S-wave-is a seismic body wave that shakes the ground back and forth perpendicular to the direction the wave is moving.

P-wave-is a seismic body wave that shakes the ground back and forth in the same and opposite direction the wave is moving.

L-wave- seismic waves that travels along the surface or right below the surface.

Focus-is the point in the earth where an earthquake begins.

Richter Scale-is the scale to measure an earthquakes magnitude.

The magnitude of this earthquake was 7.9. This earthquake caused over 730 aftershocks. Starting as soon as 11 minuets after the original earthquake. It was caused by a strike-slip fault. This earthquake caused 103 deaths. Compared to other major earthquakes in 2000 it is relatively large. The largest one in 2000 was an 8.0 on the Richter scale.
