TOPIC 2 LEVELLING Introduction, principle, instruments, terms, working procedures, booking, reduction, checking, adjustment and plotting. TOPIC 3 COMPASS SURVEY Introduction, principle, instruments, terms, working procedures, booking, bearing adjustment, plotting, Bowditch’s Rule adjustment and sources of error. TOPIC 4 THEODOLITE AND ITS USAGE Introduction, principle, terms, instruments, components and the functions, temporary adjustment, permanent adjustment, horizontal and vertical angle reading, working procedures, booking and corrections. TOPIC 5 TRAVERSE SURVEY Traverse, working procedures, bearing observation, distance measurement, booking, calculation, corrections, adjustment, coordinates calculation, areas and plotting. COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:- 1. Describe briefly types of surveying 2. Explain correctly the basics and methods of measuring distance, bearing and angle. 3. Calculate correctly the differences in height, bearing, angles and coordinates for surveying stations and area of a traverse. 4. Work collaboratively in groups to complete the engineering survey work. 5. Conduct engineering survey work that yields valid results. ASSESSMENT 1. Continuous Assessment (CA) - 50% 2.
