club flyers and
hunted down the freshest meat in the school. Alex Dumitru (the friend I brought along) and I
ran from hallway to hallway, handing out flyers to random kids, and directing them to the
Key Club booth in the cafeteria. Many of these new faces looked at us as if we were crazy
but in the end, almost of all actually checked out the booth.
"So what do you think of most of the clubs here?" I asked a random freshman.
"Most of the booths here at orientation didn't really appeal to me, and the people standing
around them scared me a bit, but the Key Club booth, not to offend any other clubs, was
probably the most attracting one here. I was the first one to sign up too!"
I think Key Club is going to have a new group of dedicated members this year.
Ice Skating Social By: Winnie Ng
One of my favorite events to attend each
summer before school starts is the ice
skating social. It's a good time for us to
meet new people and welcome the
incoming freshman. It's also nice to be out
of this SUPER HOT Vegas heat. Hopefully,
the incoming freshman felt welcomed
and had just as much fun as I did. The best
part was having everyone look at us as we
were cheering. But hey, no club is as
spirited and fun as Clark Key club. Carl, Maroun, Winnie, and Markus pose on
the ice.

Ice Skating Social By: Celine Endy
On August 26, 2011, I attended the Key Club Ice Skating Social at the Las Vegas Ice
Center from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm. This social was truly exciting. I was so pleased to see
all of incoming freshman key clubbers. Although I fell a couple of times, I had a blast.
Ice skating is one of my favorite hobbies. My favorite part is the feeling of the cool
breeze on my face as I skate faster. Every time I go ice skating, I take my close friend
Connie S. On that day, I introduced her to all of the key clubbers I knew. She showed
me Markus and I was able to meet him. I mostly hung out with the freshmen to get to
know them. I was able to talk to friends that I have not seen for a while like Maroon and
Winnie. Going to this social made me realize how much I miss school. It was a strange
feeling of missing school because I did not want school to start. After the social, school
was going to come by sooner than I thought.

Conclusion
President’s Message
Hello Key Club!
Did you have a great summer?! xD This summer we had a variety of events and
socials. It’s been fantastic. I hope you get settled in and back in the school rhythm
soon.
Anyway, welcome back old members and welcome to all of you who are new
this year. Key Club is an amazing experience and I think all of you will enjoy yourselves.
This year we will be expanding our service projects and doing more events this year. I’m
so happy to meet all of you new freshman and I hope that you stay dedicated to this
amazing club for all four years of high school. Key Club has not only truly changed my
life, but the lives of members and the people who we serve. It’s an amazing
experience and there is so much to do throughout the year. Your officers have worked
tirelessly this summer to ensure that you have a great experience.
The year will be filled with car washes, festivals, blood drives, rallies, spirit sessions,
divisional meetings, and so much more.
If you have any questions about Key Club please fell free to ask. Good luck!
