herdzik studio

Herdzik was quite a challenging small space studio. The space was redesigned to accommodate more storage space (closets) and a bedroom area. The bedroom is separated from the rest of the space by a curtain which tucks inside the closet when not needed. When the bedroom is open to the living room, the bed can be used as extra seating. The curtain will be installed at a later stage per the client’s request. New and fun materials like resin and panelite were experimented. Also space saver furniture pieces were used; a flou twin bed folds into double twin bed and the dining table unfolds to a larger size. Note: images are from construction site

lispenard loft

The 1400 sqft loft had a 1 bath, 1 bedroom, poor lighting and inefficient space layout. The client wanted to enlarge the size of the bedroom and the existing bathroom, add a guest bathroom and enlarge the kitchen without decreasing the size of the living space. He liked the ‘Ernest Hemingway’ old vintage look but with a modern warm feel. The challenge was to fit the new spacial program without decreasing the size of the existing spaces and provide the old vintage look but yet modern and elegant with a tight budget and schedule

This was another challenging loft where light and space is an issue. The ex-isting dining area was changed into a living room with a new gas fire place and a study room. The existing study room and part of the existing living room was changed into 2 bedrooms with a walk in closet in between. The existing living room was changed into a dining room and a guest bath-room was added to the space. The design emphasized the steel columns in the middle of the loft which ended with a fire place at the living space, hence the contrast between the existing rough dark steel and the new white smooth walls. Bright and happy colours were a major target in the design. The client being a photographer, a window was installed at the new wall dividing the new living room from the rest of the space in order to ensure maximum entrance of natural light

The existing lobby and hallways of the 31 storey tower had extremely poor lighting, aesthetics and was out of date. The focus was to provide maximum lighting possible and to make the long hallways more interest-ing, aesthetically pleasing and modern but timeless. New materials were proposed such as translucent ceiling, which provides more light at less initial and maintenance cost than conventional ceilings. The walls where covered with durable wall paper installed on removable wall panels to allow maintenance of utilities behind it and ease of replacement of dam-aged portions of the wall paper. Like most projects, budget was tight.

guy and gallard cafe

Guy and gallard is a chain cafe in NYC. All the branches share one common theme; fun and dynamic place for New Yorkers to grab a bite while on the run. The cafe was designed per its standard functions. Lively and dynamic materials and art work were chosen to fit the theme. A mezzanine was added with seating area to maximize space usage.
