Teaching is more engaging: During the session, for the demonstration about lifting of equipments at work site

the learners ask different questions related to lifting of equipments& providing them the answers and procedures

to follow to consolidate learning and confirm the learning outcomes have been achieved. During the demonstration

of accessories used in lifting equipments, the learners had difficulty in modeling i.e., the process of how to hold and

use sling, ropes etc. The learners initially felt it very difficult to understand the principles to follow i.e., basics. Using

the procedure & guidance which helped them to understand and gather information on safe usage of l ifting

machines, sling etc. The procedure & guidance helped the learners to become more independent & confident in

using lifting machines and accessriesthrough which I was able to transfer knowledge and skill to the learners.

Learning needs are met: It was important in teaching session the learning approach should be encourage active &

collaborative learning to provide plenty of opportunities to the learners. During the training session the video

which was played to show the associated hazards related to improper use and holding of equipments during

lifting. Demonstrating the right way to hold equipmentswhile lifting it. During demonstration the learners were

having difficulty in how a daily inspection of Lifting machines will be conducted before using it. To benefit the

learners I provided a checklist which could be used for daily safety inspection of Lifting machines & also made them

to carry out the inspection themselves to consolidate their learning & to provide constructive solution as per

their required. This created a positive and supportive learning environment in the training session.

Learning outcomes are met: To motivate and promote participation of all the learners for inclusive teaching and

learning. I conducted workshop to develop practical skills of the learners which was more cognitive based skills

supported by self study, using a checklist I made sure that each learner had individual learning plan for all the

learners so they could conduct the inspection and understand the hazards with appropriate control measures,

explained hazards associated with Lifting of equipments if they are not being operated according to standard

procedure following hazards may occur, crushing, buried, electrocution etc.

even damaged electrical codes of Lifting machines also hazard it might lead slip, trip and fall. I advised to

learners proper inspection and maintenance procedure have a look every day before use, It should not be

altered or modified, ensure the covers or guards are in place, use it after having training to use that machine, I

should be monthly inspected thoroughly and color coding system should be applied to ensure it is safe to use I gave all the learners a separate checklist to ensure all the learners to go through the inspection individually

and assist the learners who found some difficulty during inspection which was assisted by me so that they can

    resume independent work in future.

    2. Review the effectiveness of teaching and learning approaches, resources and assessment methods and

how these meet the needs of your learners?

In four different ways teaching & learning approaches engaged & motivated the learners, stimulated their interest

& promoted participation during use of Portable Power Tools session. They are as follows.

    case studies

Case studies: In this approach, discuss about an issue in depth and heip to introduce real situations into the class

roomabout lifting of equipments. Before the discussion the case study is written carefully and contains sufficient

details, that is it contain essential, superfluous and if a appropriate, ambigious information to stimulate analysis

and discussion. This type of approaches helps the leaners to draw on prior knowledge and to link this to new

ideas on Lifting of equipments. Then the learners allowed into group discussion about case study, I supported the

learners as & when required. For getting the feedback on discussion, I instructed the learners to make short

presentation on the key points draw during the group discussion on lifting of equipments. During the end of

the presentation, I concluded the activity by reinforcing the key points on lifting of equipments.

Modelling: This approach is close to demonstrating a skill onLifting of equipments, but the decision-making process

is shared more explicitly with the learners. In the session, demonstration helps the learners how to something fo

e.g. demonstration about the use of ropes or web belts to secure slinging arrangements while lifting equipments

helps how the ropes or web belts are used, but modelling helped the learners to understand additionally, why

something is being done for e.g.why we should use ropesin a proper manner while operating it. Modelling helped

the learners to understand the underlying principles, which in turn will lead them to become more independent

learners. This will help the leaners to transfer their knowledge and skills to other contexts.

Demonstration: During the session, I need to ensure that a demonstration about the use of sling and sling angle while

lifting a equipment, does not simply become a lecture with visual aids. I selected a place for the demonstration

so that all the learners can see clearly the demonstration about the use of sling. During the demonstration,

passed the varioustypes of slings among the learners. To make the learners engage & active thru the session,

planned different way of approaches like by asking questions, or asking them how to use slings for different

equipments or predict the next step. During the demonstration, I explained them the procedure to use the sling

properly while lifting a equipment. After the completion of demonstration, I instructed the learners to practice

the skill about the usage of sling in my presence. Feedback collected from the learners after the completion of

demonstration, to know whether they are carrying out the task correctly or if adjustments need to be made.

