Definitions

S-wave-is a seismic body wave that shakes the ground back and forth perpendicular to the direction the wave is moving.

P-wave-is a seismic body wave that shakes the ground back and forth in the same and opposite direction the wave is moving.

L-wave- seismic waves that travels along the surface or right below the surface.

Focus-is the point in the earth where an earthquake begins.

Richter Scale-is the scale to measure an earthquakes magnitude.
