Summary Doctor to the barrios is a book pride of Filipinos that is bent by our former DOH secretary Dr. Juan Flavier who expanded the advancement of health care delivery most especially and specifically in rural areas. Dr. Flavier with his health care team had stayed with those people living in countryside to scrutinize and considering the inhibiting factor that limits the people to attain a favorable health. The focal point of the book narrated by Dr. Flavier was the common problem encountered by the folks in the barrio together with some rural places here in the Philippines and usual obstructions for health are; low wages, lack of facilities and medical supply, means on how to elevate the health problems of the people as well as how a health worker would respond to it and the uncomfortable lodgings at the municipal clinic or health sttions. The interaction between the health care team and the folks, the health cultures like superstitious beliefs which barrios people had already adapted to and the better health orientation for them to follow. The unfolding of the Philippine health setting through his book “Doctor to the Barrios” which was done by Dr. Juan Flavier along with Philippine Rural Reconstitution Movement have created awareness and opened on the current condition health problem where folks living in rural area are suffering and facing, furthermore together with all the health care provider he generated guiding principles educed from this phrase (“Go to the people, live among them, learn from them, serve them, plan with them, start with what they know, build on what they have, not piecemeal but integrated approach, not showcase but pattern, not relief but release, mass education through mass participation, learn by doing, teach by showing”).

I. Summary

The common physical features of book that anyone would find time

and interest to read it were all compacted to the book made by Dr.

Juan Flavier though it focuses on how to improve community

development the fragments used in the book can thoroughly catch the

attention of the readers whether they are health practitioners or not

and others who are aspiring to become one (health care provider). The

book is entirely a good detail of Dr. Flavier’s own experiences that

would not depart the readers to tedious manner. Plain words were

used in the book to explicit the idea more than enough to define the

development of the community which is precisely realistic.

III. Analysis

Substantive Community Problem

Syntactically the entity of the book converged around the scheme of

community problems specifically in rural areas. The book also

represents the needs and attention of the community; health care

delivery system, health regulation and yield production for folk’s

primary income.

The book had featured, created tactics and strategies in making better

and organizing a community mainly one of the prime notion in doing

so, is that program must be implemented thus, Doc. Flavier had listed

some of the significant point details needed to pursue the project like;

simplicity which lay at somebody’s understanding, practicability means

essential necessity for health and living of people in the community

hence it follows with the economical aspects relating to the capacity of

the people to implement the plan.