Visits: In the session, while visiting a construction area has developed the learners theory & practical session on

properly using of lifting machines and accessories. After the visit, learners can use his knowledge to apply learning

to real-life settings. We have decided which visit will beneficially help the learners. I explained the purpose ofthe visit to all the learners, so that they can prepare themselves accordingly for work site. During the visit in a

construction site, we ensured that health & safety requirements are met, institutional guidelines on prope

procedure of lifting equipmentsare followed & host is aware of the purpose of the visit & characteristics of the

learners. During the visit, I encouraged the learners by completing the checklists, taking notes or photographs or

gather information. After the visit, I planned several activities for leaners related to site visit to provide consoli-

dated leaning on proper use of portable power tools.

Resources: During the session, suitable resources selected for engaging the learners for the effectiveness of

teaching & learning. The resources I choose, engaged the learners, meet the learners need and the safe practices

    that should be followed.

    ICT,including Power pointand internet

o This is one of the teaching & learning approaches. In which the learners provide power point

presentation on key points drawn from the discussion on proper use of lifting machines.

oThe awareness, procedure to use hazrdness etc of lifting the equipments are represented by

    photographs, pictures or diagram.

Assessment: As a part of progressing, including what is going well and what needs improvement & to achieve it, I

conducted the following suitable assessment methods,

Clarifying understanding and sharing learning intensions

Activating learners as learning resources from one another

    3.

Explain how you provide opportunities for learners to develop their English, mathematics and ICT skills.

Listening, speaking, reading & writing, ICT, numeracy is the functional skills to be embedded into the training

    session.

Speaking skills: In the beginning of the session I had discussion with the learners share their views and through

effective communication we are able to assess their knowledge and skill in lifting equipments. After the

explanations on the hazards on lifting equipments, relevant questions on the subject promoted participation and acheck to the language skill.

Numeracy: Learners are given opportunity to do risk assessment practically. They are given practice to give the

right rating for the risk factor while observing operation of portable power tools. The rating they gave for the

hazards gives a check to numeracy.

ICT Skill: A video game had been shared with each team in the training session in which they had to click the right

pictures for lifting equipments. Learners enjoyed the training session and showed great involvement towards the

    session.

    4.

Explain how you engage and motivate leaners and promote and maintain an inclusive teaching andlearning environment?

Engaging and motivating the learners to promote inclusive teaching: to engage and motivate learners it was

important to stimulate their interest and promote participation, Differentiation to vary approach, according to

leaners needs. Embedding functional skills that allow the learners to use English, maths, information and

    communication technology.

Assessment for learning: To make sure knowledge and understanding is taking place, I asked various questions at

various stages to confirm the initial knowledge and level of knowledge and skills, checking through-out the session

that effective learning is taking place, drawing in the individual learner and to improve. I re-phrased the questions

when I felt necessary and considering whether to use open or closed end questions depending on the type of

    answers required.

Multi-Sensory Learning: To know their responsibilities during the work course, and developing the skill, of decision

making such as developing and implementing of safe system of work in the workplace carrying out risk assessmen

and inspection at various levels and need of monitoring and supervision required for any work or process in the

workplace. Multi-sensory learning can help leaners to understand underlying principles, which in return will lead

them to become more independent learners who will be able to transfer their knowledge and skills to other

    context.

I tried to maintain a good eye contact with all the learners. To promote participation during the training session of

lifting equipments , I used questioning throughout the training session to ensure all the learners are able to

remove barriers to full participation by all learners & also responding to their questioning which they asked during

the session. During the session of lifting equipments, I addressed the learners by their name, so that I recognise

them as individuals with the group. Also I acknowledged the learners prior knowledge & experience during the

session, which was also an effective method of engaging and meeting all learning needs with positive outcomes.

Verbal communication: to promote participation during the training session, I used questioning & sharing the

information about the hazards related with lifting of equipments & what control measures should be followed as

    remedial measures.

Non-Verbal communication: during the training session of the lifting equipments, I engaged the all leaners thru

proper eye contact & all the learners were interested to wear formal dress as rules to be followed. During the

session, learners participated positively by communication indicating thumps up or gestures to motivate and

applaud the learners to create a positive environment in the teaching session.

Written words images: as an effective method to make the learners, I used a power point presentation to

understand the topic more effectively. I used handouts on lifting machines, accessories etc & ensured that text

is clearly presented and easy to follow to all the learners.

    5.

Outline how you can give constructive feedback to your learners?

Constructive feedback: Conducting the session with lifting equipments incident investigation, to which the

learners participated positively, as a non-verbal communication indicating thumps up or gestures to motivate and

applaud the learners to create a positive environment in the teaching session. During the question session about

the control measures on portable power tools, verbally communicated by saying well-done, or very good to the

learners who answered and participated positively in the session.

As a written assessment listing the hazards and control measures, I gave the corrective method to write an answer

in hierarchy method for an effective answer. When the sequence had not been properly written, clear remarks arestated. To make the learning session more effective, I gave positive & constructive feedback on lifting equip

    ments.
