MONSEY SIMCHAT BEIT HASHOEVA
Although the night was damp, the ruach soared. Thursdaynight, the third day of Chol Hamoed 5777, TABC held itsannual Simchat Beit HaShoeva in Dr. Berman's sukkah.Forty-five students and alumni, good food, zmirot, anddivrei Torah packed the sukkah.Senior Shai Gutfreund was the first speaker. He spoke of thevalue of earning a mitzvah via a Chasidisha Moshel. Docfollowed with a set of signature stories connecting themitzvah of sukkah with Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
At this time the pizzas were delivered and a break wastaken for eating and zmirot.
Doc's son-in-law, Rabbi Etziony (father of Yisroel Meir - alsoin attendance) from the Radin Kollel, told a story of theChofetz Chaim. He connected the temporal character of thisworld with that of the sukkah we were sitting in. Our verylack of permanence encourages us to excel.Rabbi Grossman, the Morah D'asrah of the TABC Monseycommunity, batted cleanup. Rabbi Grossman read throughand explained passages in Gemara Sukkah. His take homemessage was that any Jew who "walks the walk and talks thetalk" will go through life with legitimate and lasting simcha.

ISRAEL ALUMNI REUNION WITHCOACH BOBBY KAPLAN
Wow! What a super turn out!
The TABC Sukkot reunion in Israel has really become atradition! Coach Bobby Kaplan, Athletic Director, has beenorganizing a brunch reunion during Sukkot time for over adecade now. Every Hoshana Rabba, Bobby gets togetherwith all TABC alumni who are spending the year learning inEretz Yisrael. "I can't believe it's eleven years already," saidCoach Kaplan "Our yearly reunion of alumni participantskeeps growing and recently current TABC students and theirfamilies have been joining us as well."
What better place to meet on Chol Hamoed Sukkot than onBen Yehuda Street in Yerushalayim at the famous Big ApplePizza? Sixty-one alumni attended this year for a few hoursof friendship, Torah thoughts, and stories of their TABCexperiences.
Bobby, who travels to Israel each year to see hisgrandchildren, realized that during the Chagim, the TABCalumni are first acclimating to their new programs and itwasn't enough to just randomly bump into them. So Bobbyformalized their reunion into a Sukkot Chol Hamoed TABChappening. It's an opportune time to re-bond with thealumni and help with their transition and has served as animportant springboard for their success in spending theiryear of growing and learning in Eretz Yisrael!
programs and eventsthroughout the year.

Torah and Science UpdateThe Torah and Scienceelective watched andpassionately debated thenow famous debatebetween Rabbi JonathanSachs and Professor RichardDawkins. Rabbi Sachspresents key ideasregarding what he terms the"great partnership" betweenTorah and Science. Comparisons were drawnbetween this debate and the Ramban's classic debate withPablo Christiani. Vigorous debate ensued regarding
permitted/appropriate allegorization of stories in Tanach, especially the story of Adam and Chavah in Gan Eden. Viewing the recording of the riveting debate is highlyrecommended. It may be accessed here.
